we are maemo

Hi,

Nokia is gearing up towards releasing the greatly anticipated N900 device
which allows each and every one of us to use and create our dream apps in!
They have listened to the community and it has sourced the best components
it can to produce what I say is an outstanding piece of technological magic.

Our heritage is strong, this device follows from the n800 and n810 and the
good, solid, strong applications we created there will continue to be
beacons in the night.
Those same applications appear to work well on the new device and give us a
solid path towards the future.

With the new device comes new capabilities, features and interfaces and
methods of interacting we have not had before.
I am confident new apps will emerge which will make use of each and every
component and people will find ever inventive tools and hacks to make this
device shine!

We have already started on this path, there is a great amount of interest in
using the accelerometer, from things like Jaffas' Attitude to Sampo playing
with shake2control and even my own onedotzero and liqbase apps. I am
impressed by the stability and sensitivity of the hardware in all
conditions.

The Nokia Push N900 initiative has shown some of the capabilities of sending
text messages and controlling the environment with radio waves.
We have an amazing camera on the device - another missing link from the
previous devices, very warmly recieved and in full use every day!

Next month, we have the second maemo summit in Amsterdam - bigger than last
year but with the same agenda: to bring us together and connect us.
I look forward to the connections and collaborations we will make there and
hope we each fulfill our dreams.

The hardware is powerful, the operating system is slick, the community is
strong.
A chorus of voices.

We are maemo.

We have bacon in Europe. Although, if it's anything like a knife, you'll be able to buy it after going past TSA (if other US airports are like SFO)

I like how you make it sound like you're doing something new.

Is this "We are maemo" bit like "We are SPARTANS!" or is it more like "We are Marshall"?

Next we need a quick audio tagline like Intel has (I love their new commercials that end with Intel "employees" humming Intel's 5 five note theme).

The Maemo theme song? You mean the sound of a Maemo device rebooting? ;-)

Re: we are maemo

Seriously though, lcuk's text would be great as a voice-over for video footage of onedotzero, Summit '08, that cool "three N900s, one table" video, some shots of the new Maemo 5 UI being demo'd....

Then post it as a response to the ourMaemo Maemo Community Marketing Call To Arms video!

It should be a requirement that Council members sing it and disseminate a recording. >.>

Re: we are maemo

ok

lets keep this simple, but it has to be done with everyone to have it working.

just the very end

"we are maemo"

very short snippet in clear voice.
we can edit it together later?

send all of them to tim perhaps?

Wait. I see what's "at the end." What goes "at the beginning"?

Also, explain exactly what the scope of the project is? Do I need to go back and read again? :p

And sure, send them to me.

N900: [User pulls out her iPhone] I can assure you I mean you no harm.
User: Who are you?
N900: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is mobile computer with phone capabilities.
User: Well I can see that.
N900: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a device with N900 printed on the screen who he is.
User: Oh. Right.
N900: But on this most auspicious of nights, permit me then, in lieu of the more commonplace sobriquet, to suggest the character of this dramatis mobile device.
N900: Voilą! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by ignorant bloggers. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now wanting 3D and eye candy. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding closed platforms and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious wireless data and voice bills!
[carves "MAEMO" into poster on wall]
N900: The only verdict is openness; an open source platform, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.
[giggles]
N900: Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me Rover.
User: Are you like a featurephone?
N900: I am quite sure they will say so.

I have thought about this now for a time and the only reasonable answer I can come up with is I do not know.

I am sure one of you guys can take this and come up with more.

We are a community, no one person can come up with everything.
we are the combination of all the good ideas and fragments and knitted together by a common ideal.
we are everything and we are nothing.

There is not 1 right way or wrong way to do anything, there are shades of grey and alternatives available, from the toolkits to the applications to the configuration.

we embrace chance and welcome difference and the end game is ever evolving.
I have said before, we come to help build the barn.

we, are maemo.

timsamoff 2009-09-25 17:44

Re: we are maemo

That's cool, but... What if you did that/ Then, everyone else can come up with their own variation, so long as it's about the same length and ends with, "We are Maemo."

What do you think?

Tim
