Gaim 1.5 for Maemo

I'd like to know how Gaim works with Maemo. Can you log on and then switch to another application? Will it prompt you that someone has sent you a message if you are on a different application?
Thanks. |
I'll check it out! I tried the eearlier, "ugly" version, and it worked pretty smoothly.
|
Speaking of IM clients, can anyone with a Nokia 770 test this site out, via the Opera browser, and see if it works:
http://www.meebo.com No java involved. The site was created using the Ajax technology. Thanks. |
Doing it now, what would you like me to test out for you?
BTW, I cannot find a download for the GAIM 1.5 anywhere...? |
"Browser not support, stay tuned!"... :(
|
Site testing...
If opera doesn't work, perhaps it does with Manaos http://www.indt.org.br/10le/manaos/
It should work as manaos is minimo for maemo, minimo being tuned down version of mozilla. |
Oh, I forgot about the other browser. I have it installed, but do not have my tablet with me right now, will check this later for you.
|
I installed GAIM and entered my AOL IM information. When I try to connect it says "Cannot connect to host". Does anyone know what this means?
|
How?

Just recently added GAIM to n770 and put some of my existing buddies on the buddy list however they don't show up as online when they are. If I add them while they are online then they show up. My question is how do you delete people on your buddy list? I looked every where but maybe I'm missing something.
Thanks, Paul |
Mine work just fine but I can not close the application I have to kill the application.
|
(Bump) Still trying to find out how to delete buddies from the buddy list.
Thanks |
Dont think theres an option to delete a buddy in maemo gaim. Use an AIM client on a computer instead. The buddys list info is stored on AIMS servers so any client should work.
|
If your buddies are not online or at least are not showing up as online you have to enable that offline buddies are shown.
To do that start gaim, connect to aim/icq. Go to the Gaim menu - Buddies - Show offline Buddies. Double tap a buddie as if you wanted to start a conversation with him/her. Now you have the chat window opened. Go to the Gaim Conversation menu. Select Conversation - Remove. And you just removed the buddie from your buddie list. |
Hi,
the installation Package is not running on my 770 2006 Nokia PHP Code:
I throw the part soon into the corner    Fidibus |
Fidibus, you have to look for packages with *armel.deb extension, due to the diversity in binaries from IT 2055 and IT2006. BTW, it has not been Nokia related and for this reason packages (probably) will be compatible from IT2006 to (an eventual) IT 2007

Hi,
i found the gaim Link - is it the right GAIM Version for the Nokia 770 2006 ? http://maemo-hackers.org/apt/pool/main/m/maemo-gaim/ Download the tar-File - and now ???????????????????? Fidibus |

To close the Gaim Application, you have to go to Gaim \ Buddies \ Sign off. This will sign you off of the Gaim Application. The Wifi connection will still be active. |
Fidibus,
Why aren't you using the Application Manager to install Gaim? |
Hi BanditRider,
because I would like to understand the Nokia 770 2006 and Linux as a Linux Newbie: Quote:

You need to learn about repositories.
Might I suggest the repository page in the maemo.org wiki: http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationRepositories |
Re: Gaim 1.5 for Maemo
Has anyone managed to get the Gaim meanwhile (Sametime) client working in any environment? I can't, and could sure use some guidance...

If you're having problems on the 770 I'll check and see if I can connect from work tomorrow. Larry |
Re: Gaim 1.5 for Maemo
The 770 only, sorry for not making that clear. I had the server info and entered it, and have tried every possible configuration setting, but still cannot connect. Port settings are correct.

EDIT: This only worked the first time! As soon as I closed GAIM and re-opened it I was never able to login again. I deleted the account and changed options to no avail. Perhaps I'll see if I can recompile the 2.0 version... *** 1) From the command line as root I did: apt-get install maemo-gaim-protocol-jabber maemo-gaim-protocol-meanwhile maemo-gaim-data maemo-gaim 2) After the install start GAIM and select the meanwhile protocol for a new account 3) Enter your Notes login and password and optionally click the remember password box 4) Select the Protocol Options tab and enter the fully-qualified server name and verify the port is set correctly (my server uses the default of 1533) 5) Click the Hide client identity box 6) Click Save 7) Click Sign on I apologize if the instructions are pretty basic since I really didn't have to do anything special to make it work. Re: Gaim 1.5 for Maemo

|
Re: Gaim 1.5 for Maemo
I'm using it on N800 with the irc client right now and it's working perfect. I'll try MSN and AIM as well.
EDIT: Aim works for me as well. So does MSN. |
Re: Gaim 1.5 for Maemo
Wonder if I should uninstall and reinstall?
|
Re: Gaim 1.5 for Maemo
Could it be a wifi router problem? Have you tested it with GPRS?
