EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
This is mostly a minor update but I included a few enhancements and I have updated the associations to keep up with those i have in dbus-switchboard (openoffice, antiword->pdf, gpx files, timidity, fbreader, and my ext2 and ext2b mount/run/unmount commands).
Configuration screen is fullscreen and space is used better within that screen, for easier configuration. Version 0.5.0 .deb file (tested only on diablo) can be found here : http://wardenclyffetower.com/MaemoFi...-rev29.all.deb It is also available on my repo at : Web address : http://wardenclyffetower.com/maemo Distribution : chinook Components : user Let me know if you run into any issues with this release. |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
thanks! one thing: was wondering today how to open a file with a specific application? the file i want is a .puz file with Xword.

Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
Right click on the file and choose 'Edit filetype...' (you might have to scroll menu if option is not visible... its the last option in the menu)
Then, in the edit filetypes screen click on the left list and then click the 'add' button to insert an empty record at the bottom... scroll down and click on it (its called 'new') and you can give it a name like 'xword'... once you have typed that in click on another item in the same list above it so that the change 'sticks'. (All the lists on this screen have that same quirkiness you have to select another item in the same list to save your changes.) Then go into the middle list and highlight the empty list and click 'add' and type in the extension puz and then (once again) click on an empty area in the same list so that the extension sticks. Then go into the right list, hightlight it and click 'add', the new record has two parts... the name on the left half of that list is what is displayed in the menu so type in 'Open in xword' in that half of the list, then click to the right to enter the command... just type in 'xword' (no quotes) and see if that works... click on an empty area within that same list to make the settings stick and then click 'Apply' or the far right button which is only halfway visible... 'Complete?' Then go back to the file list and right click on your file and your new association should appear... if problems occur you can view the attempted command line in the output window. If you need to reformat the parameter you can change the launch command to 'xword %p' or 'xword %f' in the right half of the third list in the edit filetypes screen. This area is a pretty quirky but once you figure it out its easy to repeat... if i get some time i might try to work with the author to fix the lost focus issues where changes are lost if you dont click on another entry in the list. |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
one thing i can say that i dont like, and ive never had any problem with this program before (excellent) , is that can you get rid of the full screen dialog boxes for delete, rename, etc confirmations? .... very annoying
|
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
hey munky...
yea i noticed those dialogs, and although they don't bug me alot, i do prefer them less than old style confirmations. I didn't change those so those are the upstream author's changes, but i will look into seeing what he did and maybe revert to the old way if its straightforward. I keep old builds of emelfm2 on my website so if it bugs you alot you can go back to 0.4.1. My Emelfm2 builds are kept here. |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
Thanks! i think i will revert, as i dont see any change since the update for the better and i never had any issue before. but yeah...just dont like the fullscreen things, i feel the same way about Omweather, but i dont think the developer has any intention of getting rid of the fullscreen popups on that
edit: just so i understand the previous build is the 0.4.1 for chinook that is on your site... i thought one had been released previously for diablo before this. |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
Chinook builds always worked on diablo, so use that... this is direct link to older 0.4.1 deb :

Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
Thanks for the new update, pipeline!

Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
thanks a lot pipeline, a great software!

Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
My emelfm2 crashes now--more accurate is "stalls", after which I need to pull the battery out. I think this is because I tried to navigate to a folder that has a ton of files in it, and emelfm2 can't deal with it.
I wonder, is there a config file that tells emelfm2 which folders to show upon immediate startup of the app? If I could just get it to show some other folder, I think it wouldn't crash. Sorry if this is confusing. But I miss using this app. |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
If that is the problem, then either one of these two things will work:
1) Wait for Emel to load the directory 2) If 1 doesn't work, edit /home/user/.config/emelfm2/cache and change the lines pane1=[some dir] and pane2=[some other dir] to something else. |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
No dice. I replaced every instance of "/home/user/.config/feedcircuit..." with "/home/user" and then check to make sure the changes too with vi. Yup, they took. Cache file no longer has "feedcircuit" in there anywhere.
But I open up emelfm2 and the url for the leftside pane is: /home/user/.config/feedcircuit... Any other ideas? |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
reinstall is one way.
The other way would be to delete the /home/user/.config/emelfm2/cache file and edit the config-en_US file to make sure that directory is not specified anywhere. If you run into this problem running it as root, then the files to edit are in /root/.config/emelfm2 |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
Yes, I am running as root! Perfect! Thanks!
....nope, didn't work. that root config file is totally empty. And I didn't see anything in config-en_US. I would have just uninstalled, but it's been my experience that config files get left behind. Guess I could delete them, eh? and then reinstall. I'll give that a try. Thanks much. |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
I deleted all config files, uninstalled, and reinstalled. All's good now.
Thanks for the help. I would not have known that there is a root config at /root/.config |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
Thanks, i just verified that my version 0.5.0 install does infact remove the config files but not the cache files... i guess i should remove those too.
Now that its working why dont you check out the /var/lib/dpkg/info directory! Just Kidding... dont bother :) Although its very useful for checking out issues like this it takes a long time to load even through openssh. |

Hola Pipeline, While this thread is active, I was hoping to jump in and ask about something that happens to me when I run emelfm2 from root. After entering the command xterm reports: Quote:
xterm repeats ^ that about 40 times before opening emelfm2. I'll take a wild guess :p and figure '/usr/share/icons/hicolor/icon-theme.cache' has something to do with it but what, I don't know. Why does emelfm2 concern itself with '/usr/share/icons/hicolor/icon-theme.cache' all of a sudden? |

Well the GLIB WARNING # has changed to 22166 but I still get the same text (about 40 times) before emelfm2 loads. :( |
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
I have somewhat newbie question about EmelFM - How do I "right click" in N810, to get access to launching plugins and other options..
|
Re: EmelFM2 0.5.0 Release Notes
Use the Menu key ;)

40 times huh... sounds like maybe the button icons? Does emelfm2's toolbars look ok? Sorry hard to tell with this, maybe a corrupt icon-theme.cache file? Mine is around 8 megs, last updated a week ago and has permissions rw-r--r-- and owned by root. You could see if anything looks weird with your copy. |

Find plugin quits when I do a search, and the UI is bunched:
