A Stocks application for Maemo

3 Attachment(s)
Hi. How are you?

I have written a simple stocks application for Maemo today (it gets data from Yahoo Finance) and I would like name it with some cool name.

I have thought it would be nice if the community help me to name it, and so I haven't to think too much.

So, this poll is for this with some suggested names for the awesome IRC guys ;)
If you would like suggest another name, feel free to do it.

Also, if someone with garphics skills has some free time and would like create a logo for the application, it would be very cool. Or else, some suggestion for a free (as freedom) logo.

Thanks.

The applicaction will be available in Extras when it has some cool namechosen.
Some screenshots of the application:

I've got three possible names depending on your outlook:

-Bubbles
-BottomsUp
-Markativity

Edit: I'm doing fine...

BTW, thanks for asking. :)

I voted for Crisis, but this actually has a nice ring to it.

What, there's something dirty-sounding about PocketStocks?

Anything else than something which includes "py".

Developers call their programs too often in "pyProgram" or "QTProgam" fashion. Users don't care or shouldn't need to care what programming language or library was used for developing.

How about 'I am up a teeny bit at last' ?
Thats how I would like to be, sxi if the name gives me that feel-goodness, fine with me :-)

I voted for StockThis though I liked the Crisis name - but give me a more positive name (or even better an app which beats my deadbeat sense of investing).

I love this one. In case the development will fork there can be a green and a yellow branch.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

It seems that StockThis is the most voted, and so it will be ;)

I have to fix a couple of bugs on it before to be released. Stay tuned.

Edit: And congrats to man_in_ltop from IRC, this was one of the names he suggested. Sorry, there isn't prize.

Re: A Stocks application for Maemo

I have promoted the application to Extras some day in this week, so it should be available in your application manager.

It has some of the most important markets indexes, but more are coming. It's the task more manually done and it's being time complete it. If you want some specific one, ask that.

Some features to be added in future versions:
* It should list the markets for countries. I think it's better this way.
* It will have a favorites system where you can follow the quotes from your favorites components.

Also, I have used those names: markets, components, quotes, etc. I don't know if those are the more correct ones. I have a very lighter knowledge of English, so those terms could not be appropriate in this context.

Btw, I have done a silly icon for this version, but could use I some of those posted icons for the next ones?

I agree, except when it allows for a pun in the name, as in "CherryPy" or such.

I came to the thread too late, but in this case I would have suggested a variant of one of the proposed names : StockPyle...

Gotta love StockPyle. Too bad the name is already chosen.

If you mean my post...
Yes, no problem. Thanks for doing all the real work. Let me know if you could use any other icons.

I just try it, working well. What I want to see in the future is the ability to enter my own stock portfolio and refresh automatically . Thanks for the program. Good job.

Re: A Stocks application for Maemo

Thank you, the application works great!
It would be great if you could add the German stock index DAX.
And is it possible to keep the chart of current period be displayed until the new chart is downloaded (so without the "Loading" in betweeen) when I change the periods?

bousch 2009-05-17 21:44

Re: A Stocks application for Maemo

Yerga, great little application, but your percent change calculation is not correct. Now it is 100*change/last trade but it should be 100 * change/(last_trade-change).

Yes, DAX it's in the todo list.
About the chart thing, if I find some nice way to show that the chart has changed with some notification or something, it could be done but it's low in the list though.

Hi,

I noticed that your getting your data from yahoo. If I were to create a yahoo finance portfolio to follow certain stocks could I access those individual stocks using your application?

That would be great feature for alot of people.

The data got from Yahoo it's external. It doesn't authenticate with your Yahoo account.

But the idea is have a portfolio section in the application where you can follow easily your favorites instruments and companies. It will be coming in a future version, I think before to the final of the crisis ;)

Any updates on this application ? I am eagerly looking forward to this app to be able to create/edit and track my portfolio.

Another feature I would look forward to is a list of movers and losers (% wise or volume wise) as on any day.

Nice app and thanks once again for this.

Sorry, don't much action lately. I am just in my exams month and I have very little spare time for the hobbies. Probably July will be a better month for a new release with the portfolio feature.

Also, I started to experiment with home widgets, and a widget will be done too.

I need a stock app that simply access/imports my Google Finance portfolio.
Any of these apps has this ability?
