N810 is boring with diablo

With few applications available with the release of the new Diablo update for N810, my device sucks. When i thought the update would include better im application that would allow me to communicate with my friends from other networks... without PIDGIN your N810 sucks!

A lot of applications you have installed from Maemo will not work!

Dont update yours! Boring device with the new diablo... period!

Please, write the name for these not working applications. Period.

PLEASE, IF A PACKAGE ISN'T EXTRAS AN YOU LIKE IT, FORCE TO THE DEVELOPER TO UPLOAD IT THERE. It's the best way of which the developers take seriously this.
Send a message to her:

Did i say that the applications i installed from maemo are EXTRAS by default? Maybe your happy with your device out of the box. Me, i want some applications... IM(instant messaging) across networks will make my N810 fun to use.

Re: N810 is boring with diablo

I understand your concern however this is normal for a new OS. Give it some time, or help the situation. You can add old Chinook repositories, or keep using Chinook.

Also, in any case if you'd like to use the ICQ protocol on Pidgin you'll have to install version 2.4.3 of Pidgin. No matter what OS you're running.

Have you installed the rtcomm update???
Have you added the maemo extras chinook repository???

Add a new catalogue in program manager:

Catalog name: maemo Extras chinook
Web address: http://repository.maemo.org/extras/
Distrbution: chinook
Components: free non-free

then install the rtcomm update from this site:

http://rtcomm.garage.maemo.org/

with chinook extras all the other progams from chinook should work, too.
canola2 for example...

Bahh. Really, I am not installing only packages from maemo extras. I am developing too applications and sometimes my device is too unstable.

The topic is, if all (ALL) applications were in maemo extras repository, I only would need ONE repository in the application manager. I wouldn't need search for other repositories in places like gronmayer.

Re: N810 is boring with diablo

There are two really stupidly simple answers here.

Add Chinook Extras to your Application catalog as mentioned above, and add the Collabora repo from http://www.gronmayer.com/it.

Chinook Extras will serve as a stop-gap until Diablo Extras gets up to speed in a few weeks, and the Collabora repository has the telepathy plugins to allow you to use more services with rtcomm.

Also, calm down. ;)

Re: N810 is boring with diablo

Then just wait, yerga.

These problems become far less by time due to autobuilder.

I'm glad this thread will speed things up... i hope.
Any more comments, help and suggestions?

Thanks. Peace bro! And not all of us here are developers, im just a consumer who views installable apps in my app manager.

What about Python2.5-runtime? Even apt-get -f will not install this because of version conflicts...

Apps like "Mytube" and "UK Media Player" will not run without this package.

EDIT: I found that the "Mytube" click to install link was broken. Go here >> http://mytube.garage.maemo.org/repos/ then click here >> mytube.install

Also, apps like "emelFM2" have usability issues for whatever reason. < It installs and runs fine but, can't view or edit files.
Without the ability to easily tweak some files and the loss of of a few "comfort" apps does indeed make "Diablo" boring.

I feel your pain, paranaque. :)

However, give it a few weeks and the community will straighten it out. It always does.

I have pidgin, mplayer, abiword, gnumeric, claws-mail, xmame, etc... running on Diablo... and the only problem i've noticed so far is that Canola2 doesn't seem to have any fonts (or something along those lines... all dialogs, buttons, etc... are missing text).

On one hand, I'm curious if I've done a _bad thing_ installing legacy apps, but so far the only thing I'm mourning is a usable Canola2.

With ALL these posts, so many of them, I sometimes wonder whether there is two different diablo!

I humbly disagree. I am using emelfm2 every hours for my pet projects/prog development, installation, view files without disturbing/saving files. Everyday every seconds before and after diablo. I hope I can help you with your problems. Did you restore or did you start from scratch? I never trust restore. I know, one button takes care of all, yup right.

Ugh, please don't do that. If you must, keep it to yourself so you don't put the idea into other people's head's. :\

Too bad the Maemo crowd can't create a site that automatically sets up the recommended repositories with the ease of the gronmayer site.

Re: N810 is boring with diablo

I did that after upgrade and all is well except python

the wiki list referred to would then be somewhat incorrect as a lot of those listed either work or appear in app manager.

boring with N810? hardly.

OK, here it is.

Install this!

That's the sum total of all repositories a new user should install on their tablet. Everything else should only be used on a case-by-case basis.

The reason the Maemo crowd wont create a site like that is because anything that encourages use of 3rd-party repositories is a bad thing. :)

Seriously, please don't recommend this step to people. As one of the people most likely to have to help pick up the pieces for new users who get themselves into trouble doing this, I would really appreciate it. :)

Well... I just did a reflash and found that 97% of my incompatibility problems were because I had "Extras-devel" repository enabled on my back-up and "Extras" Chinook was not.

A lot of apps went to the development repository for packages and that led to incompatibilities down the road.

However with the new flash, I am still seeing problems with emelfm2. When I hit the "view" or "edit" icons (@ root BTW), emel crashes hard.
Am I forgetting to enable something??

Yeah, all I did was a complete backup under Chinook, and a restore under Diablo, no problems whatsoever...

I always add the repo and pick the prog from app manager. I have no problem in using emelfm2 from N810 or N800. The post right before this use restore and said he has NO problem either. In general, I avoid using restore. I think it is good practice that once in awhile do a clean install of progs make a better house keeping.
If you continue to experience problem, maybe you will have to choose either of the method in installation. I am sure you will be fine, :) buddy,

Ok, I did a reflash of Diablo, and the only tweaks I made to the repositories were adding 'chinook' to the maemo Extras catalog, and adding the Claws Mail repository, also with the chinook distribution :D

Pidgin 2.4.3 was a nice update, and claws mail 3.5.0, mplayer, and openssh are enough additions for now.

BTW, where's the active Microb browser development happening, for the sake of filing bug reports? http://browser.garage.maemo.org/ and https://garage.maemo.org/projects/browser don't seem to be very active, and I'm guessing that's the wrong place.

Also the wrong way to go about it. ;) You want to add Chinook Extras as a DUPLICATE of Diablo Extras, not replace it with it.
