nokia 770 does not boot :(
 

hello.
my nokia 770 is not booting correctly. after the NOKIA logo and sound it shows a white screen for 3-5 seconds and it restarts. it keeps doing this all the time. a month ago I tried to update the software but I couldn't make it.
Any help is really needed and appreciated.

If you are getting a sound then your are booting into the OS, are you getting the progress bar across the bottom?
To flash it you need the wizard here and you need the tablet in update mode(from off, hold down HOME key while turning on, you will see a USB icon on the top right of the screen when it is in update mode) then run the wizard.

What other files do I need to update the software? only the wizard?

If you use the wizard it will automatically select OS2006 and flash that to your tablet so the wizard is all you need to do that.

It's been a month I couldn't work with my 770
I really appreciate your responses.
one more thing. can I update the 770 to a 2007 or 2008 versions?
where can I get them?
if I download them will I have to use the same wizard and select them for updating?

Here is the page you can get the other firmware from. You will need your wifi MAC, it is behind your battery or in the about section of the control panel. I like the 2008 HE but the speaker is not very loud.

Yea any time you reflash you are overwriting everything, so you can download any 770 version from that site and flash it.
Over time you should look into booting off the card with the high speed kernel. I here that will make your 770 fly, I have not had time to do this since getting 08HE but I plan on trying this weekend.

how do you boot with high speed kernel?
I installed the 2008HE and my 770 freezes whatever application I try to run. browser, media player, everything.
any ideas? :rolleyes:

You probaly need some swap, check in the memory section of the control panel that the max swap is on. And for the high speed kernel check out Fanoush's page, but read carefully it is complicated, this is way I said over time.

well I do not know what you problem is exactly but this is not a high end computer. I do not know if you ever tried but with windows 9x you could compress the drive to have more space but slower. This how the tablets internal drive is, it has to decompress the stuff to use it, this takes lots of time/power. If you have a larger MMC i suggest you get all your stuff off of it and try to boot off MMC, it is faster and more stable.

To do this make sure you are not using it, even turn off the swap first.
It is really easy if you are doing it right, took me 4 tries (I was not reading the log errors). Check it out here.
