Satire is dead (again)
When Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace, Tom Lehrer declared that satire was dead.
Now I'd like to present the internet world's very own Satire Is Dead moment: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8268297.stm Quote:

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Re: Satire is dead (again)
You guys don't thing the US market is competitive?? Living here, I can tell you, its cut throat, and a big reason Nokia is nearly locked out. We have 6 major carriers that advertise heavily, we have WinMo, WebOS, OSX, Android, RIM, and Symbian devices all on TV commercials, and exclusives at each carrier. You may say, "its the same way over here", but without much regulation, these carriers are cutthroat. at&t is thinking about buying DirecTV and Verizon Dish Network, just to offer a better TV streaming effort and get vertical. Sprint is giving away unlimited everything for under 75 bucks! TMo is trying to buy into the WiMax bandwidth (it can switch to LTE via software) and offering 21 mbps 3G to battle att.
Its bad here, and one wrong move could mean bankruptcy in this economy. Wireless is probably a bigger ecomonic engine here than most other places. |

I used to cover carrier news, so believe me, its like murder with these carriers. All of them are battling for a particular part of the market

And the irony of how "net neutrality" has been co-opted and twisted by walled garden engineers is enough to make me sick. |

I'm sure AT&T tried to argue that back in the 70's JUST before they were forced to break up. But that's okay--we can relive the past once again in a beautiful bright new future of consolidation! Murder between carriers, indeed. |
