Good, I read the title and the first thing that crossed my mind was them sending C&D letters out in bulk mail. It's lame they can't do it before the holidays instead of after. There's no sense of urgency in March.

I wonder if the plans would be more expensive though if the device is subsidized. Cause the way I priced it now it's

$55 a month for 300 min + unlimied smartphone plan which comes with 300 SMS

$65 a month for 300 min + fav 5 (Google Voice FTW!) + unlimited smartphone plan that comes with 300 SMS

The iPhone starts at just $70 subsidized!

If this really is a plan to vault T-mobile out of 4th place, I doubt that a subsidized n900 is going to do the trick. Well, for T-mobile's sake I hope that isn't all that they have up their sleeves.

Perhaps something that shakes things up more fundamentally is brewing? Maybe a significant change to the business model? An alliance or acquisition of some sort? A game-changing leap in network quality/technology?

I believe it might be the acquisition of Spring (with the training of CDMA phones) or 4G is going to be implemented!

Haha if TMobile acquired Spring that would just mean someone would have to acquire Summer, Fall, and Winter. =P

But anyway, I don't think TMobile acquiring Sprint would help them that much. Sure in marketshare it would, but it would present headaches as they try to make their GSM and Sprint's CDMA networks compatible. 4G being implemented would be awesome, and would make sense with an affordable smartphone push (not necessarily the n900 but Android Phones, maybe a Pre, etc..)

Forget a Tmo N900. They are not going to sell one unless locked down and can only use their rom. They will not want the customer sevice issues that could result for an unlocked device.

Better off paying the $200 extra and no contract rather than dealing with trying to break into the device to be open OS.

It could be. Considering that TMobile's and AT&T networks are more compatible then Sprint or Verizon. Not mention acquiring Sprint wouldn't really launch you to 3rd place. It just meant you became defacto #3 just as if Sprint were to go out of business.

I really doubt any of these will come save a 4g announcement. Maybe it will be a roll out schedule for the 26MPS service and maybe some new high end devices.

Fact is, people don't like AT&T who have iPhones ( I know because I've had two with them ), their customer serivce sucks, reception sucks in large areas, and 3G is only in pockets. If T-Mobile got the iPhone you would definitely see allot people leave AT&T and the other two providers.

I doubt Verizon would get offered the iPhone again especially after they rejected it when Apple originally offered it to them. Apple I think would pretty much say 'frack off'. They offered it to them, Verizon chose to snub them and I bet the execs at Verizon are kicking themselves in the *** for that.

iPhone, better 3G coverage, along with other high end devices noone else has could definitely push T-Mobile up from fourth.

As far as cheaper plans for unsubsidized phones...why? T-Mobile is currently the only provider in the US where you can get the exact same plans through pre-paid as if you were contracted. I mean come on, the highest pre-paid plan AT&T has is $69.99 for 650 minutes and unlimited night and weekends, whereas T-Mobile 1000 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends for $39.99


Another note...T-Mobile Germany currently sells the iPhone 3GS which has compatible bands with T-Mobile USA...

Well I just signed up for it on Monday, and are grandfathered in as long as I keep paying it.... no contracts whatsoever. $39.99 for 1000 anytime minutes+ unlimited nights and weekends, and $34.99 for unlimited smartphone data plan + unlimited texts

The iPhone is the same everywhere in the world, just locked down to different carriers. It does not have 1700mhz band for T-mobile USA's 3G bands.

Also, I don't know if I put a lot of stock on the hearsay of one supposed employee that quit Nokia that we'll be getting subsidized n900s.

The timing is wrong for an iPhone announcement. ATT has a lock until the new year and I can't see people committing three months in advance unless they are giving them away (which I guess is a possibility).

No other announced or rumored phone is going to move the needle, even if they were giving them away.

I suspect it's an exclusive deal for a subsidized 3G netbook. For a true game changer it would have to be Asus, Acer, HP, or Dell. For sales it would be one of the first two; for brand recognition one of the latter two.

The plan you mention would cost $59.99 + $34.99 now, according to the t-mobile.com website. While not nearly as attractively priced, it still seems cheaper than AT&T.

But to get back on topic...

Given the lack of confirmation from T-Mobile, I found this bit to be the most interesting:

Sure, we would prefer that T-Mobile announce the N900 now and begin pushing it in advertising as well as offering a subsidy. But in the absence of any other news, I guess this tells us more about what to expect than we have heard elsewhere. It's nice to know something (assuming this news is reliable).

Of course the news could be better, but it seems like this direction is good for us US-based Nokia fans. So again, I was pleased to read it.

Personally, this would only grab my attention if it is news about much better/cheaper 3g data plans or an announcement related to 4G plans that are compatible with the N900.

I thought I left the iTablet rumors back on the OQO forum. :(

I don't see it, again because of the timing. If people are being trained it implies there are solid specs, a finished product, and training materials. If those exist now, I have to think that Steve Jobs would have announced it at the "Rock and Roll" event on September 9.

PC World recently had an article on Apple rumors. The first Apple tablet rumor was in 1981, before some of the people on this forum were born (also 8 years before the Newton was born).

With a high-resolution camera, an app to read punched cards should be quite feasible.

Well you could possibly run a punch card reader on a n8xx, there are serial punch card readers, and there is usb to serial cables, and the n8xx does usb host, and I think there is code in linux to deal with the reader. In theory you might be able to hook up a serial card punch as well.

There is a open source system/370 emulator so you could actually create a tiny system/370 system, along with the punch card reader/writer. That would win you some kind of old school geek award ;)

iPhone or iTablet on T-mobile certainly qualifies as a potential game-changer.

But, if the iPhone does come aboard, T-mo users who have 3g can probably kiss their decent network speeds goodbye...

Boy Genius Report has a tipster who says that Project Black is new phones (including the N900) plus a $50/month unlimited data+voice plan. Now that's something I can get excited about: a T-Mob plan that's priced in line with the quality of their network.
