Re: removing diablo

Just wondering - why would one move back from Diablo? I'm sure I could search through lost of different posts, but if two people in this thread are doing it, I'd be curious to know. Just got an n800 (had a 770) and I've bumped to Diablo and find it very fast and works quite well.

Re: removing diablo

The new mail client lost a number of lesser features ( user certificates being one of them ) as well as being moderately buggy. The lack of a populated extras is causing problems for some as well. Give it another month or two and maybe it will be faster, stable, and have all the packages that chinook has.

all that plus -
map crashes on search (may be debian related)
canola text problem (workaround in place)

That about sums it up for me. Will probably downgrade til this all gets worked out.

Re: removing diablo

Canola text problem happened to you, because you're using a development repository. It will happen on whatever distribution and OS.

Re: removing diablo

Actually I was also considering to move back. The browser seemed to be slower than before, or is this just a gut feeling?

"Modest" mail was a step back. I finally trashed it and use claws-mail which works fine.

The gmail notifier still does not work here. No idea what it is, I reinstalled it, removed all settings, it still does not auto-update, only when I click it.

The RSS reader has a new bug introduced: When I use the PgUp/PgDown buttons ( to which my d-pad is mapped), it does not scroll but opens the search function. Arghhhhh!

These are the major issues I found. The apps I normally use are all there and I believe if you go back to Chinook you will get more and more problems with newer versions of apps. Better to be with the crowds.

Re: removing diablo

I don't understand why you'd remove it, short of the old mail app.

However, it sounds to me that you did a "restore" -- and that screwed up quite a few peoples tablets from what I understand. Have you tried flashing it, and not restoring?

thanks for clarifying that. It started when I upgraded. Wasn't a problem prior to the upgrade. Odd coincidence I guess. Again, thanks

no i can play my music from it.

i did do a backup the first time and it was alful all the apps failed and then the tablet rebooted and would not move past the nokia screen so i reflashed it with diablo again and backed up every thing but the apps, this worked but the browser would just crash also the same would be said for the email app. the camra when opened would not do anything, then when fliped over it would be upsided down.
the thing that worryed me the most was the heat of the battery.

after this i just reflashed it to RX-34_2008SE_2.2007.51-3 when i could not stand it anymore

Er, being able to READ from the card has nothing to do with the card being corrupted. But, hey, if you don't want my help I wont give it. :)

Re: removing diablo

Well I just went back to Chinook as Diablo would not work on my device. It would not boot after the flash and when it did it will reboot spontaneously from time to time. Also, when I have finally managed to clone the os to the mmc (unit hanging on me prevented me from completing the process in a reasonable time). The boot menu was corrupted with an additional entry to boot from mmc2 which had N/A next to it. I have tried evertyhing, rd-mode trick, reformatting both cards (and repartitioning again). Tried to reflash probably several times. It still does not work. After reflashing back to Chinook everything is fine again. Seriously I do not know what might the problem be but it either means that my n800 is faulty or there are some n800 devices with some unique characteristics which are not compatible with Diablo. Hard to say. And yes I have used the n800 flash

md5sums below

Code:

Any ideas guys ?

Re: removing diablo

I have just ONE issue of all of the mentioned above...

My N800 gets really hot. This has happened since I installed Diablo.

Anyone knows the reason? (nothing wrong with the hardware... I think)

Re: removing diablo

/me also reflashed chinook.
n810 with
fresh flash without restoring-#@*+...
issues: VERY short battery-runtime (with the warm back, too)
my internal card is NOT corrupted (http://tabletschool.blogspot.com/200...d-on-n810.html)
brower SEEMS to be slower (i donīt can prove it) but for sure it have more rendering-mistakes for example on this page...
iīve flashed diablo two times. first time with modest and then the second time without setting up modest. same problems.
reflashed chinook: no problems anymore...
so please anyone with working diablo on n810: be honest, is your battery-runtime the same as before with diablo? if so, then the mistake must be /me...
thanks

Re: removing diablo

Actually, I'm considering switching back to Chinook now, too. The browser does indeed seem slower. In fact, the whole OS seems to lag at times, as if the processor and other systems are waiting for the graphics to catch up. The situation with Python now has me afraid to update any Python apps, for fear of breaking Canola, which I can't get through the workday without. After all that, I was still willing to stick with Diablo until I discovered there's a bug in Notes that won't allow it to save blank lines in a .note.html file. That's really the last straw, as I use Notes a lot. I had really high hopes for this release, including the fact that if there were problems they could be fixed without a complete reflash, but when the apps you NEED don't work you have to deal with that. Maybe Nokia will fix Notes soon...
