Maemo Summit 2009 Merchandise Poll

Please select the 2 or 3 items that you'd definitely like to receive at Maemo Summit. Remember: We have a limited budget and would rather spend money on Summit events. Please don't select more than 3 items.

***This poll will remain active for 5 days.***

Thanks!
Tim

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 Merchandise Poll

Certainly a T-shirt, but also a record-bag kind of thing would be nice, as long as it's good quality (and there's the problem as this will cost more). Perhaps something to buy and have delivered later on.

I must admit I don't have much use for stickers or baseball caps (cricket hat perhaps ;)) and really branding USB sticks is a bit of a waste of money considering that they sit in your pocket for most of their lives and are so cheap that no-one really needs a freebie.

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 Merchandise Poll

Agreed. Most goodies/freebies are either useless or too cheap to use, and tend to get lost in drawers. USB sticks and other gadgets are a dime a dozen anyway.

What I expect from the summit is interesting content, meeting people, having a lot of fun... like last year. Bringing back an expensive or original present is not part of it.

What I need is a *souvenir*, something that will stay around for a while and remind me of that special occasion from time to time. T-shirts work just fine for this, as they can be used by all the family. Stickers are good too. So I guess same as last year would be good enough for me (especially as that new 'Timsamoff' brand is going to be a collector someday :-)

Someday?! :p

I do like the idea of a bag -- it was brought up before. But, I'm pretty sure they're cost prohibitive. Still, I'll try to find a vendor and see how much they'd be. So far, only one vote, though, so let's see if others like the idea.

Hey, if it was a DEVICE bag, I'd change my vote! :D

I like the idea of something that is actually useful to use -- definitely t-shirts, maybe even a baseball cap.

I get the impression many people outside the US don't "get" ball caps.

Every time I went to Finland, seems I was the only person wearing one... and got a lot of smirks because of it I think. :o

Seriously? Even with the global popularity of hip hop?

Maybe it's just me then :p

And I encountered zero hip hop in Helsinki. Mostly metal.

Finnish rock and metal is awesome. :D :D :D

Yeah, and note how the poor guy in the grey cap is called a nerd!

I think 10 people in Finland wear caps. Maybe 11.

Most of them like to show off their spiky blond hair.

Hmmm... Maybe we should be looking into these then! :D

A piece of merchandising I pushed for the Gran Canaria Desktop Summit and was quite well received: MicroSD USB adapter.

The piece itself costs 2,50€ (without card) and can be branded.

These things are brilliant, instant recycling of old cards as USB sticks and/or a good way of carrying spare cards without losing them. I've already got two of those on my keychain, but I wouldn't mind a Maemo-branded one too :-)

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 Merchandise Poll

I've yet to see one of those readers that doubles as a card *holder*, so you can carry 2-4 of those tiny chips along with it. Now *that* would be useful :-)

Frankly now ? I wouldn't be caught dead wearing one... :-)

No baseball caps!

Now if they had maemo.org straw hats, I would be very interested.

Yup, I'd dig that too - perfect for the Greek vacation :-)

Looks like baseball caps are "in the running," although budget will be the final determination.

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 Merchandise Poll

This poll is now closed... Unless there are any good arguments for something that wasn't (or was) presented here, the top three items (shirts, stickers, hats) are what we'll be looking at.

But, there's still time to argue your case for something else and provide prices, etc. If you care to do this, I'd love to hear.

Thanks for participating!

Squishy balls with gel and glitter in them. With Maemo logo of course.

Ooo prettty...

Time for decisions, final designs, agreement with providers...

Any recommendation for merchandising folks in the Netherlands?

qgil 2009-09-06 18:53

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 Merchandise Poll

Ping!

We need final designs for shirts and stickers.

Also, what are the sizes of shirts we have got until now in the registration? We will need to extrapolate from that.

And we need to find someone producing all this merchandising in the Netherlands.

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 Merchandise Poll

We need another poll for the designs :-)

Shirts:
-One-sided or two-sided? (maemo.org Logo / Summit 2009 Amsterdam)
- Colors: Black and/or white?
- If two sided with a "Summit 2009 \n Amsterdam" back: any Maemo5 system fonts that can be used?

Stickers: maemo.org, with small footnote "Summit 2009, Amsterdam" (Did we have such a thing last year? I don't remember :rolleyes)

Related to shirts - will there be extra shirts made for the Summit and can I take with me a shirt (and some stickers :)) for my wife who is not registered to the summit - but is a fan of Maemo nevertheless ;)

No, we just need someone to make a decision. I think Tim is appropriately empowered.

Quim, this is one of my MUST tasks for the Sprint. I am speaking with a couple of people right now. I will try to find shirt sizes from the registrations.

Yes, we need to choose final designs.

I will have more time tomorrow.

Hi, please let me know the budgets you are asking for. Nokia has an official merchandise partner and I will ask them as well, including shipping to Amsterdam. Then we can compare prices. Thanks!

Working on it... They sent me an initial quote, but I'm having them refine it a bit. I haven not "authorized" anything yet, of course. ;) I will send you the quotes as soon as I get them back.
