a) How was it when you received it? Were you happy with the look, size and feel? Were you happy with the speed, functions? b) What were the first three things you did with it? :) |

Well I knew what it looked like from hours of googling. The size what also about what I expected, maybe a little heavier than I thought it would be (but then again, i can't read xx ounces or xx kg and have an idea of how much that actually weighs) It felt pretty good, tho the keyboard takes just a bit of getting used to. For a while, every time i hit space, it didn't register cuz i was hitting it too lightly. I'm over that problem now. as far as speed goes, i had an idea of what to expect, cuz i used to have a pc that was 400mhz with 128mb ram. And actually, based off that, it was faster and more responsive than i had expected. functions-wise, I had a good expectation going into it. i already knew what apps i wanted to try. also, the gps worked better than the people b*tching about it had made it out to be. b) Well i plugged it in, turned it on, and ran through the setup ;) But seriously.... hmmm... i got online. checked to see that i had the latest version of the os (which i did). enabled extras, and REALLY went nuts downloading apps. then i ran maemo mapper INSIDE and got a gps lock in about 5 or 6 minutes. later on, after i had charged the puppy up, i took it outside and got a fix in about a minute. i even went so far as to take it down the street on foot with the option selected that draws a line where u've been, and proceeded to walk in semi-circles, seeing if the device would keep up... it did. all in all, it's pretty neat. |

Re: Oh..the wait..........
I had it worse than you. My laptop's mobo was shot, so I was restricted to surfing the web on a PSP :"( I could only *poorly* read about it and look at pics.
The sh*tting out of my laptop was actually what made me discover the N810... strange how things work out. ///EDIT totally flash it. it couldn't hurt. |

Maybe we need to plan a N810 play-date if we got some South Bay users :) |

Latest update:
SAN JOSE, CA, US 06/15/2009 5:03 A.M. OUT FOR DELIVERY |
Re: Oh..the wait..........
Dunno if this will fit as consolation (it usually doesn't, but it doesn't hurt trying :D)
I live in Brazil and they were selling the N800 for BRL 400 for a short while. In Big Mac terms, it would be like they were selling it for $99. Some people waited 35 DAYS for theirs to arrive. Some people got a defective unit delivered after those same 35 days. More than two months waiting, and nothing :( Anyways, in the US things shouldn't be so bad. You'll forget all about the tension ur feeling when u have the little beast on your hands ;) |
Re: Oh..the wait..........
You're right.....
Now I'm mostly whining for buying a used-like-new for $190 when buy.com is selling brand new ones for $179 :( Then again, one thing about technology and prices I've come to learn is that you can't win them all :) |

I would not sell it back with that price even! |
Re: Oh..the wait..........
I've had the n800 for a while, then saw that the n810 was down to 199 on buy.com. But I knew I couldn't stand the wait (I was planning a trip to the city that weekend, and needed the "daytime readable" display & gps). So I drove down to TigerDirect and over-paid by $30 or so just to get it the instant I laid down money. Long story short, the display works about as I expected (great depending on the angle of the sun, terrible during overcast conditions), and the GPS seems to be giving me the same problems everyone else was having -- 2 hours trying to get a fix, no dice. Other times it works great. Seems to get a fix fairly quickly sitting on the dash of my car, but when out hiking (clear sky) it never gets a fix.
It's funny, how I can sit on a purchase decision for months at a time, but as soon as I fork over my credit card info I want it NOW. |
Re: Oh..the wait..........
I have an N800 which I think is pretty cool. I saw that buy.com had the N810 for $179, so I impulse-bought one yesterday. I opted for the free 5-9 day shipping. I see that it's now out for delivery (I'm in the SF South bay), so I will have it a day after I ordered it! Not bad for free shipping, and I didn't have the agonizing wait to endure. :D
