Stuck
Greetings Everyone,
I need some help as a newbie. OK, I bought a N810 on eBay and it was working fine. I bought GPS maps from Wayfinder for 3 years and installed. Working fine, then I was queued to update the maps application, so I did. That’s when all started to happen. The maps corrupted and I couldn’t re-install. I contacted Wayfinder and they suggested I re-install the entire OS from the Nokia Site, I did, no success. Then Wayfinder suggested I re-format the internal memory space, I did, without success but now I cant even install any application, I get the error message, “Downloading skype failed “ for any application. I also tried to re-create the “TMP” folder using FileManager and it says “Operation failed” but on the removable media (added a 4GB card), I can create folders. When I go in through a Windows machine, I can access the internal memory and make folders. Any thoughts? |
Re: Stuck
Did you do a fresh reflash? I mean without restoring the back up?
You can reformat the memory card and download the maps individually via a pc. There is a link in the forum for the navicore website.... search for it. |
Re: Stuck
I would do as Sachin suggests, reflash the entire tablet (not the internal memory card) and don't restore anything from a backup. See if you can get maps to install via the tablet.
If it won't install even on a freshly reflashed tablet then there's probably something physically wrong with the tablet. If you need help with reflashing the tablet, check out this tutorial: http://tabletschool.blogspot.com/200...-firmware.html As sachin said, don't restore the backup, see if it works without restoring first. |
Re: Stuck
Hey everyone. I just did that. I did it twice before without results. I don't think it's anything physically wrong with the device because I can see the internal card from Windows and can modify the folder structure there. It seems like something with the Wayfinder update has changed some type of permissions somewhere on the system.

Re: Stuck
Hmm... wonder if this is something to do with the latest firmware, "Diablo". It caused some problems with installing other third party applications, maybe it's somehow interfering with Wayfinder?
I'm sorry I can't help further... :-( |
Re: Stuck
if internal memory card has map directory remove it and try downloading maps from wayfinder again. Write your license code down if you already didn't.

Re: Stuck
After getting an error message, try using the terminal utility and type:
dmesg The last 5-10 lines are usually the most interesting. They might point to obvious I/O errors, but can also log harmless messages that sound bad. Might be worthwhile to paste it here. I don't understand how a problem like that would persist between installs unless the package is broken in the repository or there are hardware problems. Any idea why the guy was selling on eBay? It's a lot easier to sell as "Like new, works perfectly!" when the device works but has problems later. |

I've used "Map" lots of times under Diablo, anyway. |

I don't know at all, this is completely out of my field of expertise, but thought the suggestions might help. :-) |
Re: Stuck
No practical help but I have updated my Wayfinder maps under Diablo and am using them with no problems.
If after a clean 'flash' it doesn't work, it'd seem to be a problem with the IT. Disk corruption or damage, maybe? |
Re: Stuck
Greetings Everyone. I wanted to many thanks everyone for the help. I've got a lot to try and will keep everyone posted. I just wanted to say the defining point was the upgrade - things started to break after that. I'm pretty confident its not physically damages since the unit has not been dropped, static discharge etc.
After the Flash, I could not install Skype. By co-incidence, my wireless router went out and that explains my loss of wireless access in the house. I wanted to try to install Skype since I had it working before and it is one from the pick list and am familiar with its functions/features. |
Re: Stuck
I am pretty sure the internal memory card became read-only.
Connect your tablet to a Linux/Windows machine and format it from there. Do a backup copy if you can.... It should fix it. |
