Small change request

Could "Control Panel" be swapped for "Mark Forums Read"? I use the latter on every visit and the former never (well, maybe once).

I also use Mark Forums Read all the time, and Control Panel maybe twice a year. When FireFox has been up some days and grown to its usual multi-hundred-megabyte size it takes time to open that pull-down and find Mark Forums Read. All in all it takes much longer to wade through ItT than forums with a ready available Mark Forums Read.

Raising an enhancement request against Website > talk on bugzilla would be handy; but I don't have time right now.

What would people think of making "Today's Posts" the default launch screen for Talk?

Great question Tim.

Are there any people we can ask?

:D

I thought about that when they moved from itt to tmo ... because that's what i realized i didn't have the most recent posts any longer when i open the site.

but:

i think it's only the regulars (you know, us people who don't have a life and write several hundred posts about a device that isn't even announced :) ) who would benefit from this. and we can bookmark either
http://talk.maemo.org/search.php?do=getdaily
or
http://talk.maemo.org/search.php?do=getnew
instead of
http://talk.maemo.org/
according to our needs.

the others - new users we're still waiting to flood this forum once the thing is out - will probably prefer the more systematic layout we have now until they find their way around... don't you think so?

I agree with benny. Seems like it would be good for regular users, but perhaps not so much for new users.

I use Control Panel constantly. I subscribe to all the interesting threads and they show up in Control Panel when someone posts to them. I have the forum auto-subscribe me if I post in a thread, too.

I'm not sure if you've seen that "Mark Forums Read" is under "Quick Links".

Do you want it in the top level?

I think that's the point: anyone who regularly uses the "New Posts" feature wants to use it in conjunction with "Mark Forums Read". If there's resistance to moving "Control Panel" down, how about moving "Log Out" up to the header, alongside the username?

Frees up a slot and gives us "I want to see every thread, but not necessarily read it" addicts what we neeeeeeeed ;-)

Please no, I'm liking the new format of the talk site; please don't change it.

As for maemo.org/community that's another kettle/fish.

That's exactly it. Forums with that function readily available on the top level (not a pull-down menu) are much faster to go through. I read a number of forums every day and it makes a big difference in speed and convenience. Even more with FireFox, because when FF has been up some days it's acquired hundreds of megs or RAM, and it takes 10 seconds or more for me to open that pull-down menu when it's at the same time loading all the new-post pages which I'm loading in different tabs.
