Truly, I fail to see that as relevant in a situation like this. I'm a jokester, too-- I guess we have different thresholds.

Re: Breaking news: 6 year old boy may be in runaway experimental balloon

Seriously....who has a 20 foot silver balloon tethered to their house. Little Timmy climbs on board and flies away....that's some surreal humor there. Yeah, I guess I've got a pretty dark sense of humor at times.

I hope some miracle happens and the kid's OK, of course...

Re: Breaking news: 6 year old boy may be in runaway experimental balloon

Yeah....in the UK the Balloon Union still wouldn't have issued a permit and the damn thing would never float anyway.

Had the boy gotten safely out of the balloon, I would have been with Hogwash chuckling about this. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he got carried away with optimism.

I'm sure our thoughts are with the family in hope for some sort of happy ending.

At the time I posted that, nobody knew what had happened...the surreal situation kinda tickled me though. I'm not going to feel guilty about it - absent mens rea and all that ;)

How would Magyver have survived that?

Using his belt buckle prong to poke a small hole in the balloon and allowing small amounts of helium to escape, slowly lowering him to the ground.

The blatant disregard of human lives here is rather offensive, if I may say so.

@nuknuk: no, he's just not in the balloon when they found it.
the local sheriff's dept there is carrying out ground search now.

I see nothing on that page proving he's ok-- in fact The Weather Channel says the Sherrif's department is still searching for him....

No, maybe you are having your testosterone going wild ... and getting thrills and laughs off people misfortunes.

Edit :
I don't see how a boy falling off a balloon is dark humour.

CNN reporting the boy was likely never onboard

Hopefully, this is a kid's prank. I can imagine the kid reporting this having the story get away from him like a high-flying baloon and the missing kid appearing from the neighbor's house.

Re: Breaking news: 6 year old boy may be in runaway experimental balloon

Maybe he was dicking around with the mooring at it got loose, so he ran and hid in fear of the ***-whuppin' he'd get, and now cannot move because his pants are so full of crap.

Maybe he was trying to send the balloon to Finland to collect our N900s?

I mean.... yes it's tragic if something happened to the kid, I'm hoping it was all an elaborate hoax...

But this was one of Walter Cronkite's main complaints about the modern press. Everyone jumps to conclusions before checking the facts.
