How to wifi transfer files from N800 to Windows PC?
 

I couldn't seem to find any results here (wifi/wireless/network keywords).

Instead of plugging the USB cable in it'd be cool if I could just drag/drop via the N800 onto say a shared Windows folder. How?

Maemo File manager used to show Windows shares ...
or you can go the scp route (if you have a ssh server at the other end : ok windows !)
or you can use bluetooth if yyour windows PC has it

Just do a shared windows folder as fredoll said, and make sure to check the "allow others to make changes to this folder" box. (I think it's a checkbox, I haven't done this in a long time). The nit will see it, I think you may have to restart the file manager window first, but that's it.

As a bonus, if I remember correctly I think you can view vids with very high bitrates without transcoding if you view them from the folder, (of course you lose some functionality).

Been so long I don't really remember but it's very easy to do.

Interestingly, I never noticed before that my N810 can see my DirecTV DVR's mediashare folders. It can't see any of the video files (recordings), but it can see all the folders. Time to head out to the DirecTV forum to see if their DTV to PC app can be made to work with Maemo....(I doubt it, but I've been surprised before).

For what it's worth, my Windows XP shares show up under File Manager at the bottom of the lefthand column under "Shared Folders". I never noticed them before because I needed to scroll down beyond the external memory card entry. Also note that it doesn't recurse the subfolders (if that's the right term) -- meaning that subfolders of the shared folder are not visible. You will only be able to see direct shares.

Well that was really easy to do - in fact I've done this before on the network, just not with the N800 - I thought there'd be some other steps. Thanks!

Install OpenSSH on your tablet and connect using FileZilla FTP client from windows. That's how I do it.

If you have bluetooth available on your PC, I find that method very easy and painless. It's my primary way to transfer things to and from the tablet as all of my PCs have bluetooth.

The tablet filemanager supports sending files to the PC this way. On the PC it varies but usually right clicking will give you an option to send a file to the tablet via bluetooth.

How about do some setup for 4 min, only once, and has your tablet appears as a harddrive on your winPC forever? Interested? here it is thread #8, or just openSSH + winscp

Ok,I just connected to my home network. I have a shared folder on my Windows XP Home PC.

Nothing shows on my NIT.

Can this be done without loading more programs on the PC or NIT?

That is the problem with share folder: unreliable. I have switched to openSSH+winscp for over a year, not once fail!

Shared folder support is definintely buggy (there are some gnome-vfs bugs about it in bugs.maemo.org), and as Nokia plans to drop Samba support for Fremantle this is an area where I don't expect fixes at all...
