It looks like it's made of wood; it shoots rubber?

Its ok, he has methods to keep her at distance :D

qole, these things are awesome.

Major props ioan, i hope your son is old enough to appreciate the workmanship required.
Its an incredible skill and I take my hat off to you.

Re: Making my son's Christmas gift...

most likely rubber bands, kinda like a gatling gun.

each spike holds one end of a rubber band and then there is some kind of mechanism that flips it of, making it shoot forwards.

im guesstimating that it holds some 72 bands ;)

btw, for those that dont feel so much like a craftsman:

Yeah, is a *rubber band shooter*. It holds and shoots max 288 rounds (rubber bands).

I'm not sure, was there a gun in that picture? I kinda got distracted.

Re: Making my son's Christmas gift...

hmm, 288, talk about me being off (but then trying to count the number of "barrels" where not the easiest from those images) ;)

That's crazy-cool! Looks like it would be almost as much fun to build as it would be to fire.

heh, i do like the "High res picture available for download" on that page.

They weren't lying, her silicone errrr rubber band gun was bigger than my screen.

on each peg you can put 3 rubber bands

i can see how that can work after seeing the video you linked to, as the rope used for rotating the brarrels also does the firing.

and by putting it in front of the same peg row multiple times allows for multiple bands to be fired.

must be a ***** to fully load tho ;)

Very cool.

I wish the lighting in the video was better... Can't actually see the rubber bands shooting.

seems like there was quite a bit of misfires...

Yes this is the most dangerous part of the exercise, going to hospital with elastic band shrapnel wounds is not something you tell your grandkids.

yeah, some rubber bands were misplaced and stuck under the barrel and that made some of the bullets to misfire :-)

You can see that in this picture:

http://ioanghip.googlepages.com/problem.JPG

I'll try to make another video with better lighting and I'll make sure none of the bands are misplaced.

Very nice job!

I'm wondering if reloading of this gun takes some time...

about 15 minutes for 192 bullets (2 rubber bands on each peg) and half of that for 96 bullets.

You realise you'll never again be able to wear shorts or roll up your shirt sleeves in the house (and wearing sunglasses at all times is probably advisable) ;)

Very cool though :)

Rubber band gatling gun V2.0

The version 2 of the "Rubber band gatling gun" is for sale on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=160304247945

I know, its kind of expensive... it took me 3 weeks to build it, so there is no way I'll sell it for less than that!
:-)
