I need everyone to participate on this. :)
Alright, i am extremely curious on how many people are going to buy the N900 (either that you pre-ordered it already or will pre-order/buy one soon) and how many aren't going to buy the N900..
If you are planning to buy one care to share what really made you plan to buy/pre-order it? If you aren't planning to buy an N900 care to share why don't you want to buy one? What is that something that is bothering you about it maybe? If you're still not sure whether you want to buy one or not, care to share what is making you feel that way? Maybe you have a question that other people have an answer for.. I am very anxious to see what all of you want to say... |
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
Probably buy one after it comes out. Perfect timing because I need a phone that works with WiFi (aka Google Voice and SIP because of zero cell coverage) and don't really want an Android phone.
However my n810 is working perfectly, so I will probably wait for the price to drop a bit... |
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
Ha that was fast! I was still adding a poll.. Lol... Anyways i pre-ordered it because i am tired of my N95-1. And i need something that will browse the web without feeling any sort of pain.. Lol

Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
Hi, I've pre-ordered mine on the 2nd of September 2009.
|
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
pre-order.
Waiting, Wishing, Wanting... it to hurry up :) |
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
Definitly going to buy one on the day that it's availible here in the netherlands.
|
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
For the next time please use a proper subject. I dislike having to look into threads just because the topic is vague.
|
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
Will probably buy one (I really need to be able to merge my N800 and my cell-phone)...but before before I buy it, I will wait to see some feedback from early adopters....I don't really like to throw away my money on something uncertain...

preordered as soon as was possible. I only have a 770 (4 years old now!), skipped 8x0 because of lack of 3G

Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
Wasn't there a poll exactly like this already? For the record, I voted the same way as the previous time.

you forgot the cowboy neal option:

Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
Kind of off-topic, but I really miss the way the old forum worked: When hovering the pointer over a thread you would see the first paragraph of the posting as an 'alt' tag (i.e. yellow little poster). Thus, you could check what the thread was about without all the bother of clicking on it.
The way it is now I follow a lot less threads than I used to. Particularly threads with an unclear title. |

Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
I think we already had a poll and thread on precisely this subject. I'm not buying until it's clear how well it gets along with US cell service providers, and I'm not so sure that I will buy one then. I have a $30 a month plan with Sprint that doesn't run out for almost a year, and I really can't afford much more than that to make a couple calls a month like I do now. I'm thinking, maybe I should go back to a Tracfone, which would cost more like $100 a year...

I voted here, pre-ordered as soon as the price was published, but changed my preorder place and now I have pretty decent 24month plan for about my current montly payment. |

Waiting for last step ;)

And you would only get curious people's attention or people who have a lot of time to waste (I'm in the 2nd category, I generally ignore vaguely named threads, but I'm bored). I voted maybe, I'll wait until we know if USB host is supported or not. If not supported, I won't buy it (USB flash drives / USB HDD transfers are a big part of my use of the N810, more than web browsing for example). |
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
I'm struggling with this decision. The software is exactly what I want, but the hardware is exactly what I don't want (too-small screen for my eyes, too-fat brick shape for my jeans pocket).
The HTC HD2 is my ideal hardware: smaller than an N810 in all dimensions, yet a larger screen at 4.3 inches (and capacitive too!). But I would be extremely reluctant to buy a Windows Mobile device. I have mocked up the N900 in cardboard, and it's less comfortable in my jeans pocket than my bigger-but-slimmer N810. Sigh! Quote:

Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
Still debating. I will be pre-ordering something for release at the end of September. At the moment it's running about 60/40 in favour of the n900 over the satio. I will make up my mind after the Summit when there's a better idea about apps and people with the 'sale' models can answer one or two questions I still have.

Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
voted no, screen size is too small, its not a tablet its a smartphone

me either. i am not sure i need a keyboard. i have a N810 now, and i actually prefer to use the touch screen keyboard. i will take a look at the N910 or N920 or whatever is next and see if that device suits me.

Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
If Apple have proved one thing, it's that their iPhone/iPod form factor is a winner. It's a perfect compromise of dimensions. I am hardly surprised to see Nokia take heed of this.
Personally, I liked the N810 dimensions. The screen really did seem 'big enough' to be a convincing UMPC (or whatever nomenclature-du-jour you prefer). But with the same resolution and better acceleration, I can see how the 3.5" N900 can still look great - it certainly seems very readable in the demo videos. If the device has a POSIX-compliant OS that you can SSH into, you're way beyond mere 'smartphone' technology. |
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
Nope, not at those prices. Specs seem great and I'd love to be able to put some apple fanboys in their respective places.
I damn near bought a used smartphone instead of the "used" N810 I bought for $125 this past January. Soo, I got a great deal, and if I could get an N900 in a year for a couple hundred with no contract, I'd be in like Flynn. Camera upgrade is good, screen size is a downer (although traded for overall size = null), phone option is great, but I'll never add 50+ bucks a month for some service. I don't know what the cost would be for the phone service, but I do know that many people are paying more than a grand a year to keep ugrading phones and keep 3G service. That, my friends, is too much bucks. I can wait to get home, or work, or a hotspot and check messages, or surf or whatever. I'd say $300 bucks of the cost of this fancy new beast is for hype alone. |
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
I'd buy it at $300 USD or less.
Poll is missing "depending on cost" option. |

Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
I preordered my N900 earlier today!
For the past few months, after years and years of S60 phone after S60 phone, i've really felt the urge to try something different. It was just after these feelings started that the N900 began to appear on the internet, so I looked into it and decided that was the way to go. Now' i've never used a maemo device before, and if i'm honest i've never used anything Linux before!! So I imagine i've got ALOT to learn, but I really can't wait to get started :) |
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
I already have mine on pre-order, because its a true Linux OS.
I got sick of Windows mobile and especially the crappy Qualcomm chipset with its aweful drivers on Windows. Also 99% of WM software seems to cost $15, even if its a simple mundane application. The quality of the software does not seem all that great either. Android on the other hand, just doesn't appeal. Overall, its the hardware accelerated OS based on Debian and tipped the scale for me. As soon as I read about the N900 I knew I had to get it. The idea of having the same flexibility and drivers properly optimised for the hardware. I would never try to write Python code on Windows Mobile, its just too slow and clunky. On the N900 I think it may be totally plausible though, and that is cool. Do not get my wrong, its certainly not perfect. I too would have been happier if the screen had been a little bit bigger, the camera a little bit better, but I have been using my Xperia X1 for almost a year now at only 3" and coped so it will seem like a HUGE upgrade gaining even 0.5". My only worry is the camera looks like it might not be quite as good due to squeezing more megapixels into such a small lens and sensor. |
Re: I need everyone to participate on this. :)
I love my N800, but I've had enough with Nokia. We've been waiting for 2 years for this device, only to find they've significantly shrunk the screen (but not the physical device), and removed turn-by-turn sat nav.
I'm also fed up with wayfinder (way-flounder) not getting me to where I need to go properly, and having to de-drm my ebooks (ereader.com) and audio books (audible.com). OK, so the N900 has added exchange support. which was sorely missing, but that's not enough to compensate for the other ommissions. So, I'm going to go with the HTC HD2. Nice big screen (bigger than the N8x0), TomTom is available, official players/readers, native exchange support. I know there is a lot of negative feedback against WinMo, but I used it for long enough that it doesn't really bother me. Plus the new HTC Sense, with WinMo 6.5 look like they should address most of those (minor to me) issues. Sorry maemo, I love your openness, but it's time to say "until next time". |

Also I want to see what is going to happen in Maemo Summit 2009.. It will (hopefully) clear up all of my confusions about it.. Btw! Sorry guys if I "stole" your attention that definately wasn't my plan when I created this thread.. I just wanted to make this thread interesting.. :D |
