scummvm 1.0rc1
Hi,
there is new version on scummvm.org site, final 1.0 is planned for October. Maemo package can be downloaded directly from scummvm.org or from http://fanoush.wz.cz/maemo/#scummvm. Putting it to Maemo repository for all OS versions is some additional overhead for me so I'll do it after some bugfixes or when 1.0 comes or when it is ready for Fremantle (whatever comes earlier) Now I would appreciate some comments. Maemo port is mostly about keybindings. Could someone who knows newly supported games and has data files and can test it comment on playability and needed keybindings fixes? List of games is here http://scummvm.svn.sourceforge.net/s...-1-0-0rc1/NEWS the most interesting is IMO the Discworld 1 and 2. There are some ongoing talks with right owners (Terry Pratchett) and most probably the game will be released as freeware soon so it will hopefully appear on scummvm downloads page (with 1.0 release?). And BTW, there is very nice music done for some ScummVM games, Discworld is supported too. Check http://www.jameswoodcock.co.uk/?page_id=54 Previous scummvm thread is here http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=27073. |
Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
*Suddenly writes a red X on my schedule for this calendar month*
I hope this doesn't come back to bite me. *lol* But yeah, I'll definitely be testing this out and post any problems with key bindings. Thank you! Thank you! |
Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
Thing is that for rc1 release deadline I did not manage to get copy of any of newly supported games so the binary on scummvm site has no additional key customizations.
Yesterday I got Discworld 1 so now I finally have data files both in my PC an N810 and after quick play I guess I know Discworld 1 keybindings now. - F1 brings main menu, this needs to be mapped to menu key, F5/F7 is save/load but can be done from F1 menu too - left button clicking works as is - enter (d-pad center) or doubleclick does some action, dpad also moves cursor, all works as is - right click is by default ctrl key on N810 keyboard, needs to be mapped for N800/770, looks like I have it already mapped to zoom minus key (at least on N810) Anything else missed? Some games have specific keys needed only in some (action/puzzle/fight) scenes, is something like that in Discworld? Does Discworld 2 Missing Presumed use same interface and keys as Discworld 1? |
Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
Greetings Fanoush!
Okay, dusting off my manuals this is all of the key bindings that I can find: Rincewind's Mouse Controls Walk - Click Interact - Double Click Look- Right Click Pick up object - Click on that object Put down object - Click on empty area (or object to insert) Look at object - Right click on the object Use held object on another - Double click on second object Exit inventory - Click ouside of window (or ESC key) Move inventory - drag (click and hold) heading box Resize inventory - drag edges or corners of window Maximise inventory - double click in heading box Normalise inventory - double click in heading box Scroll inventory contents - click on scroll bar arrows Scroll by a page - click above or below scoll bar indicator Scan through inventory fast 0 drag scroll bar indicator To open a conversation with a character, you simply double click on that character. Using the Keyboard The star burst cursor is moved around by using the ARROW keys The SPACE key is the equivalent of a single click (for walking), and the RETURN key is the equivalent of a double click (for interacting with). The 'CTRL' key is used for 'look'. When an inventory window is open you have some additional keys. Use the SHIFT key with the arrow keys to scroll the inventory up or down. PgUp and PgDn scroll up or down by a page, and the Home and End keys move you to the start or end of the inventory accordingly. The Esc key is used to bypass any fixed animation sequences or 'cut-scenes", and also to cancel or abort any window operation. Alt X is used to exit the game. You can open up the Options window by pressing the F1 key. It contains the following options. * Load a Game * Save this Game * Start a New Game * Game Controls * Configure * Quit Playing * Resume Game The key bindings are virtually similar with DIscworld II, except in addition, you can also use Alt F4 to exit the game entirely. Not seeing any other differences besides this. Oh and James Woodcocks' music supplement along with the CD version of Discworld is totally epic! Awesome release! I can't thank you enough! :D I'm currently using Xkbd for now, but yeah, mapping the hardware buttons would make this build feel even more complete. Cheers buddy! |
Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
Thanks for nice summary Addison, looks like it is easy, most controls need no change after all.
http://fanoush.wz.cz/maemo/scummvm_1.0.0rc1-1_armel.deb - menu key mapped to game menu - right click mapped to zoom minus - enter mapped to zoom plus for N810 since keypad may be closed, for 770/N800 it is 'y' to have different name in saved games (if you can cope with names y, yy, yyy ,yyyy :-) when games have same name I see some bug, it picks up different one than expected - the swap/home key brings up game menu too when you switch away from scummvm For doubleclick to work reliably I needed to change it in the game control settings and move it to the right a bit. So if there are no complaints or suggestions for other new games, I will put this version to Maemo extras repositories. |
Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
Excellent!
Also, the key bindings required to play Cruise for a Corpse are: Left Mouse Right Mouse and Both Mouse Buttons simultaneously in order to access the user menu. Many thanks again Fanoush! |

Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
Current version works great!
Many thanks! |
Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
Will version 1.0 make it to Extras? It seems like the version there is still 0.13.0
|
Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
It is already in Extras for everything except Diablo and Fremantle. I am actually having nice ScummVM hacking evening right now so it will be there for Diablo today or tommorrow.
And BTW the http://fanoush.wz.cz/maemo/scummvm_1.0.0_armel.deb package works for Diablo too. |
Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
Thanks for placing the Diablo version in Extras!
I downloaded the 1.0 and it seems to run fine on myh N810. Any idea if Broken Sword 2.5 will be able to run on it? |

Wow, didn't know that Discworld was run on the SCUMM engine. I guess I need to dust off my CD of it...

Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
Will ScummVM be put into the fremantle repository? I tried installing in X-terminal but couldn't get it working so uninstalled it.

i need few days, current code is quite messy and scattered over more places and mapping ctrl+something to another key without ctrl is not trivial (i.e. faking that ctrl or other modifier is not pressed). Quote:

I'm off on holiday early Saturday morning, and hoping to re-visit Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones, Sam & Max, Monkey Island etc :) I'm using dpkg -i *.deb to install the deb file (where * is file name) but I don;t know where it installs. I'm new to this :) Thanks for all the help! |
Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
I've managed to get ScummVM working from your link - thanks!
Any ideas how I can navigate to .documents? It appears hidden and not coming up in the ScummVM load game dialogue box. I've put the freeware Beneath A Steel Sky in there (I actually own the CD anyway) but cannot point to it. I wonder if Gabriel Knight will be emulated as well ? I have the original CDs of those somewhere too. |
Re: scummvm 1.0rc1
any plans for Grim Fandango to run on scummvm?

http://residual.sourceforge.net/ http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawik...itle=Main_Page It's in a very early stage, but it might be something to use for Grim Fandango (50% completed) and Monkey Island 4 (1% completed ;)) in the future if someone is interested to port it to Maemo. |
