light weight maemo.org version for viewing in MicroB

Hi there,

is there a lightweight version of maemo.org like http://m.maemo.org/ ? For sure MicroB displays the full version, too. But I prefer to visit the lighter mobile/PDA versions of website with my N810. Loading pages is just faster - in particular, when the connection is slow.

cheers.

With regards to Talk, there is one being made. See: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=28631

As for other parts of maemo.org, most of the sections that usually change have RSS feeds.

No. One of the goals of the redesign was to make the standard site work well on the tablets. There was some discussion of making an alternate, "mobile" version of the site for the tablets, but it was decided that maemo.org should show by example that web sites need not have special, alternate versions to work with on-tablet browsers.

For talk.maemo.org though, you will soon have the Minimalist theme available to you.

If you scroll all the way to the bottom, you can select from the "talk.maemo.org" drop down box, and select the minimalistic theme, which is very light, but not completely full featured.

One of the reasons why I prefer the Minimalistic version of the site on the tablet was because the Search function was buggy. It still is. With the drop-down box feature that is used, when you click on the text box, the search box disappears, making searches unavailable.

The big giant white box up next to the login form doesn't work?

You're writing of the old InternetTabletTalk theme, not maemo.org or even the new talk.maemo.org theme. The original poster asked about maemo.org.

That's a noble goal to be sure, and also a refreshing approach. The result isn't quite bulletproof yet, however : on many tablets (including mine) the right sidebar end up by itself at the top of the page, causing a great deal of scrolling down before getting at any content, and reducing usability accordingly.

That would include ItT/Talk nowadays, if it weren't for Minimalist.

Don't set a minimum font size. ;)

Took an awful long time to see a bug filed on that one (which is just a heads up, if you want things fixed, you need to file a bug).

NLS's comment is still applicable to talk.maemo.org; try using the Search Dropdown.

That said, the search bar at the top-right of the page seems to replace this functionality. The only reason to use the search dropdown now would be to access advanced search functionality, which works fine (and always has).

The same still happens to me with the new theme.

Ah, I see. In a desktop browser, the "Search" button in the right column of talk.maemo.org opens a sub-menu when in threads, but in a tablet browser, that menu item just direct-links to the advanced search. I had not previously noticed that.

Regardless, the original poster wrote "maemo.org" not "talk.maemo.org". It's not clear that the poster was expressing a desire for an alternative to the new talk.maemo.org theme, though obviously, that's where this thread is being taken.

Unfortunately, at this time, the maemo.org/* pages do not support any type of theming including mobile-oriented ones.

But, I find the best bet is to subscribe to the many available RSS feeds, and catch up on the news that way.

Of course, that doesn't help you with Downloads, etc.

If you were specifically refering to talk.maemo.org though, then you can switch to the Minimalistic theme by using the dropdown menu at the far bottom-right of every page.

Welcome to Talk!

Addressed in my post above.

Silly me. I guess when I used that before it only searched through the maemo.org site and not the forums. Or at least I think I was assuming that's what it did because of the other Search function on the below "New Posts".

Yes, I'm aware that seems to be the root *cause*... but you're not telling me it's also the *fix*, are you ? :-)

That would be about as useful as "don't use maemo.org on the tablet" or "WONTFIX"... The setting is there for a reason, and it doesn't break my other favourite sites, so it's staying there...
