Re: European maps N810
First are you using wayfinder? well from the menu you can directly download the EU maps to your device
|
Re: European maps N810
You can download Maps from Nokia for the built-in mapping applications. Search the web.
Other mapping applications from third parties (like Maemo Mapper), which is what many people in this forum discuss about, can automatically download maps based on your location. |
Re: European maps N810
My machine is the N810, I did try and download something from meamo. It did download then said file corrupted, I guess I shall have to try again, Thanks
|
Re: European maps N810
Open maps then download the maps to the device directly, maemo has nothing to do with the downloading it is your device pulling the maps from the servers.
|
Re: European maps N810
the only maps in my system are Canada Alaska, USA East and West, There are no avaialble maps on the system to open
|
Re: European maps N810
Also I ahve downloaded other stuff I cannot find, like tv99, it says downloaded ok, however I cannot find it in any files at all. Told you I was a technophobe

Re: European maps N810
check the country your device is set to then click 1) Maps 2) menu - 3) maps, here the screen is divided maps in device and available maps, click on available maps and click on refresh it will give you the maps of all the countries available choose your country area and then download them and enjoy your navigation

Re: European maps N810
WorldTV99 is just a playlist for KMplayer, look for it there.

Re: European maps N810
I do appreciate all this advice, Im currently downloading UK maps so I will let you know how I go on with that, but its taking a while to do. As for TV99 I mistakenly thought it was program to enable me to pick up tv channels on my tablet. Therefore my next question is there such a program I can download that will let me do this.

Re: European maps N810
Right, the UK maps on my machine is corrupted, Ive downloaded it twice now it just keeps coming up with a message saying download again file corrupted. Is there anywhere I can sort this.

Re: European maps N810
Great that its now downloaded, however, the page just literally shows a map of the uk, I can move into other locations but when i do the show my location tab, it does nothing. It just says location not available but there is a symbol showing a satellite which I guess is the gps system. Again is there something I should be doing.

Re: European maps N810
iirc, if you do not have agps set up, and either a wifi or phone based connection to the net, the internal gps will take its sweet time getting a proper lock-on...
but when that happens, it should zoom in on your location automatically. |
Re: European maps N810
MY machine is currently on a wifi connection and has been for several hours. The location just stays the same, The central point of the screen is just in the middle of the irish sea. Doesnt move at all. Do I have to do something else to the gps system on the tablet. It states its enabled. Am I supposed to use a seperate device.

Re: European maps N810
may i ask if you have clear view of the skies?
gps signals are poor at penetrating the insides of buildings... |
Re: European maps N810
Ah, Ive been inside all day. I shall go out in the garden and have a go there.. I shall give you a shout back ina bit
|
Re: European maps N810
Well just been freezing cold in the garden, and still nothing. I have a lot of fields etc around my house so i dont think the signal could be blocked by other buildings, so I guess Ill have to live with the fact that it just dont work, lol

Re: European maps N810
After starting the map application, do you see a satellite symbol in the system task bar at the right upper corner?
When you're outside, click on the fourth symbol (the satellite one) in the Maps application at the bottom. It will show you the lock and the signal strength of the satellites. As already written, it may take some time to get the current position automatically displayed - see the favourite https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2878 . |
Re: European maps N810
pavlov0161, I've read on the forums about positioning your N810 to get the best/quickest gps fix. Try holding your N810 completely upright (so the power button on the top faces straight up) while holding it towards the south. When doing this, I've noticed I get a decent gps fix in about a minute when using either the N810's map application (from navicore/wayfinder) or maemo mapper.
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ight=gps+south And another note, you can delete the US/Canada maps from your device to free up space on your internal memory card. Open up the N810's file manager and click on "Internal memory card", click on map, then click mapdata_USA-West and delete it by clicking the trash can on the lower panel. Deleting "mapdata_USA-West" frees up over 700MB of storage on the card. If you don't want Canada-Alaska and USA-East you can delete those as well. I'd recommend making a backup to your computer before deleting just in case you decide you want/need them back on your N810. It also might be a good idea to format your internal memory card as some N810's had data corruption errors with the internal memory card. That might be what was originally causing your map download to fail. http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=18043 jbk |
Re: European maps N810
Thankyou again to you both for the good advice. Hopefully Ill be able to get a lock on when i give it a go tomorrow. Incidentaly do either of you know whether I can pick up TV channels on this device.
Thanks in advance. Lee |
Re: European maps N810
Check out this link for worldtv99. On that page there is a green arrow that states "click to install" - if you're on your N810 and you click that it should install it for you.
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/worldtv99/ Use it with kmplayer. jbk |

Re: European maps N810

Re: European maps N810
never, only if you keep it down people here are always willing to help and it gives space for learning and that is what i like in this forums,

Re: European maps N810
Yet again I have a quick question. Can the predictive words on the bottom when writing an email be taken off, its just that I tend to sometimes use expletives in my emails and this is being picked up when others ore using the machine.

Re: European maps N810
iirc, go to control panel, text input settings, languages tab, settings button for language of choice, uncheck "word completion".
