[Canola] Canola2 Beta 10

I could not install Canola 2 Beta 10 on N800 with latest OS 2008.

In the application details, it says, Application packages missing:
canolad (>=0.1.4-maemo1)
pyhthon2.5-efl-core(>=0.9.9.043-maemo1)
python2.5-terra(>=0.1.8-maemo1)

Any help?

Thanks,
Syam

Update:
Canola2 Beta 10 can now be installed from extras-devel repository.

Correct versions for this release:

canola: beta10-maemo2
youtube: 0.2.0-maemo1
last.fm: 0.1.2-maemo1
tuning: 0.2.0-maemo1
upnp: 0.1.2-maemo1

Some people reported problems in installing which seems to be fixed
after removing the directory /home/user/.canola

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

well - since it's only released in maemo-extras-devel, I wouldn't really expect it to be usable.

I got the same error when I tried to install it - even in redpill mode.

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

there wouldn't happen to be a changelog available somewhere?

gerrymoth 2008-09-25 10:58

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

maybe try installing the packages manually
apt-get install canolad

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

i have the same problem. however i would epext, that those missing packages shoud be in extras-devel as well (or extras).

Bad bad users... No donut for you!!! ;)

Guys, the packages are not ready yet. Alvaro was playing with extras-devel yesterday and uploaded the canola2-beta10 package by mistake... We're stilll working on it and you'll know when it is ready...

Best Regards, Etrunko.

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

Actually we like the Canola a lot :), and have been waiting for the last five days for beta10 after reading the news on maemo.org. It appeared in the app manager today so I was eager to install it.

Looks like canolad has been uploaded, now we just have to wait for the python stuff :)

Indeed... But it was not supposed to be there. The dependencies in that canola package are wrong. We will upload a new version with everything fixed...

Why don't you go to sleep meanwhile?? :)

Is there any word on when Beta 10 is likely (barring further problems) to be released?

svu 2008-09-25 21:27

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

The only missing bit now is python2.5-terra version 0.1.8 or higher. So, we all are holding our breath, I guess :)

Good idea. Canola was great when it started to support OGG. I was just starting to enjoy Canola+OGG when Diablo came out and broke everything.... so I can't wait for Canola2 b10 to come out, even though I have discovered new found respect for YouAmp ( http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/youamp/ ) in the mean time.

etrunko 2008-09-26 14:40

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

About the ogg issue, we're working to provide the final solution for it... We didn't have time to do it by the time we released the beta9 for diablo. That was a big mistake... I really apologize for that folks.

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

Thank you! I'm a late comer to the maemo scene and was shocked when I visted this forum and saw how demanding, rude and unappreciative users of your FREE Canola product are. Keep up the great work and thank you for your contributions to the community!

ps- now we only need python2.5-terra to be uploaded :D

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

It seems like ogg-support-lightmediascanner 0.8 is installable now! Is this connected to Canola2 beta10 version? It was yesterday like 3 kb loadsize in AppManager and now it's 35 kb size. Or am I just reading it wrong?

You got the point... Ogg support is back to canola.. We're working on the fix for the final issues so beta10 can be finally released.

I'd like to have the final date, which is not the case. Anyway, we hope to have it released during this week.

I don't think I can thank you enough. If it weren't for Canola, I wouldn't have bought my N800, and would have plumped for an iPod Touch. Now, thanks to you guys, I've discovered the magic of Maemo! :D

Oh, by the way, what features does Beta10 have in store for us? Or is it a surprise? :)

LABAUDIO: that's $1E6 question for a moment;)

Cabadena:

Beta10 brings new Light media scanner version (the last one) with better support specially to help it grow :)

you can also now turn of the "startup media check" this will make the loading time solid even with big media cards (bigger than 8 gigas). So startup time will be consistent from now on

There's improvements on youtube plugin (you can paginate the searches, see comments, log in to your channels)

Lot's of improvements to the core, as we are going to release the source we want to make sure things are in better shape, so you going to notice the improvements.

I am also preparing the roadmap for the next betas, and maybe we will finally get to the point I was considering to release canola as "final" :)

handful: thanks, our mouths are full of saliva....;)

Cadabena 2008-10-07 17:41

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

svu, agreed. Being able to switch off the start up media check will be great, it takes a while (although not too long) with my 16gb card. Also, I like seeing updates to the core most of all. Having a very stable player is definitely the most important feature of all.

This sounds really great, I'm looking forward to get a new great version of my most used app on the NIT... now we just need it in the repositories ^_^

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

Yeah, after this rounds big improvements will come for each release, and this time you can trust me they will be in a more "stable" schedule. :) we need to get things rolling with a good rhythm as fast as possible, so everyone can really see their needs being implemented :)

Great job Canola team. Thanks!

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

If you're brave enough, you can try it now in the extras-devel repository. :) It will be availabe only for chinook and diablo at this first moment. As soon as we feel confortable enough, we will generate the packages for the other distributions, especially for 770.

Installed and working Thank you very much - has picked up a few folders which beta9 was refusing to scan for some reason.

Any ideas? Upgraded from beta 9 on a n800 with latest Diablo.

Similar issue here.

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

Installed perfectly, many thanks. It's great being able to stop it refreshing the folders every time. Also, canola tuning plugin now refuses to work, although it's nothing major. I think you guys should have a well deserved rest :)

etrunko 2008-10-07 22:29

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

@gregorovius: @svu: Please run it as:

$canola -vv

And paste the backolog somewhere. This will produce a lot of debug messages which are helpful.

etrunko 2008-10-07 22:36

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

@Cabadena: maybe you installed the old of the plugin. Wait a few minutes and check for updates in the application manager. The correct version of the plugins follow:

youtube: 0.2.0-maemo1
last.fm: 0.1.2-maemo1
tuning: 0.2.0-maemo1
upnp: 0.1.2-maemo1

svu 2008-10-07 22:57

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

Updated plugins. Seems to be fine now. Thanks again!

gregorovius 2008-10-07 23:03

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

Works fine after running canola-cleanup. Ogg works as well with ogg-support-lightmediascanner from the kulve repo. Thanks a lot to the whole Canola team.

edit: the tuning plugin is downloading the covers, but canola isn't displaying them. is it working for anybody else?

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

Wow, somehow the way comments are presented in the updated YouTube plugin makes the experience even more surreal than the normal YouTube commenting. Every comment is on a menu with the first little bit as the title. Click on the title and the comment opens up in full. Pick your poison kind of thing. The part that makes it all really strange is how the comment becomes the center of attention instead of a little distraction beneath a video.

Impressive :)

0.10 is working great for me. The multiple album entries I had dealt with earlier were reverted to all being separate albums, but that was fixed pretty quickly.
The 60 second science podcast works now. Yay!

I still smile every time I use Canola. The interface is so clever and simple...

svu 2008-10-07 23:32

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

Now, another trouble - trying to play any mp3, getting "File not found". Rescanned my media already.

In "canola -vv" I see:
1223422259.6705 ^[[1;31mERROR^[[0m ^[[1mcontroller:565:_player_error()^[[0m Player's Controller Error: 9 - File not found.

etrunko 2008-10-07 23:34

Re: Canola2 Beta 10

@svu: Works for me here. Please check the version of Canola. It must be ~beta10-maemo2. If it doesn't work, please remove the /home/user/.canola dir.

Seems faster for drawing the screens. The animations and scrolling are smooth, no more tearing. Its still slow in loading the music, but its good...
