What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
I'm starting to look at bringing 'application' packages into Mer from Extras...
I'm starting with the gpe apps ('cos I want them)... Which ones would you like to see there? Also, if you have your own application in Extras for Diablo (or want to port one) then I'd be extra happy to help you out and get things going... Just to set expectations though - I don't expect to have these apps compiled any time soon. If they do compile they'll probably crash. If they don't crash they probably won't look very good and may have usage issues. The idea is to look for common build problems and start sorting them out and maybe introduce people to OBS. For rapid follow-up, come to #mer or #maemo |
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
By "Extras" you mean those apps that are in the "maemo Extras" repository?
In order of importance to me, I'd like: Fbreader gpodder mplayer maemo-mapper canola load-applet I see that emelfm2 and Panucci are not in Extras, but I'd put those into my most desired apps. Also .ogg support for mplayer Thanks! |
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
I don't know if they're there already (I don't think so) but I'd like to see the python hildon bindings made available on Mer; then I could port my applications :)
|
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
@ GeraldKo
load-applet is already available (and, in fact, preinstalled). :) |

Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
The applications I use on a regular basis are fbreader, pidgin, canola, mplayer and gpe calendar. If those were available mer would be ready to take over from maemo for me
|
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
Feed circuit, feed circuit, feed circuit. Although, if it'd help, i can email the author directly. (at least i think fc is in extras. travelling now and can't check)
|
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
For me the most important apps are:
- Tear - Canola - Fbreader - Mplayer - Claws Mail - Large Statusbar Clock - OMWeather - Yellownotes applet (not in Extras) - The gpe stuff (calendar, todo, contacts, status applet) - Internet Radio applet I guess once Mer is less rough around the edges and once these apps are available on Mer I will abaondon Maemo. Also it would be nice to have: - Gnumeric - ATI85 - StarDict - Personal Menu (or some similar functionality for quick access to frequently used apps) - Some SIP capable phone software (doesn't have to be the one delivered with Maemo) |
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
For me the top priority list (in order of priority) right now would be:
GPE maemo-mapper + AGPS mplayer FBReader Xournal StartDict |
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
Xournal, FBreader, Modest (not really extras, I guess) and Tear.
I could wait a few versions for everything else. |
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
1. rapier
(in order of priority) |
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
Omweater, large statusbar clock cause I am OCD like that. Not really. Mediabox for video and music cause vlc doesn't work. it freezes indefinitely causing to pull battery to reboot. Maemo mapper is in the mer repo but doesn't work. It would be nice if it did, even if it was just for the maps since I am guessing the gps software is nokia non-free whatever. A port of dosbox and rubybox would be nice too.
|
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
Once sound and gstreamer or mplayer will work on Mer, I'm surely going to try to get MediaBox run fine on Mer.
|
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
aren't the apps in fremantle extras-devel the more compatible with Mer ?
|
Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
Thanks for the response... building a list... :)
Canola: source isn't in extras... I need a .dsc .... anyone? Maemo-mapper: uses nokia binaries for gps... not low-hanging enough yet. Stskeeps has hacked at it though mplayer: patent issues on our build-service... we'll find a workaround eventually @GeraldKo emelfm2 and Panucci gat me a .dsc and tarballs :) @ekul, iskarion, grog gpe stuff is all there.... except calendar ... grrr. Soon. @everyone noted BTW, if people link to a .dsc (with corresponding source) it makes my life a *lot* easier and you go straight to the top of the queue. This is because it's not always as easy as you'd think to find that sucker!! GPE: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9614128...7617564875139/ ('cos I want it ;) ) |

Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
To swap to Mer I'd need working:
1) GPE + GPE summary (or functional equivalent) 2) Xournal I'd also really like 3) Mplayer or vlc |

Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer?
I have been able to successfully start MediaBox SVN version on Mer 0.12. The UI works quite well, but animations don't look as fluent as on Diablo. Also the Nokia Sans Cn font is missing, of course, so the fonts are a bit different.
Browsing the file system and UPnP shares worked fine. With libxine, I think, we're not far away from audio and video when Mer will have audio. :) |

Re: What Extras applications would you like to see in Mer? (Status report)
So, I've been through all the posts :)
Installed as Standard openssh Just run Installation Manager gpe (whole suite) gpodder Large Statusbar Clock (nb not tested yet, but mainly install and run) Actively being looked at canola maemo-mapper . .. (nokia gps issues) Fbreader .... (uploaded but broken depends on binary only liblinebreak... works on debian... is this in Universe?) Mediabox mplayer OMWeather . (uploaded, but broken depends on binary only liblocation) The rest won't be looked at until I get a source tarball and a .dsc file... sorry. Just not enough time in the day. If it matters to you then find the source&.dsc find me on #mer and I'll upload it in seconds (or post here and I'll notice eventually!) Need a name, source and .dsc Internet Radio applet Yellownotes applet (not in Extras) ... ATI85 All these are binary only uploads on http://repository.maemo.org/extras/pool/diablo/free If you know where the source is, let me know. No Source Xournal Tear rapier pidgin Feed circuit Claws Mail StartDict Modest GRAMPS Gnumeric Mauku VNC Viewer Please help out by finding the .dsc/source  |

I'm going to try the 0.13 image and see what happens. I have also uploaded the source code of my D-Bus-Xine service to https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_id=355 so you can try to compile it for Mer. |
