n810 as a touchpad for pc

Anyway to use the n810 as a touchpad for pc? Not to view the screen but to control the cursor. Just like you would on a laptop touchpad.

Re: n810 as a touchpad for pc

rdesktop should do the trick.

Re: n810 as a touchpad for pc

Better yet, you can use VNCviewer. But it wont really act as a touchpad to drag the mouse like you would on a real touchpad, in vnc you point and click on the screen.

Why would vnc be better? Vnc is slower and doesnt display the whole screen! You spend the whole time moving the scroll bars!

what i wanted would be what you'd get on a real touchpad. not 1:1 on the screen, but move left, cursor would go left. tap the screen and it'll left click. that sorta thing.

doesn't seem to be anything that'll do that.

how to do this ?

Re: n810 as a touchpad for pc

What OS are you running on your PC? It matters.

For example, you're not allowed to log in 2 times on Windows XP. On Windows NT 5.2 you can attach to a session with Rdesktop.

You could try VNC with heavy compression (against the lag) e.g. over SSH.

Remoko would be nice but I would like it to have media controls like the iphone application.

Laughing Man 2008-09-11 19:10

Re: n810 as a touchpad for pc

Well there are a set of media control options (if you look at the link in the description of the youtube video). To send signals like play, pause, etc..

Then there's always irreco over telnet for control of VLC, Winamp, and Foobar2000.

Kytrix 2008-09-11 20:23

Re: n810 as a touchpad for pc

I'm running linux Ubuntu !

via irreco it's not a mouse control..

Laughing Man 2008-09-11 20:40

Re: n810 as a touchpad for pc

Yeah, but jackdoor was asking about media controls (I think he/she meant play, pause, stop, etc..)

Unless he/she meant actually being able to control what media was being played or what not? If so, something like Sonata + MPD would work better for Linux at least. But that still isn't mouse control.

BlueMaemo is written in Python and C, no Java needed.
I have the beta version completed, but I'm having some troubles figure the best way to distribute the package, because it need root privileges (open reserved bluetooth sockets),if anybody have some suggestion I appreciate :D

In your package. create a file called:
/etc/sudoers.d/bluemaemo.sudoers

Put this in the file:
user ALL = NOPASSWD: <program you want to be able to execute as root - FULL PATH MUST BE SPECIFIED>

In the postinst, put:
update-sudoers || true

Then where you need to run the program as root, just specify sudo <program> to start the program.

This is what i initially did for switchonbt script, a better way would be to use d-bus commands.
Let me know if I can be of help.
