Cellular phones with a wireless router built-in!! ! !
HELLO ALL..
I am a prod owner off a N810 for the past 2 years. Today I was out looking for a phone I could pair with my tablet. I was SHOCKED to found out that sprint had a phone that becames a wireless router. The guy at the desk let me tried his phone. He enabled this feature on his phone and gave me his wep key. There was no paring of any kind....once I was online, i verfied the speed. I loaded like 2 pages in a few seconds....i also loaded Canola and loaded internet radio....AND IT WORKED. The phone was a HTC TOUCH PRO.....with a 300 dollar price tag....with a 100 + monthly plan....this is too MUCH! I also went to at&t...were I was told that a 3G phone wasn't really 3G. A 3G phone is built on the edge system and then sometimes it uses the 3G network. At&t has 2 true 3G phones....the Blackberry Bold and the HTC Fuze. |

The Symbian app zehjotkah referred to has been available for Nokia phones for a good year if not more. The last time I saw E51 (one of the recent but more affordable Nokia phones) online it was a little over $200. 5800 and E71 can both run Joikuspot.
For more info I'd strongly advise you to check some Nokia/Symbian60 forums. |
Re: Cellular phones with a wireless router built-in!! ! !
Joikuspot premium works a treat. I took it here. You can use the light version, too, free of charge, with some limitations (some ports blocked, mainly).

Using both the WLAN and 3G on a mobile phone is a pretty good way to drain the battery dry very fast though, you're better off using bluetooth on my experience at least with Nokia phones (E51).

Re: Cellular phones with a wireless router built-in!! ! !
Joikuspot seems to provide faster speeds than bluetooth, I agree about the battery drain though.

My wife is complaining AT&T not working in some part off Georgia....but Sprint is kicking azz any where she goes. So am thinking about a HTC Touch Pro with Sprint...only because it is cheaper with $100 rebate. |

funny thing is that within a couple of years, bluetooth and wifi may well cooperate to do this automatically:

DO i HAVE to pay Sprint or AT&T an extra $30 or $60 which will allow the phone to tether before using any off these sites. Or does the phone simply needs to able to go online? Maybe I only need a voice plan on my phone? |
Re: Cellular phones with a wireless router built-in!! ! !
After doing some reading recently on howardforums.com, I found the consensus to be that you cannot activate a "smartphone" without a data plan.

Yeah, our 'cousins' get screwed by the carriers. We don't realise how lucky we are in Europe.
I can leave the NIT connected to my E90's DUN all day (as long as both are on a charger!!) without paying any extra. Very useful at work, where we are afflicted with *spit* Websense on our desktops. (Unless you just happen to find out which proxy connection is almost unrestricted on the work LAN...) |

I would prefer this (which is also very small): http://www.slashgear.com/huawei-i-mo...-wifi-1334150/

I was trying to find out if these softwares requires a data plan to work? Or does the phone only needs to be online? |

Ok, Blackberry devices....
My wife would like to get a Blackberry smartphone, is there anything out there that will turn it into a walking HOTSPOT? Thanks. |
Re: Cellular phones with a wireless router built-in!! ! !
Anybody using a Blackberry as a wireless modem?
If so how? And what is required? |
Re: Cellular phones with a wireless router built-in!! ! !
All.
I got my phone...Finally... it's a HTC Touch Pro on Sprint with everything data and voice. I'll start trying out the various softwares as wireless routers. I will then cancel my data plan next month and c which ones work. currently am using internet sharing for WM 6.1...which is GREAT. am guessing know which one of these softwares work without a data plan??? |
Re: Cellular phones with a wireless router built-in!! ! !
I don't think any of them would work without a data plan how would the phone access the internet without it.??
