Re: can i download maemo mapper maps to my computer then to the devic?

Yes, but it's not easy. It requires using a script written in Python.

Re: can i download maemo mapper maps to my computer then to the devic?

lol. What? Like that's not easy? Seriously, it's super, super easy. ;) Just download this script to your Linux box (if you have Windows, you're gonna need to do this a different way), install sqlite3, Python 2.x und PySQLite 2.x. Next, open a command prompt and run the command as follows:

getmaps GStreet.sqlite -t 44.86000 -l -88.43000 -b 39.83000 -r -81.62000 -z 16 -z 14 -z 12 -z 10 -z 8 -z 6 -z 4

replace the numbers after the first four variables (-t, -l, -b, and -r) with the coords Maemo mapper gives you for the area you want to download. Then add or remove zoom layers by changing the numbers after the -z. Each of those is a zoom layer. So if you only want zoom levels 6, 5 and 4, then you only need "-z 6 -z 5 -z 4" after the coords in the command.

To get the coords, zoom and navigate to the area you want to download, then click the menu, maps, manage maps, then click the second tab. It'll tell you your coords. It should be labeled "area". It's not the top four numbers you want, but rather the bottom four, and you want them exactly in the order they appear.

Help

II didn't understand where to extract the sqlite files

Lord Raiden 2009-09-18 16:12

Re: can i download maemo mapper maps to my computer then to the devic?

Are you talking about where to put the sqlite file created by the getmaps script, or are you talking about installing sqlite itself?

ayyak 2009-09-18 21:45

Re: can i download maemo mapper maps to my computer then to the devic?

installing it

ayyak 2009-09-18 22:38

Re: can i download maemo mapper maps to my computer then to the devic?

Hey Lord Raiden

I wanted to know where to install it?
after extracting it where to put it?

Lord Raiden 2009-09-19 02:23

Re: can i download maemo mapper maps to my computer then to the devic?

Just copy it wherever you want to on the tablet, then go into Maemo Mapper, create a new repository, set the type as "sqlite" and then set the map file as the path where the file is, and the name you gave it. Some maybe something like this:

/media/mmc2/map/google.sqlite

Re: can i download maemo mapper maps to my computer then to the devic?

ok

What about the poython what to do with it
Is this the program that you use to download maps?

Lord Raiden 2009-09-20 01:16

Re: can i download maemo mapper maps to my computer then to the devic?

Poython? Not sure what that is. As for downloading the maps on your PC, just use the getmaps script.

You mean this script?

and then what it say that it use python and pysqlite?

How to use them?

If we do know, the place to ask it would be the thread you already started.

(Personally, I don't know.)

Threads merged. ayyak, please do not open multiple threads for the same help request. Also, abusive language toward others is inappropriate. Please try to remember that others are voluntarily helping you in their free time.

When I run my code i got the above error and the following:
1)Your indentation is outright incorrect(easy to fix), OR
2)Your indentation mixes tabs and spaces

i'm not sure i understand the question.

i read it as; "can i download cloudmade maps and copy them from my PC onto my n900?"

i used to download cache packs for nasa world wind and unzip then to the relevant directory, and hey presto they would work.#

so i am a little dismayed at all this talk of creating SQLite databases and such nonsense.

and i misinterpreting the original question (hopefully so)?
if i am not misinterpreting the question, why on earth is so complicated to use cache packs of texture detail in maemo mapper (very useful if you down't have an unlimited data plan)?

regards

Because Google doesn't want you to use them without their Google Maps service (the maps themselves are not the service). They generally don't bother with clamping down though unless you are downloading large scathes of the planet.

i'm not talking about google, i am talking about openstreetmap in general, and clouldmade raster reformats of openstreetmap vector data which is free to download.

i know mameo mapper supports openstreetmap, but i'm not sure in what format, or how that data is loaded onto the device.

i use the example of nasa worldwind, and their downloadable cache packs as an example of the simplicity i expect maemo mapper to be able to achieve.

is this possible?
