will the nokia n900 come with a 16GB MICRO SD CARD or will i need to buy one

It does not come with any SD card. It had 32GB of internal memory. If you need 48GB then you should order a 16GB Micro SD card.

Once you get over 8gb, you need at least class 4, preferably class 6, unless you plan to wait all day for the files to copy.

Why is this? Do you mean because you are likely to be transferring more data when using larger cards or are you saying that a class 2 16gb cards actually have a slower transfer rate than class 2 8gb ones?

i need a card for watching films on and storing big files is a 16gb class 2 card to slow for that or would i need class 6

You're right - which is rather worrying, as it was the top item that came up when I searched for micro. I didn't look too closely.

Well, it just takes longer because of the total amount you're likely to be transferring to the card. The 16gb cards are no faster or slower than the 8gb. But you've effectively got 2x's the amount of data. So if it takes you 30 minutes to transfer 8gb to your card under class 2, it'll take you an hour with a 16gb card. If you have a class 4, it'll only take you 20 minutes, and class 6 will reduce that to 10, assuming all things equal of course. :)

Does it slow down the actual use of the card once installed? I don't care how long it takes to install my music collection (which will fit happily on the 32 gb anyway!) but I found with symbian devices that certain apps were better run from phone memory because of the speed of the card.

I bought one Ridata and one A-Data and love them. No problems whatsoever and as always Newegg is awesome!

i don't know if there have been data transfer speeds published for the n900 yet, but class 2 seems to be fast enough for n8X0 devices, unless you either want to boot from the external mmc, or load lots of large files onto the card using a laptop.

Never had any problems with Ridata cards, but I've had 2 A-Data cards fail on me so far, with a third threatening to. I refuse to buy them anymore. However, my Kingston, Sandisk, and Transcend disks have been just fine.
