DJ Music Mixing Software for NIT (N900)?
I almost have my wife talked into using the N900 as her next phone/MP3 player. If she can find audio mixing software (something like the Windows DJ Mix Master, or similar), that will clinch the deal.
What is available for the NIT? If nothing, what size bounty would it take to get the most user-friendly linux app ported/customized for the N900? And how long would something like that take? Is there a lot of community interest in this? It's minor, but she really wants 60 GB storage. Anyone know if microSD cards will be available in 32 GB soon, and would they work in an N900? (The N900 has more storage than any other phone, right? 48 GB should be enough for a while.) |

Re: DJ Music Mixing Software for NIT (N900)?
maemo ? well there is tabletDJ (mixx) but I think it didn't and wont get any where in developing
https://garage.maemo.org/projects/tabletdj/ and seriously your wife won't be able to do much PRO work through tablet even if it was ported as is (many options to be fitted within 800x480) and separating all these options into many windows won't give be a pleasure for the end user. Also, check this out (15 programs) http://www.linux-sound.org/ddj.html with exception to UltraMixer which you will need to buy & get it working through java (easydebian?) add to that (kaffe? or GNU Compiler for the Java? and similar) Anyway like I stated before, I think the only problem is on the GUI part. Bounty would help (The higher the better). |

So my goal was to get my wife to use the Nokia N900, but it sounds like the facts could convince her to go with the iPhone (or IPod Touch). Not what I wanted :( |
Re: DJ Music Mixing Software for NIT (N900)?
That i phone app is not as good as it looks its just a gimik with only one table. would be nice if some one could mimic the functionality of the pacemaker on the n900, my friend had one it's good fun.

Perhaps I'm about to demonstrate how lame and un-hip I am, but... I really don't get it. What would such an application be used for? An impromptu rave or just personal amusement on the toilet, etc?
Why exactly would someone need or want this on a mobile phone? Please enlighten me because my interest is peaked. :) |
Re: DJ Music Mixing Software for NIT (N900)?
i can understand why people would want it as an after thought but cant understand why it would make or break the decision of getting a new cell device

Re: DJ Music Mixing Software for NIT (N900)?
In my original post I said my wife is interested in the "N900 as her next phone/MP3 player".
She carries around an iPod Touch, a really nice MP3 player with a 60 GB hard drive, a camera and a Nokia phone. One device to do all those functions would obviously be convenient. Her MP3 player is starting to give some trouble, so she will soon need to purchase a new one. It is easier for her to justify paying for an N900 is if she doesn't have to buy a new MP3 player. Her decision will hinge on whether the N900 if it meets her music needs -- and that makes perfect financial sense, from her perspective. She uses the MP3 player for work, so it is the most important (and expensive) of all her devices. With some software, I think the N900 could be her MP3 player and simple music editor/mixer. |
Re: DJ Music Mixing Software for NIT (N900)?
yes, i am sure you could run audacity or some linux app to mix/edit your music.
But it would help if you gave an example. Like what kind of "mixing" ? There are some pretty good iphone apps that have like 4 channel mixing, but they are expensive and stuff. |

What I still don't get, and forgive me, is what the DJ app is for. Can you please give me a scenario where it would be useful? I am honestly not trying to be snarky, but I really don't get why this feature would be nice on a phone... or any portable media device for that matter. A music editor on the other hand, I could see a use for that... I wonder if there's anything like an Audacity port? |

it does everything she needs, except export to MP3. She only uses the simple functions such as:
I asked her to look at Audacity. You think Audacity will run on the N900? |

See my prior thread. She mostly uses the visual (graphical) music editing functions along with some transition (fading) and tempo effects. She specifically likes MixMeister because it is graphical and easy to use. I'll assume she could get used to Audacity if it has the functions she uses and would run on the N900. |

As for Audacity, a lite Maemo port sounds quite useful. I have no idea if this has been attempted though. |

Re: DJ Music Mixing Software for NIT (N900)?
Would Audacity work well with Easy Debian on an N810? Has anyone tried that? (Would Deblet or another alternative be better?) Hoping to hear from someone that has already tried Audacity on the tablet... thanks

Re: DJ Music Mixing Software for NIT (N900)?
I also don't understand the reason for your wife's need of a music editing application on the N900 if currently the ipod is used just for playing and the editing is done on the PC. Is she also trying to replace the PC or do editing on the go? If she is used to MixMeister for her editing but wants to get her projects into MP3, she can export her projects to WAV and use the free Lame MP3 encoder to convert from one to the other. I haven't used Audacity in a while but I belive you have to add an MP3 encoder anyway to get the projects to export to MP3.

Our DJ app is aimed at consumers, but I'm porting our ringtone remixing app for the N900: www.myrmx.com If she's just looking to have fun interacting and remixing music, maybe it would work for her.
