Bluetooth Phone
I am considering buying a Nokia 810. I have one question that the internet cannot seem to answer for me. When I have it connected to my cell phone via bluetooth, can I answer and make calls using it.

Re: Bluetooth Phone
bluetooth lets you access files on the phone via the file manager on the n810 and use your phone as a modem to access the internet. it does not bring phone functionality to yout n810, though. (except voip, if that counts.)
if your question was meant the other way round (i'm not sure if i read it correctly): you can still use your phone for voice calls no matter what the n810 is currently accessing it for. |
Re: Bluetooth Phone
yep, your phone will remain active for incoming calls etc. it does drain the battery though

Re: Bluetooth Phone
So there is no way what so ever to make calls from it using a connection to your cell phone?
|
Re: Bluetooth Phone
Well there is phonelink. But that just makes the tablet act as external numpad, the actual call still happens on the phone (tho with a bluetooth or wired handsfree, you do not need to get the actual phone out for the duration of the call).

Re: Bluetooth Phone
phonelink, yes... in case your phone is supported.
|
Re: Bluetooth Phone
seems to work with most phones in AT mode...

Re: Bluetooth Phone
I have an LG phone, so if i use phonelink and get a bluetooth headset connected to my phone. The 810 is essentially is the phone then, correct?

Re: Bluetooth Phone
It would probably be easier for the user (or at least more universally compatible) for someone to port the NoHands app. It would turn the N810 into an HFP handsfree device, allowing dialing to the phone, as well as serving as a "headset". I haven't tried NoHands yet, but it looks like what the OP was asking for, to me.
As for PhoneLink, that only works on non-crippled phones, so people in my situation (Telus, or similarly evil companies) likely won't be able to use it that way. |

To use your 810 to make cell phone calls would require some fancy BT streaming, both at the phone and at the 810. As others have stated, you can use VoIP through the 'modem' connection. I have an Asterisk PBX at my house, and my n800 connects to it whenever it's got a 'net connection, either WiFi or 3G, @home or out and about... |
Re: Bluetooth Phone
If i connect my phone via bluetooth. Have phonelink installed on the 810 and get a bluetooth headset for my phone. I can essentially make calls and such with the 810?

Re: Bluetooth Phone
You can setup your N8*0 as a what we called a mobile internet phone. You need to have a WiFi signal or good 3G signal from your cell phone to make it work. Your IT cannot be used as a headset at this moment until someone develops a software to make it work.
You can checkout what I said at here. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=28891 Phonelink actually can BT to your cell phone(some phones, not all of them work), to send and receive sms. It also can dial the phone number on your N8*0 and send it to your cell phone and make phone call, but the voice will go from your cell phone to your BT headset, not through the N8*0. |

Re: Bluetooth Phone
Righto. That was a wee bit confusing. With phonelink, or similar program, if i hook up the 810 to my cell phone with bluetooth. I can send and receive sms (txts?) and tell my phone to call someone (or answer a call?). All the sound and such will only be through the phone though, hence the need for a bluetooth headset for the phone. Or am I just not understanding this.

Re: Bluetooth Phone
that would be correct.

Re: Bluetooth Phone
Yes 100% on SMS, I use my N800 with phonelink to my W810i to text all the time.

Re: Bluetooth Phone
Right, last thing I do believe, how do I check if my phone is compatible or not?
|
Re: Bluetooth Phone

Re: Bluetooth Phone
Sure it's just the default I believe "AT", phone is Sony W810i. Phonelink works so well that I have decided to keep the phone and not upgrade, other than no keyboard for text is a great (small)phone.

Re: Bluetooth Phone

Re: Bluetooth Phone

Re: Bluetooth Phone
I'm having trouble getting it to work on my Samsung SCH-U900 (Flipshot). If anybody has any ideas, it would be grealty appreciated.
Using rfcomm 8 I can get it to see my phone. The problem with this is that whenever I make a call, it shows up as a data call (Modem @ 14.4k is what it shows, with Tx and Rx, and total bit/byte information). Then when I use to send an SMS, it does not send to the recipient. Thanks in advance. Edit: Posting this in the "phonlink" thread. Thanks. |
