Release Date - 11/14 ?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...k=nokia%20n900

Newegg claims 11/14.

I wouldn't mind waiting till December as long as the official release firmware is stable. I think the recent Archos Android release was embarrassing for the company and clearly illustrates what happens when you rush to meet a release date.

I am overeager to get my hands on the N900 - but I don't mind waiting a bit more for a quality product.

I agree totally with you, but I still wonder why Nokia should be so cryptic about release date.

I wouldn't mind getting the device already, even if i had to update the firmware a few times.

Btw, I did preorder on the 13th of September, hoping that it would come out in the first half of October...

Re: Release Date - 11/14 ?

Yet another topic about a possibly hypothetical release date  ...

Can't we just confine all these posts to the already much abused topics about the release date/shipping date?

Not that I want to look like I'm grumpy or whatever, but these threads are getting more and more frequent and more and more annoying...

Well - not being a Nokia employee - I can only guess that even they don't have the exact date pinned down.

In this day and age of Engadget, Gizmodo, and other blogs -- a mis-step gets blown out of proportion. I think they are playing it safe.

The biggy here is Newegg has the N900 for $560 with free three day delivery. I cancelled my Amazon and ordered from Newegg.

Re: Release Date - 11/14 ?

And that Newegg has a date -- afaik, no other online retailer has posted an availability date yet.

Newegg tends to not post arbitrary estimates for dates. Someone has told their buyer or logisitcs manager that is the date, or they would not be so specific.

and newegg, frankly, rocks!

Re: Release Date - 11/14 ?

It has the cheapest price, yes. But NewEgg's return policy on cell phones is exchange only. At least with Amazon you can get your money back.

EDIT:

You know.... just in case

Wow I wonder if AMAZON will price match that. Pre ordering at amazon
sucks. I wonder why nokia is not telling when they're going to release the device. I'm getting impatient here.

Re: Release Date - 11/14 ?

I may want to cancel my amazon order and go with newegg. Hopefully I don't need to pay tax and their express shipping is cheaper.

Re: Release Date - 11/14 ?

I remember one of the first pictures we ever saw of it on the internet had the date 11/14 on the device, would be weird if that were the actual day

Well, if they release it till mid november, I am fine with that. But another delay would be really bad.

Delays happen. Not too surprising though. Gives them the time they require... and it's only a month.

Gotta give them credit to be upfront about it.

I think the review saying a month later than originally expected is a tad rich, I was under the impression the original date from Nokia was mid to late October anyhow so starting in Nov is a fortnight or longer not a month!

We said at the Maemo Summit that portrait mode for the browser shall be made available as software update by Xmas 2009. I guess we don't want to wait that long for Nokia N900 first shipments? So, portrait browsing in browser will be out later than the first shipments.

Exactly. I prefer completed device/software over full of bugs. Now we're all crying that we have to wait so long but if Nokia sell us an incomplete product we will start the same threads like "Did your N900 ship today" but under title "Did your new software is available today".;)

I personally would rather have the device in my hands right now even if with a few bugs. Wouldn't mind waiting for software updates since I'm already a fan and sold on the N900 regardless.
However for the sake of the N900s reputation and Maemos future, I agree that it is better to release it as more complete, so that the first impact with new maemo users is as smooth as possible.
