Buying N810 in France?

Hello all, particularly any French readers...

I am on bike tour through Europe and would like to buy a Nokia N810. So buying through the internet/second hand isn't an option. I will be in Lyon in a few days. Does anyone know of some retailers there that would stock this tablet?

I have been trying really hard to find one in Austria and Switzerland, but no luck. Closest I got was one Saturn store in Salzberg who said their N810s would arrive in 2 weeks, and a Media Markt in Innsbruck who still had old N770's that they couldn't sell.

Thanks in advance,

Rodney

Hi.

I do not know where to buy this device. I got mine through an auction website. I never have seen any place where one could be the n810 in France :(

See it in a phone store, for 549 Euro ...

At this, price is 369 Euros on the official nokia store (web site). And you can found it at Comp USA for 369 Dollars (if i remember) ... around 259 Euros ... you can also ask in a store nammed "phone house" to command it for you. (but i don t recommand them)

Some Nokia stores have it (at least one in Paris). I do not know the price, but i would guess that it would be the same as in the web.

Amazon.fr has also available the N810.
Other option is Pixmania for 389€

Try to use a French 'price watch' or a website where you can find computer shops who sell accessoires. You may be able to find a small or otherwise not well known shop there. I don't know such website for France though.

You realize that if you buy an N810 in France you will get a weird AZERTY-layout hardware keyboard, don't you ? :-)

Anyway, I concur that you don't stand much of a chance of finding one in a shop. Maybe try your luck in the Lyon "Fnac"...

Another option could be online classifieds for second-hand units. For instance, if after Lyon you are continuing southwards to the Côte d'Azur, there is one for sale near Toulon :

A french keyboard is the greatest nightmare you can imagine. Almost impossible to type. You will find them a lot not only in France, but also in the french speaking parts in Africa.

Yeah, it's a bit like driving on the left hand side, or using the Imperial rather than metric system : it's a nightmare, unless you're a local :-)

heh that's remind me my last training I had in Paris: all keyboards were with the french layout. It's a miracle I didn't get crazy, especially since most of the training was on the command-line. At the end of the week my hands were hurting, since they weren't used to that weird position...

but if you really insist on having a N810 with french keyboard, I second recommendation of trying in a FNAC...

Software-wise, you can easily change the keyboard layout. You're able to do this the first time you start up the device.

Dvorak users are used to this! ;)

I think it is also possible to detach the keyboard from the N810, and put a different one in it? Not sure...

Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions. I will try the Lyon Fnac. Toulon isn't on my way yet, but I will keep an eye on that auction website. As for the keyboard... I too am bqffled by the azerty but I think I would be able to change the layout. At least it would use a European power adapter!

Thanks,

Rodney
