Big Bang Theory (TV sitcom)

Let's talk about this funny show Big Bang Theory. I think it one of the funniest shows on TV currently. Is it shown outside of the US?

How many of you actually have a friend or colleague like Shelden? or have a Halo night?

I too love Big Bang Theory. Probably because I was (am) a nerd. I also can relate to the "Chuck" sitcom. As a teenager, my big dream was to work at a Radio Shack store.

Yes, I enjoy Big Bang Theory as well. (and, Chuck, too).

Was that a dream or a nightmare? ;)

I worked at Radio Shack for a while... I remember the work crews in my store, installing neon accent lighting that proclaimed Radio Shack as "the technology store". Yes, I remember looking up in the midst of filling out hand-written sales receipts and wondering when the workers would finish the installation of our new neon sign...

Speaking of Radio Shack, I think they made a huge mistake when they stopped giving out catalogs at the store. I could look up parts at home before going down to buy. Also the new catalog sat there on the table, tempting me to go down and look at the latest gagets!

I think the show has potential, but the timing on it seems forced and awkward to me. But if a show is given enough time those things tend to self-correct.

One of the best sitcoms to come out in awhile! Never miss a show! Sheldon oddly reminds me of General Antilles :) Hope he doesn't take offense to that...

Great show, too bad they (CBS) censor stuff. As you might already know Chuck Lorre also does another "little" show Two and a half men.
Speaking of sitcoms, I've had high hopes for How I met your mother, but I think they lost their cool past season 2. :(

What's censored on Big Bang?

briand 2008-11-05 14:37

Re: Big Bang Theory (TV sitcom)

...this week, there was a big "CENSORED" on the slate at the end of the show. You need to either a) read very, very quickly most of the time, or b) record the show so that you can 'pause' and read the screen -- it only displays for about a second.

when it's censored he usually writes "you know where to look"

umm... no, I don't know where to look. :( does anybody here know?

Yes it is going down hill. Its definetly one of Neil Patrick Harris's better roles. He was awesome in Harold and Kumar go to white castle too!

I really like Big Bang Theory. We've had season 1 here in the UK, still waiting for season 2 (and of Chuck) . I know I could bittorrent them, but I like to wait. Every time I hear it, I think that the title tune would made a good ring tone :p

Briand,
All the censored ones that I've read have the link right below the post to go to the censored page.

My bad...you needed the page to his vanity card posts. Sorry lack of sleep.

How well does the show relate culturally? Is geek culture the same in the UK as it is in the USA?

I will look for Big Bang Theory. I recently discovered the fantastic series Weeds -- I only watch what I can run on demand on my computer.

I rather like The Big Bang Theory.. but I really, profoundly prefer the geek humor in The IR Crowd. Which, maybe answers your question in a veiled way. Around my circles, The IT Crowd is a MUCH bigger hit but most of my friends are open-source nuts, have had the experience of doing help desk or phone support and most of them live in or had lived around Silicon Valley. :)

believe it or not... this is me in my Halloween costume. I guess I'm the one like Sheldon. Although I do have a girlfriend at least!

here's another photo. the wig is fake, but the doppler effect is still there!

By the way, for those of you wondering, I DID use the following quotes from the show:
"I'll give you a hint: niiioouuuuum"
"I don't care if nobody gets it, I'm still going as the Doppler effect"
I am "The most accurate visualization of a scientific principle"
"It's the apparent change in the frequency of the wave caused by relative motion between the source of the wave and the observer"

P.S. I am going to a "science" college, so most of the students actually got the costume (either after I explained it, or they watch the big bang theory also). Oh, I DID win first prize in the costume contest, and a good number of chocolates from various physics' teachers :D

It's definitely American, the culture is quite different. as dan said, the IT Crowd is much more like UK. The biggest difference between US and UK is probably around the comics; it's much more of a niche thing over here. But a geek is a geek is a geek, regardless of where his(/her?) interests lie.
