Nope. Do YOU know what it says? Where did you get it from?

Re: What does my avatar say?

yes avatars are very small and hard to decipher.

Re: What does my avatar say?

I made it by hand it shouldn't be that hard to figure out if you take a good look at it.

Well, I've just saved a copy and opened it up in a photo viewer, and zoomed right in, and there is not enough detail to work out what is written.

A really blurry blob of something? It is not legible at that size.

. . . and, yet, I've yet to see anybody file a feature request against Newstyle.

Re: What does my avatar say?

I can't even log in to the maemo.org website most of the time when using http:// (the login box in the upper right doesn't seem to work, but when I change to https:// I'm magically logged in ... or try going there when not logged in and clicking on an up-thumb in planet maemo...), and I haven't bothered to file any bug reports. I keep hoping someone with more interest in bugzilla will have the same problem. I can't be the only one, can I?

So if I'm that lazy, I'm certainly not going to file a feature request for a bigger avatar.

Re: What does my avatar say?

bug reports are filed at http://bugs.maemo.org and I don't think there are logging problems there. Please do it, you have a point.

There are, actually, (several, too lazy to dig up bug numbers, though—sjgadsby! sjgadsby! sjgadsby!) pick whichever matches your experience and add your comments there.

[rant/troll warning]

Come on, people. We went from 60x60 to 50x50. you wouldn't be able to decipher a full 800x480 screen of text at 60x60 either. how about 70x70 avatars? or even 80x80? would you be happy then? granted, it's a small number of pixels with which to express your identity, but nobody complained before the layout change.

so popular these days to criticize the new layout... imo, it's different, not worse. quit whining.

EDIT: i guess that's a bit of an overreaction... possibly in the wrong thread... i just wanted to get that off my chest.

Re: What does my avatar say?

You know what it is? Reporting bugs into a formal bug system feels like a police interrogation. You have to report every detail you can think of, you get hassled if you didn't report something properly, and most of the time the problem doesn't get addressed to your satisfaction. It is a bit of a mystery why bug reporting is so much trouble when the system is supposedly supposed to be for volunteers to help developers. You would probably want to help make the experience as pleasant as possible for the volunteers, no?

So, I'll report big, terrible bugs if someone hasn't already done it. But if I can work around the problem (and when I log in to maemo.org, I can work around it by logging in and then manually changing the "http://" to "https://") I'm not going to drag my lazy body over that high threshold. If nobody else is reporting it, it is either something I'm doing wrong or something that is limited to a small subset of people.

And feature requests are the same. Sure, I miss the bigger avatars. But do I miss it enough to make a bug report and then receive endless chatter in my inbox from people arguing about whether this is a valid bug, what status the bug should be set to, or whether the bug should be marked "wontfix" or left as "super-low priority"?

No.

Ignorance is one thing, but if you're declaring your intention to not file bugs, then you should be aware that you're also largely forfeiting your right to complain. :)

"I miss the big avatars" was more of a wistful, nostalgic, sad little comment than a "complaint".

I would never put that because I'm open minded to change and I don't try and force my options on other people.

Let's get real here, qole, and provide the full quote instead of putting your little "spin" on it:

A simple statement of the inability to reproduce (this is a reality with bugs, sometimes even bugs with more than enough information—which this bug clearly lacks—cannot be reproduced) and a clarification request. There is nothing hostile here.

Let's be sure not to confuse the normal bug process with "hostility", because hostile bug responses do happen sometimes and they are unfortunate, but sticking your little opinions on responses which are clearly both appropriate and non-hostile only helps to break down the process.

Qole, you are an educated and even illustrated person with good knowledge of English. Can you please detail what is hostile here:

The "bugcatcher" is called Niels aka X-Fade. He is the webmaster of maemo.org, and the first community guy that was funded by Nokia to work full time for all of you. He works a lot and is very responsible. He actually does much more than what he is asked to do.

It's ok if jandmdickerson didn't know all this when commenting on his bug (that had been raised days before by others including myself, by the way). But Qole you are a council member and therefore you should be a reference bridging between the community and the maemo.org team (made by comunity members, let me insist).

Re: What does my avatar say?

I was merely adding humor to my post. The bugcatcher has always been professional and helpful to me. My bad-- I forgot to use my humor icon :D

I took it as qole was being playful and fun also. This is why I have come here for 2 years--it is fun. On a side note, I have also learned to understand GA. If you read his words and hear Spock (non-emotional) speaking the words in your mind then his comments will seems completely polite and helpful and never short. But beware it may be Pon Far time :D

Wow I thought I had good knowledge of english, but I had never heard of an "illustrated person" does this mean well decorated or adorned?

I don't think is a common american english expression. Please correct me if I am wrong.
