"Great work" to the team. The next evolution in my most useful app.

Works as advertised!

Re: DialCentral

Thanks, but it asks for login password?
Also, does it work on 770 OS2006/OS2007HE?

You need to enter your Grandcentral login credentials.

It will run on os2007, but I don't have it packaged up for os2007 yet.

Sorry, I meant the download link needs login password, not the program itself.

Sorry, it still doesn't work. It links to a web page that ask for login password. I created a new account, but still can't get to the download page. I may have to try it later.

Re: DialCentral

I found out why, your link is
https://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/dialcentral/

it should be
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/dialcentral/

the http should be no (s) at the end

Re: DialCentral

It works great on my N800 , I like the contacts support. The only bug is it doesn't show the telephone icon like the way it was before with the old version. But everything else works great. THANKS A LOT.

Re: DialCentral

I recently downloaded this app, but I don't know how to use it, although the login seemed to be fine.

The search of "dialcentral" gave me some huge threads to read. Is there a help page somewhere that briefly explains how it works?

brontide 2008-09-10 23:34

Re: DialCentral

Click on the account page.

Listed there is your account number, a button to logout ( I need to remove that ) and your current "callback" number. The main function of this application is to connect a dialed or selected phone number with that callback number via grandcentral.

If you want the NIT to "ring" search for a thread on setting up gizmo ( both in general and with grandcentral ). The theory of operation here is that your Nokia is signed into gizmo, grandceltral's callback number is gizmo and therefore all the numbers you call will activate the internet call application.

I know that was a little much for one post, so please post a followup if you have questions.

Re: DialCentral

Thanks for the offer. Here are my questions.

I put my cell number under "callback number", used keypad to enter a phone number and pressed "dial". Nothing happened. Is there a step I missed?

I don't see anything under contacts now. I suppose it doesn't synchronize with the contacts I have in grandcentral?

When I closed the app and reopened it, the callback number became empty. Do I need to enter it everytime I use it?

Is there a way for to it automatically login to my grandcentral account each time I open the app?

Re: DialCentral

emmaitt,

I'm positive, for whatever reason, you are not logged into the service correctly. This is why you are confused... it's not working as intended.

You are using version 0.8.0-9 ( from extras )?
Can you login via http://www.grandcentral.com/mobile/ ?
Can you use the click 2 call services through the website?
You are not out of space in / ( df -h ) ?
Deleting the file /home/user/.gc_dialer_cookies.txt

If none of those items reveal anything open XTerminal ( apps -> utilities ( at the bottom ) and enter...

python2.5 /usr/bin/dialcentral.py

This should provide you with some debugging output that might be useful ( this can also be done via ssh if you have it installed ).

Re: DialCentral

You are right. It turns out I used a wrong user ID. Perhaps a message saying that the userid/password is incorrect would help out others like me?

Everything works - synchronized contacts, stored call-back numbers, automatic login...

This is for your spare time only... a "search" function for contacts would be a great help for people like me with hundreds of contacts . A "new" contact that allows people to create new one will be great too.

Thank you for the good work and help.

Yeah... I'll figure something out. After trying to login multiple times I'll throw up a warning before giving up. I know exactly where I would put it.

Re: DialCentral

Some suggestions....

How about having a "Connecting" or "Attempting to Log in" notification popup in the upper right corner that pops up letting the user know what is happening. Also, once a login is successful, another popup saying so. Perhaps also, make the dial buttons, etc. grayed out until the login is successful so that users don't attempt to dial or do other things that obviously won't work unless logged in.

One other thing I noticed is that once I login, I can't view my GC contacts until (on the Contacts tab) I select 'None' in the dropdown combo and then re-select 'GrandCentral'.

Keep up the good work! :)

It's probably more likely that you didn't give it long enough to populate. I almost always get that one to fill in. It's the recent tab that sometimes forgets where I am.

That and the other feedback would be good, but it's one of those complicated items... I'll see what I can do.

I have, thanks to Khertan, included thumb scrolls on 0.8.1 ( in extras-devel ) give me a few days to reacclimate to my own time zone and I'll think about posting it to extras.

Re: DialCentral

Hmm mine seems to be stuck in limbo for some reason now. I open the application and it takes me to dial pad, I don't need to login. But no contacts, no information on the account tab (where you can click 'clear authentication' and nothing on recent. Clicking on clear, or new login from menu does nothing.

Edit: And now it works.. (how odd)

DialCentral in Xubuntu?

I run DialGentral not only on my n800 but also on my two laptops. I'm running whats in the svn repository, currently revision 149. In Ubuntu 8.04, everything runs fine. In Xubuntu 8.04 (xfce-based) I get the following when I try to run.

Code:

tlacuache@abuelito:~/coding/svn/gc-dialer/trunk/src$ ./gc_dialer.py

And that's it. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: DialCentral

Oh boy. I'll get looking on it tonight.

As a note, svn is still lagging behind the current release of DialCentral.

tlacuache 2008-10-02 22:14

Re: DialCentral

You're right, I grabbed the appropriate files out of the .deb and ran it from there, and it worked (although my contacts and recent list were empty). It's just what's in subversion that won't run at all. But it's enough for me to be able to run and make calls.

Thanks.

Re: DialCentral

As a note, I put 0.8.0-9 in svn and added some minor tweaks. So this lacks thumscroll and any other cool tablet love that has been done. Hopefully later Ill dig through extras-devel and grab the files to merge them back up again

I love the threading and holding down on the back button. I also appreciate getting better/different ideas for lazy load, threading without being a pain (for some reason each approach I took came from the wrong angle and added too much complexity), and handling of GTK/Hildon conversion without post-processing.

Does having the separate launch file allow us to now import from the __future__? The with_statement would add a bit more polish to the locking.

epage 2008-10-03 00:30

Re: DialCentral

Oh and in case it isn't fixed in the 0.8.1-extras-devel, (if I didn't introduce it) I think I fixed the recent tab in 0.8.0-svn. In the changing around of the tab ordering, the populating of the tabs didn't get fixed, so if you went into the account tab, then recent calls would be populated.

Sorry for the version confusion

epage 2008-10-09 01:16

Re: DialCentral

(I think) svn is fully up to date now. I just pulled the two line change from extras-devel for thumbscrolling. I also fixed an issue with the contacts view.

So in summary, svn has what I've marked as 0.8.2 which in theory has everything in 0.8.0 and 0.8.1 plus
* Combined address book
* A contact bug fix
* A recent calls bug fix

It also has the bare minimum start for gmail contacts and another approach to evolution contacts that might be more tablet friendly. I currently have issues with both though, so not doing too much with it.

Re: DialCentral

epage, I never found a good deal for an N800 a while back, but I'm definitely looking for a way to run this app on my Ubuntu box.

Where is the source or svn located? Thanks a bunch! Sounds like quite an awesome app.

epage 2008-12-09 13:06

Re: DialCentral

Subversion direction can be found at:
https://garage.maemo.org/scm/?group_id=657

I also failed at getting an n800 so it runs perfectly under Ubuntu. There are still a couple bugs I'm aware of but hopefully for the most part they are masked over and aren't too noticeable.

*sigh* Only if they'd hurry up with the n900....

DialCentral is a PyGTK/Hildon frontend to Google's Grand Central. Last I know of, no more invites are being given out. The app has limited functionality without an account.

Is there anyway you can update the app so that the bottom tabs dont show as blank when using the kobayashi, tritanium or meta themes that were released recently? (see screenshot)

Re: DialCentral

Hey

I am working on an updated version. Its a bit delayed as I fight the extras process (no wonder everyone doesn't put there packages in extras)

This issue seems kind of odd especially since we do not overwrite the theming at all. I wonder if this is actually a bug in the theme. Does this happen with other tabbed apps?

munky261 2009-02-04 12:30

Re: DialCentral

The only other tabbed app i can think of that I use is pidgin and it works fine...those themes are by the same guy(s) that made the LCARS package...Ill try a couple of those themes and see if i get the same results...but other than that I have no issues with these themes.

Re: DialCentral

There was a dialcentral update that appeared today. I updated.

Now there is no account information. The account tab shows nothing. Hitting the clear account button does nothing. Going to "File/New Login" does nothing.

I tried deleting the ".gc" file, but I still get nothing at all.

Any suggestions?

Re: DialCentral

I assume your using extras-devel rather than the extras version? I'm trying to update the extras version but it looks like a couple bugs were introduced in the packaging process (which makes me grateful for a staging ground like extras-devel)

Hopefully fixed soon

darrellpf 2009-02-07 03:11

Re: DialCentral

Ooops, yes. I have extras-devel enabled so I must have picked up that version.

I'm not in any hurry, so will wait for another better version to appear.

thanks for the quick response.

Re: DialCentral

Hopefully corrected version is in the extras-devel autobuilder now.

Its odd, I thought I had already fixed this bug when I first started extras prep...

Re: DialCentral

I installed that version... it is back to working fine.

thanks...

Sorry to take so long in getting back on this. I confirmed that we are not doing any special coloring of the tabs and the tabs seem to work fine on the theme I currently have my device set to. Unless I'm missing something, my best guess is this is a theme issue. I wonder if Pidgin is doing some custom tabs.

I really don't think it's an issue with the themes; tabs work perfectly in Kobayashi (and all my themes) with other apps. Based on munky261's screenshot, it looks like you aren't using the standard tab graphics provided by the gtk theme.

Thanks for the feedback. This puts me at a total loss as to what the issue is though.

It works perfectly fine on my desktop with multiple themes and on my tablet with the builtin themes.

I am not aware of doing any dirty tab tricks in the code and I just double checked the glade file and it all looks as expected (from my limited experience with GTK). I must be missing something. Anyone care to help? The only files that deal with the notebook widget are "gc_dialer.py" and "dialcentral.glade".

Thanks in Advance

Re: DialCentral

Hmm I reinstalled it (though I wasn't using the -deval one) but I still can't get it to work anymore. I have to login twice, and then none of my contacts show up! Even if I switch from all to grandcentral to none and back.
