Zagg InvisibleSHIELD for N900 (was: I need your Help Zagg Invisible Shield Request)

Hi,
I need you guys to help get Zagg interested in making an invisibleshield. Please go here and fill out the request form. They said if enough people expressed an interest, they would make one.

THIS is for the Nokia N900. The thread was moved from that thread making it confusing what I was asking for.

Here's the link.

Zagg Request Form

Thanx!

EDIT:
Let me clarify.

They said we need to fill out the forms to see if there is enough interest. I sent in a question about whether they will make one. And they said they would if there was enough interest.

ZAGG has made invisibleSHIELDs for the 770, the N800, and the N810. The N900 is virtually guaranteed to sell in greater quantities than any of the tablets, so it seems quite unlikely ZAGG is going to skip it.

Pah. If your N900 has an invisibleshield you'll never find it again if you put down anywhere.

How does a screen protector affect a resisitive screen?

Great! do you have the laser die-cutter that you can lend us for free to cut the template with?

Makes it slightly softer (more cushy) to your pen.
If the pen is too sharp or you hit the screen hard at an angle, it's possible to fold\ripple the shield, damaging it (but not the screen).

Invisible shield uses the stickier 3M material, I personally prefer the one used by BodyGuardz.

A bit, though not a lot. I'd say the main problem is that it makes the screen more reflective, though I never used my N800 without one, so can't really say. There are no problems using your nail or stylus though. And, with the N900's new sensitive screen, shouldn't be such a problem.

I'm just hoping for a crazy scratch-proof N97-esque screen!

I have no experience on this, but I guess it hardly affects it at all. The responsiveness might suffer just a tiny little bit but not much though.

Ask that to my $5 precision knife. It seems it cut it the way that it should. (Maybe there is some secrete nano-laser-die-cutter hidden in it).

This is actually an option depending on the screen protector you buy. You can get a clear protector which will tend to increase the glare but also allow all the screen brightness through. You can also get protectors that are designed to reduce the glare at the expense of some screen brightness. They generally have a rough surface which disperses incoming (and some outgoing) light. I prefer the anti-glare protectors because they also facilitate writing on the screen since they produce a more paper-like feel.

As far as the N900, all this is academic at the moment. In general you will have to wait a bit to buy third party protectors. Assuming the N900 is successful they should start to crop up soon. I don't know that I'd recommend any of those that already show up on Google Shopping - I've never heard of the companies involved.

I've got one on my N810 and notice absolutely no difference. As someone who is really obsessive compulsive about keeping electronics in tip top shape, I can't imagine owning any more gadgets without full body protectors. My buddy has one on his Palm Pre and I didn't notice any difference, even with multi-touch.

Zagg is very very likely to come out with a shield for the N900. They've got shields for some of the crappiest phones and odd devices. I don't see why they would not make one. It just takes a bit of time until the N900 is more saturated in the US.

Yeah, I'm just trying to get the ball rolling. They said, they make them when they get a threshold of requests for them. If nobody requests, they don't go for it. I also sent in a request to better skinz as well.

I have a Samsung Eternity I'm going to sell. It still has the protective film with decal on it from the factory. It's resistive as well, makes no difference.

Oh, you must be thinking of a simple rectangular cut ;) then i don't think it's worth buying a set of invisible shields for.

no way! this company is so full of **** that there's no limits!

if you have no problems and get prime quality, everything is perfect (as with my n800) but if they send you sh...., then you're on your own. with my e71 shield i got one replacement (both worked like a prism, all whites were beautiful :D ) and after that they required that i must pay more to get new shield. because i've allready had one warranty replacement free. and there it was. email replies were standard form, nobody really read what i wrote, what was the problem, ...

so no way. hope nobody here who orders has problems

I have the Zagg Invisible Shield on my n800. It's squishy..slight loss of sensitivity. Not sure if I would get it again.

Re: I need your Help Zagg Invisible Shield Request

I've used BoxWave screen protectors on my N810 and an Invisible Shield on my N800 and Cowon D2 back then...
The BoxWave is a lot more rigid and didn't feel resistive while dragging with the stylus, though they don't do full body shield and they probably lower the sensitivity so it's a hard choice for the next one!

Full body shield by Zagg and screen by BoxWave ?

Or maybe i should just get used to the Zagg's drag resistance but i really felt it was hard to be precise with it...

Have you tried other brands?

No , actually you could cut it into other shapes ,but you will need to be either good with cutting or simply cut a a little bigger rectangular than your need then cut it again with something like this http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12590 (I got it from dealextreme and since then it come into many uses for me), as you can see it got many holes that you can use it to control the edges of your rectangular.

On my N810, it anything the screen protector has given it a better feel. Maybe that's just because I'm not afraid to press hard.

But on the N900, what about that "swipe onto the screen from the left" gesture to bring up the mouse pointer? Is that still going to work well if the screen protector ends at that exact point?

I'm assuming N900 screen protectors will cover the entire front area, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Hmm.. I usually use invisible shield (or bodyguardz) for the body of the device, and use a clear shield (japanese brand) for the screen. Neither of those can be made by hand to the same quality unfortunately.

(I can't find a scan\image of the invisible shield pattern, but suffice to say it has lots of holes and uneven shapes to accomodate the fit of the device's body and its many buttons\sensors)

I found this picture http://www.zagg.com/images/products/full/NOKN86FB.jpg

From it , I can see your point about how difficult it will be to make one that fits 100% with your device's body.

if you are willing to cut it for the whole body ,I suggest first to bring a paper and cover your device with, then with a pencil try to color the whole paper (like scratching it with your pencil) this will show your device details clearly , now take off your paper and start cutting it. If this paper is fitting 100% then you can start using it as a template for your scotchguard cutting otherwise try to repeat it (About the pencil part, I am not sure if a photocopy might work better than the pencil).

I know this might looks like having many trial and errors to get a single protector & might not worth the time and efforts ,but you have to admit it sill cheaper.
You can consider this project to kill some time when you don't have anything to do ;)

Hello,
Thanx to the folks on this board most likely, Invisible shield is going to do the N900. I am sending mine to them for a Pattern, if I ever get it of course!

invisibleshield for n900?

http://www.invisibleshield.com.au/

They seem to have really good stuff and they said if enough people e-mailed them ( "if we believe there's sufficient demand") about an n900 cover, then they'd make it.

They've already got covers for the droid so the lack of an n900 cover is just insulting!!

also if anyone has any opinions about these covers id love to hear them!

They are Zagg now, and actually they want to do an N900 protector already... only problem is they need a device to design it and asked people who requested it to send them a device (back & forth)... I'm guessing none of the 300 dev did yet.

Re: invisibleshield for n900?

I don't want one - its a great idea but if you keep your phone in your pocket, then its starts to peel off...but the worst thing is the lifetime warranty...where you have to return the original back to America (from UK) at your own cost and then pay postage for the replacement (£2.50 ish) although they use a UK company to ship by Royal Mail 2nd class so £2.50 charge is ridiculous!

dick-richardson 2009-11-12 13:38

Re: invisibleshield for n900?

I'll be getting the screen only cover and putting it in a belt clip. The scratch protection is incredible, but for the body I'd rather have the padding of the belt clip for shock. Also, mchu6am4 is right, the full body protection on my previous devices started peeling at the corners. I just trimmed the sections that started peeling and never had a real problem, but it does detract from the aesthetics (if you care about such things).

I had one for my iphone 3GS and it was great. never having to worry about having coins or keys in my pocket at the same time. It's a PITA to install though.

In the thread "Cheap helpful accessories", damsaint has a link to an EBay auction that has a pre-cut shield to (what appear to be) the N900 contours.

I was about to regret making my DuraSec purchase this morning, but now I think that was the right move .. besides, $25, even after the 20% discount is a bit too much imo

How crappy will the touchscreen be after a Zagg? Will I not be able to use it with my finger?

Laughing Man 2009-11-21 03:31

Re: Zagg InvisibleSHIELD for N900 (was: I need your Help Zagg Invisible Shield Request)

You can still use your finger. It's just precision that goes down. E.g. if you try to draw with the stylus..

Well have fun..trying.

On the plus side, they really do work. It's just that I don't think they were made for touchscreens in mind, the commercial itself says that they were developed for the military. It would be good for the body of the n900, not the touchscreen itself. Hence why I'm not going with InvisibleShield again.

Don't forget that you can get up to 5$ off the full body by using coupons:

http://www.retailmenot.com/view/zagg.com

I got one when i received the message as it's the only screen protector available in north America right now...

Maybe I'll get a different front one later!
