Strange Screen Problem - N800
Hi everyone,
Unfortunately my first post on ITT is a "problem" post. 15 days ago, very randomly, the bottom of my screen started flickering. Not till about 5 days ago I realized what the flickering image was. The top part of the screen is overlaying itself onto the bottom half of the screen. The touchscreen still kinda responds to the position of the buttons on the original lower half, but it's generally not usable at all. Sometimes when the screen comes out of sleep mode, it's normal for about 5 seconds and then the more I try to use it, the more it flickers. I've called Nokia for help with the problem. He has me restore it to original settings. When that didn't work, he said he could sell me a new N800 for 219$ and denied warranty. Anyways, below is a screenshot of what the screen looks like. It was hard to get a good picture of it as it is constantly flickering and jumping. http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/PICT0637.jpg Maybe it's just silly to fix the n800...as used ones are available on eBay for less than 100$! |
Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800
how long have you had the n800? you should have a 1 year warranty on it..don't see why it would be denied unless you've had it for longer?

Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800
I am having the same problem. My N800 (two years old) started doing this just after I did the latest upgrade. I have founded if I startup an application before the desktop goes crazy then the problem will not develop (as of now).
will post any changes. |
Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800
Same problem here. It looks like a hardware problem, but I will try to reflash the device cos I don't know what else to try.

Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800
I had a similar problem. The left third was duplicated over itself and was flickering. Troubleshooting found a bad line on the video cable. Costs more than $300 to replace. Replaced my N800 with a unit from e-bay.

Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800
My screen rolls all the time now. :( I found a temporary fix, raising the temperature of the unit by putting my N800 on a heater, that makes it good as new for about 10 mins.
Nokia please hurry and release the next Nxxx. |

Have you tried another battery? Does it occur more or less when you are running it while connected to the charger? |

I tried changing battery but to no avail, screen will roll when unit is cold. Eventually, it stops, but it's all quite unpredictable.

Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800
I tend to agree that it's broken. The thread you indicate shows that it's possible to buy a new screen and replace it diy, however, aren't we close to the release of the next gen NIT? the N9XX or whatever it is going to be branded? I tried to look for a release date, but nobody knows anything, seems like.

Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800
Yes, it's not too difficult to change, you just need a small flat screwdriver to remove the front plate and a torx 6 for the screen assembly.
It's up to you to decide if it's worth it. |
Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800
Just placed an order for a new screen. We'll see how it goes. I'll post the results here.

Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800
My screen started having problems as a row of white pixels along the top of the screen. Within a week I was getting jagged steaks of white and gray going form the top down. I then got a 1/3 shift right double image, except in full screen mode. Now it has screen shift and full screen snow. Sent it into Nokia repair, bought new 2-13-08, and they say it is out of warranty (I sent in copy of original invoice with date). I have yet to receive an answer as to why it is out of warranty. Nokia has had it since the 13th.
1-21-09 Nokia finally explained why my N800 was "out of warranty" I bought my N800 from Amazon and they don't put serial #s on their receipts. So they go buy date of manufacture. Anyway they are replacing the screen for $108.00 including shipping. 1-30-09 Got my N800 back yesterday, same serial # but looks and works as if brand new. |
Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800
Screen arrived yesterday. I am very happy to announce it fixed the problem (rolling screen).
Tip: use quality torx drivers during disassembly. I butchered the screws with low grqde ones. |
