The good part... I see Skype on the N900.

The bad part... it also will not use the forward facing camera.

My "little disappointed" letter to Skype will be written shortly.

Re: skype on n900?

I saw at the Skype-Homepage that it is possible to send files and texts (sms) with the new windows mobile version (3.0) of Skype.

How about the Maemo 5 version of Skype?

Not supported on the Maemo 5 version AFAIK. Here is a slide of the features of Skype for Maemo 5 straight from the horse's mouth.

Thanks for your info! I like these features on my PC (file transfer: fast and easy; sms: cheap, especially from abroad). So is there a chance that you can get these features on your N900 in the future? From community or directly from Nokia/Skype?

i was talking to mark douglas after his skype presentation at #maesum, and he said regarding the video feature, that up to this point, they've just been busy getting skype this far on the n900. so what comes to missing features, i would imagine they may be added later. no promise though.

and i can confirm: file transfer does not work at the moment.

Re: skype on n900?

Does anyone know if there has been any development on Skype SMS lately?

I currently pay around 25c per SMS in AU, where Skype charges 8.8c... I've been trying to get my friends using IM (msn, gtalk, facebook, skype etc), but most do not have a compatible handset.

Maybe I'm just a tight-***, but I currently use skype over 3g for phone calls and pay around 1/30-1/3 the standard rate (even lower when calling international numbers).

might have found a way but had no time to test it properly since im currently overseas and its late here, what u wanna do is go to ur call log, look for a cell phone number u dialed thru skype but that is not saved in ur address book, click it then click text message, it will then open a conversation window with the icon being skype in the text input field, try sending that person a text, lemme know if it works thnx

Didn't want to start a new thread - so necroposting.

Is there a way to disable a certain group conversation in Skype on N900 without having to leave it, so that I could use it normally on my notebook? It is
Also, I do not want my front camera to be working with skype, how do I make sure it doesn't turn on occasionaly?

Eh? I'm not sure I follow. This is what I think you mean. You are signed in to Skype on your phone as well as on your PC. You don't want to sign out of Skype on your phone but you also don't want it updating the screen when you continue your conversation on the PC. If that's right, then sorry, you can't. That's just how Skype works. You can be signed in from multiple places and all of them get updated. What's more, if you run your conversation from place A while place B is signed out, place B will get updated with all the recent posts the moment it signs in. Group or no group, no difference.

Do you mean a video call turns on all by itself? That's not how it works for me. I have to choose when I am initiating a call whether I want audio only or audio+video. Same for receiving a call.

I mean I am subscribed to a group chat with over 60 people and they keep flooding it with messages 24/7 and it's ok when I'm on my notebook but absolutely unacceptable when I'm using skype on N900, it alerts all the time and even sometimes lags. I do not want to turn off alerts, just that chat. And I didn't find an option to block a group conversation, only to leave it.

Basically, I am ok with receiving video but I don't want to send any. On my notebook, I just disabled camera in device manager and that's it. I don't want to hit some button by mistake and ruin my privacy. So I want to either set front camera to never turn on in Skype either disable it (until reflash).

Re: skype on n900?

Wow, 60! My entire Skype address book is about 10.

I may be wrong but I don't think it is doable. At best you can sign out but you will get all the messages the next time you sign in, so you are pretty much stuffed.

Regarding the camera thing, I guess it might be possible to disable it with some dbus magic but I would not have the first idea how. Anyone?

Re: skype on n900?

Hi,

Do Skype group chats work on n900? I've found that my n900 stopped getting group chat messages. Direct Skype messages are fine and I still can receive and send them.

Thank you.
