Presence/GTalk Won't sign in.
For some reason, I can't get the 770 to sign into my gtalk account. It worked once, I made some calls and it was fine, but now it won't sign in.
The indicator flashes between red and whatever other mode it is attempting to use (i.e, online or away or invisible), but there is little/no traffic sent over the wi-fi it is connected to. After about 3 minutes the 770 gives up and says "Unable to connect to one or more accounts". I've tried removing the account and re-adding it, restarting the device, trying a different account and using GPRS as the internet connection rather than wi-fi, all without success... Anyone got any bright ideas? Edit: I'm aware that 2006 is still in Beta. I'm just asking if anyone knows a fix for this issue, or even if anyone else has the issue? |

When this happened to me, it was because I was logged into gtalk on my PC (seems to me the 770 client won't log you off if you're logged in elsewhere). Doubt it's the problem you're seeing, but for what it's worth... Brad. |
GTalk works from home and doesn’t work from the office. And I can connect to the internet from both places. I submitted this issue to the Google.

I was logged in at the time, so i tried logging out on my pc and logging in on the 770, but no luck :( Thanks for the idea though. Quote:
That's probably due to a firewall where you work or something like that. Talk to your network admin before Google :) |
Exactly same things for me: first time I setup googletalk with orange gprs access
I was able to be online and see my gmail contacts, supposed I can call them, next day I was on wifi and call a friend to install gtalk on his XP, I saw him online and we try to make call, I received ringing but no voice between us, all of this was expecting since he was surfing with orange gprs access and VOIP is prohibited by contract ... But more interesting for your question, since this time I reflash my tablet and now I'm unable to go online with orange gprs (even orange wifi ...) I can't see my gmail contacts like before and I don't expect orange change something on his firewall settngs since my test was done in a week-end time ... No since nobody I know use gtalk, I just wait final release arrive. Good day, Laurent. |
It happened to me too, but then I realized it was because there's a bug in the beta system. It has something to do with having too many wifi setups saved and having the 770 automatically connect to saved wifi connections. It started working again when I deleted all the wifi settings except the one I needed. Try it out and see if it works.

That doesnt seem to have worked either... removed every connection apart from 1 wi-fi.. still won't connect to gtalk :(

3 accounts
I have 3 accounts and I can not log into googletalk on my 770 with one of them. The other 2 work fine, all three work in windows. I have tried everything I can think of, although I did not remove my wifi setting this seems ridiculous?
I would create a new account and see if you have any better luck |
Not sure if you have the same issue
I just deleted my account (770gtalk) and tried to recreate it, but I can't get the same name. So I created another account (770addict), this also would not sign in to googletalk?
So I deleted that account also, I created (linux770) this one signs in no problem, could the beginning of the ID starting with a number be the issue I was having. All the accounts worked in windows, the two that started with 770 would not log into googletalk on the 770 Strange, can anyone else confirm this behavior? |
I tried several accounts, all of which started with letters rather than numbers, so I don't think that accounts starting with numbers are the problem.

Same problem
Whatever the account used it is impossible to use as well as gtalk as IM!!!
Whatever the wifi/3G/GPRS cxion used impossible also and it works perfectly on teh pc!!! Does somebody from maemo/nokia has a clue ? rgds eric. |
get the answer!!!
In tools (outil) parameters (paramètres) security tab (onglet securité) uncheck activate SSL2 and set cookies to always.... and its working. regards. eric. |
I tried the above changes (I could only find those security settings in the web browser) and it did not work.

google accounts
I have made 5 google accounts
2 work consistently, 1 works 95% 2 never worked on 770, both worked on PC ??? |
Does anyone who worked on the Beta know if this was ever reported as an "official" bug? And if not, how can I report it? Do I need to register with Nokia or Maemo to post bug reports?

unclicking ssl2 worked for me using jajah.com and a ipkall phone number and gtalk2voip.com.
thank you. |

The new/final release of OS 2006 has not fixed my login problem. I have 2 GM/GT accounts, only one of which works. I am going to try 3 other accounts (wife and friend's) to see which of those work.
|
I have tried 5 accounts now. Four of them work, one doesn't.
I did find that same bug report on maemo (see post above). It seems to have been reported, so let's see how long until we get a fix. As I said yesterday, if the addition of Google Talk is the big new feature of this upgrade, then you would think that being able to log in to your Google account to actually use this feature would be required functionality! |
I just had a problem where I couldn't sign in ("Network error" in the Presence drop down) - repeated attempts to login all failed, so finally I rebooted the 770 and hey presto I've logged in...
|
I have problems to connect to GTalk and application repositories. I have tried two GTalk addresses and I can get them to connect maybe every 20th try.
Bugzilla bug 529 is marked as "resolved invalid" and it was resolved setting right date and time. I have correct date and time (time zone GMT+2 & daylight-saving on), my wlan and internet connection is working (internet radio streaming while connecting to GTalk), I have reflashed few times and got same symptoms with two different 770's. Refreshing application catalog has same kind of problem, it works but I have to try it several times. I wonder if these problems are related? My AP is A-link RR24AP. |
I had problems which disappeared when I did the following:
Remove the accounts. Reboot. Reboot. Add the account again, but instead of the pre-defined "@gmail.com", I entered "@googlemail.com". Reboot. Reboot. Only then re-connect to the network. And: it worked. Don't know which of these activities was necessary, though. |

It is working! You don't need to reboot. rok |
I've still got no joy. Damn thing just won't sign in! Anyone got any other ideas?

Ideas Abound
I am having a problem with T-mobile. When I do gprs I can not go to google.com. I started playing around with my MTU settings in /etc/ppp/options, I set the mru to 512 and mtu to 576, I can now get to google websites, woohoo. Well why am I telling you in this thread? OK, now googletalk will not sign in. I also had same issue using a proxy server googletalk would not sign in. Somewhere along the path, whether its your router or out on the internet somewhere. See if you can find a way to play with you mru/mtu settings and I bet you will find a solution that works. |
...this is a problem for uk users
See this webpage : http://mail.google.com/mail/help/int...ooglemail.html
So as a previous poster suggested, try changing the pre-selected @gmail.com to @googlemail.com Worked for me ! |

Edit: I just noticed that I can even see the presence state of others while the connection ball is flashing red and green, but I can't call to them. I don't understand what is wrong. |
The 'googlemail' solution does not work for me. I am surprised that such a fundamental bug is considered closed, when the reports still persist. Does anyone know if a new bug report has been posted?
|
Neither for me.
The odd thing is that I can not connect through my router, but I do through my bluetooth phone. Tried all sorts of thing with no success (such as disabling router firewall etc.) |

Googletalk problem persists
I'm still having trouble with this one too. Davman, were you ever able to get it resolved?
|
I'm currently at work (they have open internet browsing via wireless here), and GTalk is signed in just fine. It signs in every-time i restart, just fine, in general, it's fine.
If I take my unit home, it will not work for love nor money. I still have no idea what the difference is between the network at work, and the network at home. |
Re: Presence/GTalk Won't sign in.
Nearly a year on from the last post on this topic but I'm suffering the same problem and wondered if anyone came up with a solution.
I have 2 wireless networks here - both dlink routers - one allows me to use google talk, the other one doesn't - they are different models (604t and 624). I get the "unable to connect to one or more accounts" message on one. On the other it works fine. I have recently travelled with the 770 and found that google talk/messaging didn't work in the majority of hotspots (but it did in some). I've scoured the internet and found several people with the same problem, but no solution. Did it ever get solved. The problem is that if you take this away travelling and you are going to use it for calling home, you need to know it's going to work! thanks in advance to anyone who can help. |
