What phones do work with N800 OS2008?

Can you please post what phones you know DO work with the N800 and OS2008 without having to hack anything (I have a phone that does not work cos it is PAN not DUN and just bought it so am a bit miffed!).

Thanks in advance..

Sony Ericsson W880i works fine for internet Access, file browsing and phonelink (gnokii)

But I think a Wiki page would be more appropriate ..

Nokia E61 working fine here on 3g for internet access, bluetooth filebrowsing (not tested with gnokii).

BTW - if you started this thread it would be nice that you would edit it as a list in your first post as people post their phones - maybe even become a sticky (even more, this would be better of in the wiki !)

Re: What phones do work with N800 OS2008?

I do not understand what "wiki wiki wiki" means or "I think a Wiki page would be more appropriate" means. I have visited Wikipedia and know it is an online information or dictionary thing but what are you guys asking me to do?

I have already visited the page mentioned by Scarflash but am not sure it is correct. I have a k800i and I purchased it after much research and after reading the list you mention only to find I cannot get it to work with the N800 (very sad as have now wasted money). I am since told (via another thread (in ternettablettalk) that this is because the phone is not Dun but is PAN and PAN is not supported by the N800 - but the list says DUN=yes. So I am confused. I found a tech doc for the k800i and it says it is PAN.

Hence I have asked for people to help me by listing phones that DO work... then I do not have to rely on a particular list that does not explain whether it is correct or how the data came to be. What I need to know is what phones definitely work for you.

What is "friggin" by the way (and no strange answers please)?

Thank you very much.

Re: What phones do work with N800 OS2008?

frigging - to make something work by changing settings, etc...

the k800, like most sony phones, supports dun, as well as pan. i've confirmed that from the sony whitepaper at http://developer.sonyericsson.com

I'll see if we've got one in work on monday to test

what is the behaviour you ae experiencing?
what network are you connecting to?
can you browse through the phone?

Some operators love putting their own firmware on phones. Yes, se's default firmware may support dun. But if its a custom one, all bets are off :(

Re: What phones do work with N800 OS2008?

It's kind of silly to ask "which phones work?" without knowing what carrier you're on. It seems like most [new] phones on Verizon support DUN or with a simple edit using QPST.

Re: What phones do work with N800 OS2008?

No need... I finally made it!

After all that it was something simple. When I used the phone Wizard it set up my connection with "Internet" as the APN. I just changed that to pp.vodafone.co.uk (after a chance remark by a Vodafone customer service chap) and it now works!

Oh the joy...

How the bloomin eck would the average person know such things...

Thanks all for trying to help

Re: What phones do work with N800 OS2008?

goldspoon - I had a similiar problem here in Denmark.

The automatic setup in N800 set the "access point name" to WAP. This enables web access (port 80), but I couldn't connect to Google imap (port 993).

When I changed the access point name to internet - everything went through....

My Nokia 9300 works very well with my N800. Under Diablo the automated set-up for AT&T worked first time!

I use a Treo 700p on Verizon with USBModem installed on the Treo. I have a the "unlimited" (5gig/mo) data plan, but no "tether" plan. My N800 has connected flawlessly on OS2007, chinook and diablo. I also use Gizmo on both devices (via WiFi on the N800).

My main use of this arrangement is using Maemo Mapper with my Earthmate BT-20 GPS. I also used this setup the other day to report that my electrical power was out (the Georgia Power outage report page won't work on the Treo's Blazer browser... some stupid, buggy JavaScript!)

My new Treo 755p also works great; I'm on Sprint's employee recommendation plan, but unfortunately the $30 a month SERO plan is said to be dead.

But it's not dead for those of us who signed up.

Anyone ever get a Blackberry 8830 on Verizon working? I gave up a while back and got rid of tethering. I want to try again but only if something has changed

How were you able to get your 755p working? I haven't been able to get mine to cooperate with my n800 since upgrading to Diablo.

I'd been using the Shadowmite BT DUN hack since almost the beginning, but I also have USBModem and neither seems to work. In either case, I get the connection, but then my n800 immediately reports "Internet Connection Failed." Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!

Re: What phones do work with N800 OS2008?

Exactly what I experienced. A brief connection, then an immediate bye-bye.. I also uploaded to OS2008, but prior to the upload, no problem.. Let's hope that this will be remedied.. the bluetooth connection was extremely handy and i've been playing with all of the variables for an hour, and still nada..my thanks to 'sparkling' with his suggestions and you about mentioning the possible Diablo infection..Don

I have a Nokia N95 which works in a limited way, i.e. it loses the connectiom every 5-10 mins. Which is a real pain, i bought the N95 to use with N800 just for internet, but find myself having to use just the N95 - kinda misses the point.

Re: What phones do work with N800 OS2008?

I didn't try anything, my Treo 755p just worked. The user name <username> field is replaced by the name Sprint gave you and which is available on the Phone Info screen. The password is the same as the code you used in pairing, I think. I had some trouble but it just started working without any particular comprehension on my part.

However, I just switched to the Centro, and had the problems mentioned elsewhere. And the solution was to install USBModem, as mentioned above. USBModem is available for a free trial.

In Europe (or in most European countries) we can use ANY phone with any carrier. I never bought my phone from my Carrier (I buy my phones on amazon).

N800 and N95 or N76 work well togheter.

I had the same problem before updating to the lastest SW version on my N95 (21.0.016 in europe). Now it works fine.

Ok, I'll give it a try, but I think my N95 is running 21.0.016 E already, maybe just reinstall it.

Re: What phones do work with N800 OS2008?

I just got an N800 yesterday and it works very well with my Blackberry 8130. Sprint told me I would need to go through a complicated process of setting up a connection and whatnot. Not so. In fact, I just let the N800 set up a connection...it did everything seamlessly, and it worked the first time.
