We need ARORA

Hi there,

Everything we need for our little Nokia toy is ARORA webkit browser.
It is 300kb deb file + libqt library. That's all. It is fast as hell !!!
Is anybody working on recompilation for MAEMO ?

Search for webkit? I doubt anyone's working on ARORA in particular, but pretty much any webkit browser should attain similar performance...

epiphany-webkit, for example, I believe works with Debian.

Woha ! That was fast.. Works ok also not as much of an improvement as arora is compared to firefox on my desktop. And some hildonization would be nice (Fullscreen button...)

But thanks!!

Download package to SD and install it from command line
dpkg -i <path to deb>/<package file>

Re: We need ARORA

The main problem is that Arora is QT instead of GTK, making it (currently) much harder to hildonize than, say, Midori or Tear.

Just as a dumb aside. Will the upcoming versions of Maemo actually use a webkit browser? If it's so much faster and memory friendly, it'd be silly to continue things as they are with the current browser, despite it being firefox based.

It's not so much memory friendly, it takes about the same amount of memory as MicroB.

I think microb is still on, but should be updated to a non-alpha Ff codebase, with much faster JS. My experience using Ff3 and Chromium shows no noticeable difference in speed, so I think we'll have two decent options. (This migration was planned for Diablo, but they ran out of time...)
