just purchased that laser virtual keyboard

Sup all,

I just purchased that laser virtual keyboard (just awaiting shipping) and was wondering if anyone played with it and had any experience with it.

Whats your take on it.

Thanks
Cedric

Any chance you could throw up a webcam video of it in action when you get it? I always wondered how it would stand up to quick typing.

cis4life 2006-06-22 13:06

yeah,

I was going to do a full review of it with pictures and all that. Just so excited about it.

Im gonna feel like Tom Cruise in Minority Report when I get it. lol

I'm highly sceptical, you need to really have discipline about your fingers with one of those. I tend to rest my fingers on the keys, which on that device will register as one continuing keypress... but then I'm a touch typist so I definitely prefer a Thinkoutside foldable bluetooth. :) But do a review and let us know.

Bought the device (laser keyboard). Cool as can be and the wow effect is tremendous. After updating my OS to latest 2005 image can not type anymore, used to be able to on the prior version.

It seems all external keyboards (BT and USB) are broken in OS2006. I have another thread about this and I have submitted a maemo bug report (Bug 619).

Since not too many people seem to be using external keyboards and OS2006, it is important that everybody that encounters this adds to (vote for) my bug report.

Try this - Go to a web page with a text entry box (i.e.) Google search. Your virtual keyboard may work there. It also seems to work in xterm (which is where it is most needed, IMHO).

Celluon Laserkey CL800BT?

Hi,

just got my hands on this nice little gadget: http://www.celluon.com/

Is there a chance for connecting it to the 770? I didn'n manage it until now :( ThinkOutside Stowaway BT-Keyboard works fine ...

Thanks, Diet

How is the usability of this virtual keyboard. How hard is it to touch type? Does it have a little virtual stub on the "F" and "J" key so I know where to put my fingers? Haha...j/k on the last part. Seriously....It looks nice and all, but I want to know how it performs. If you have to constantly look at where your finger is it wouldn't be useful.

I think it's the same problem with every brand of virtual keyboard - it's virtual ;)
So first you have to look where to put your fingers. But if you place your wrist firmly on the desktop and don't change the position it's easy to hit the correct keys after some time of practising - especially if you are familiar with blind typing :)
The Celluon Laserkey also supports a kind of "virtual mouse": if you "hold down" the key with the mouse pointer symbol in the lower left corner of the keyboard you can use another finger like a touch pad on a notebook. You can even do mouse clicks!

The overall usability is astonishingly good! My only problem is that I didn't get the Celluon connected to my 770 yet :(

Cl800bt

I purchased the Celluron CL800BT laser keyboard. It looks like the only way to get this going on my N810 is via kbdd. I noticed that this make of keyboard is not explicitly mentioned in the list for kbdd. Has anyone managed to get kbdd working for the CL800BT on the N810? I am asking as it will probably take me a long time just to install kbdd (I am only an IT user not a developer).

Cheers

Jon

I thought you could just pair this and use it no problems?
Isn't it just a standard bluetooth keyboard device, in which case it should just "work"?
I got a nokia keyboard for my n800 a while back, and pairing that was well easy, shouldn't this be the same?

Thanks for the reply. The CL800BT is a serial keyboard and does not do HID like yours.Kbdd supports serial ports keyboards but I can;t see my model listed.

For me, its definitely a feedback thing. I even have a hard time with those "hard" keyboards where there is very little feedback. I can't imagine typing on a solid desktop.

That said, there is an additional coolness factor on top of using on your NIT. You'll be the envy of the IT shop. :)
