Screen protector ?

Do you suggest applying a screen protector to the N810 ?

if yes, which one is the best choice ?

thanks, Umberto

Re: Screen protector ?

Yes, it is highly recommended.

I bought the one from Brando (please, search) when I started to see small scratches in my screen and received it in Argentina in less than a week with free shipping from Hong Kong. This protector works very well.

Hi, I'm from Argentina too, where did you buy it exactly? did you have to pay customs, how much was it? pesos, dollars? I have an N800, but I think the screen is the same.

Yes I suggest you install one. I ordered one for the PSP @ dealextreme.com for $2 + Free shipping and it fit perfectly. All I had to do was cut the side a little and it fit like the original.

I bought it here:

http://shop.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=02286

I paid U$S 12 for one screen protector. Customs are not involved, since they send it in a regular envelope, as a simple letter (the product is flat and flexible enough).

Now I see it costs U$S 9. Maybe I did pay for the shipping U$S 3 for a total of U$S 12 (I don't remember exactly) but it is still completely reasonable.

fantástico, ya encargué.
I mean, fantastic, I've ordered one ;)
Yes, it's 9 each +3 shipping worldwide.

How long did you have to wait?

alephito 2008-09-01 11:19

Re: Screen protector ?

I think it took a week to arrive.

Valeria 2008-10-04 18:38

Re: Screen protector ?

Well, it finally arrived. It took 34 days. I sent a couple of mails complaining and they offered to re-send the screen protector, but asked me to wait a little more. I think most (all?) of the blame falls on my country's mail. The protector is very high quality and fits perfect.

So I recommend them, good product, good price (3$ shipping worldwide for small things), and good customer support.

Valeria,

Mine arrived within two weeks and you know we use the same mail service. Maybe you were unlucky.

Now enjoy it.

Do those screen protectors leave bubbles where dust particles are?
I have bought a PSP screen protector (http://madcatz.com/Default.asp?Page=...SP_Accessories) but it leaves small bubbles of about 2 mm diameter where any tiny dust particle is (and yes, I tryed hard to get rid of any dust before applying it, but still...)

Re: Screen protector ?

I suggest WriteRight Universal screen protectors. They require cutting but you get 10 in the box and they are very durable. Also they seem to be thicker than some of the other protectors I've tried.

The search function is very useful, however it is distressing that people who can afford a $400 pocket computer can't figure out how to look things up.
I don't think there have been many revolutionary advances in screen protectors recently.

/edit especially with this forums function of showing you relevant threads when you type in the title.
I just tried screen protector and it popped up 5 prior threads.

Just, fyi, the Brandos are knock-offs of the Boxwave protector, and the upgrade in quality with Boxwave is definitely worth the price difference.

Does it do everything it claims to do?

I'm more than satisfied with them. They're incredibly durable, great at reducing glare and finger smudging, have much better texture, are fairly easy to apply, and very forgiving about being reapplied.

Well, the surface is more paper-like than the bare touchscreen, so perhaps they figure your hand will be more accustomed to the feel? :p

2nd vote - from an ipod friend - for the invisishield. I want one too. lifetime warranty, scatchproof military grade (chopper blade covers!), virtually invisible. same price but way better than boxwave he said.

yes, but you live in the capital city and I don't. I live in a small "town" 5km away from a medium size city (Salta), quite far from Buenos Aires. Mail always takes longer here.

It is quite hard to apply it without any particles getting inside, but I've seen no bubbles, only the "little hairs" that always float around.

Re: Screen protector ?

I'd usually vote for Best Skins Ever since they're about 1/3 the price of Zagg, but since they don't carry pre-made N8xx screen protectors, I guess paying 3x more for a Zagg is worth it.

Otherwise, you can buy a piece from BSE to cut out yourself, or just buy 3M Scotchgard by the foot from a few auto paint shops.

I didn't think Brando was a knock-off of Boxwave. I remember Brando existing a long time before Boxwave, but it might have been due to availability. I had a Brando on my old CLie N760C 7 years ago.

Sorry, Valeria. I didn't know about those delays.

Nope, film. Or else it wouldn't be the same material as the screen protectors that BSE and Zagg use.

Re: Screen protector ?

I have been using Martin Fields Overlay Plus (at http://www.overlayplus.com/ ) as screen protector for my Palm pilots, and now for my N810. I'm very happy with it. It was actually recommended ("it's the best screen protector in the world") to me by a seller from a shop when I wanted to buy another screen protector from that shop. :-)

I can't really compare it to any of the other recommended screen protectors in this thread, though.

Martin Fields ships from Hong Kong. They have a speedy delivery and I've always recieved the package lot faster than they state on the web page.

Re: Screen protector ?

I chose the free shipping and got my Invisishield within 1 week. Went with the full body shield since I hate scratches anywhere. It was a bit of a pain to put on and I had to redo 1 or 2 sections. After about 10hrs it looks awesome. The skin molded itself to the slight curves and the N810 is now super shiny! Not only is it scratch proof but I found out that it's also finger print proof! Much easier to grip too. Now I can slide it across a table or whatever and not worry about any scratches. This product is awesome and for me was worth $25 bucks.

Maybe I'm one of the idiots who can't seem to work the search feature correctly, but has anyone tried a cheap ebay iphone protector like http://cgi.ebay.com/3PCS-SCREEN-PROT...QQcmdZViewItem ?

Seems like a ridiculously good deal.

I'm a very careful user, so I'm just looking for something to give me a little extra protection (my n810 has been going commando for the past month, no scratches or anything)

Re: Screen protector ?

Really? Nobody's tried it? I got an *****load of misc screen protectors for like 30cents or less each comin from eBay (mostly Hong Kong).

I guess I'll be letting you know how they work out.

I saw some advice to apply the screen protectors in a bathroom after you have showered, the principle being that the tremendous humidity for 15+ minutes beforehand will eliminate most dust particles from the air. It's especially good against fingerprints because your hands are free from skin oils after a shower.

I can't say if that particle/ humidity thing is true, but I can say that I have installed three screen protectors in that way, and two of those are "perfect."

I bought this one from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/3x-PDA-LCD-SCREE...QQcmdZViewItem
It came with 3 and they fit perfectly and they are easy to apply. It's not exactly easy to apply without dust or air bubbles, so I'll have to try it after a shower. It's nice that they're reusable too. I ended up scratching one with the included squeegee by rubbing it on the sticky side. I tried buying a psp screen protector, but it got lots of scratches as I remembered psp's are not touchscreen.

Re: Screen protector ?

The screen protector I use is the DuraSec one. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/DuraSec-High...2131744&sr=8-1)

Well actually I bought the one for the N800 even though I have an N810. It fits just the same but at the time there wasn't one for my model ;)

I've previously have many screen protectors on things in the past, and have never been happy with them, they always changed the light and picture quality or let a sneen on the screen that caused reflections to show up.

BUT this one is totally different!! It's thicker that I would normally expect, but once it's on, you'll never know! It's like a gel, and really doesn't mark at all, or scratch like the plastic ones you can get. There is no reflection and no change to the screen at all! It's amazing!! I've had it one for a year and a half and it's still going good, just like the day I put it on!!

It's well worth paying a little extra and getting one like this! They really do last longer and the quality is just so much better!

Re: Screen protector ?

Although this is not the cheapest option, I chose a ZAGG Invisible Shield for my n810. I chose the full-body option, but you can just buy the screen protector. See: http://www.zagg.com/
The Invisible Shield is supposed to be virtually undestructable--won't scratch or scuff. You can remove it and clean it if you want. It should pretty much last you for the life of your device.
I chose the full-body option because I didn't like the extra bulk that a leather case added to my Palm TX and wanted to use my n810 (mostly) without an external case.
One downside of the Invisible Shield is that it is a bit on the rubbery side. If you want a slick surface for the screen--if you do a lot of drawing for instance--then, you may want to choose something different.
The n810 full-body Invisible Shield covers almost every part of the device except for the bottom edge of the slide-out screen portion.
ZAGG has frequent promotions. I got my Invisible Shield last Winter when they had a 25% off sale for their gift cards. I got the card and then used it to buy the n810 Invisible Shield.

ok, after trying all super cheap eBay screen protectors, the iPod Touch 2nd Gen is the best one.

trim off about a half inch where the circle hole is, and a cm or so off the bottom (lengthwise).

this makes for an excellent *CHEAP* screen protector for the N810.

(like between $0.10 and $0.25 cents... I mean CHEAP)

Just installed the Invisible Shield and I must say I am impressed... It is a bit rubbery, but you can hardly notice it on the screen. now if I could find a nice snap on metal cover I wouldn't need the pouch at all...

For owners of Brando's ultra-clean:

Is there any holes in this screen protector? (for camera, sensors?)
Or it protects screen only, not the whole front panel like Zagg?
