Re: Comparative test: Nokia N900 pwns Moto Droid and HTC HD2
I read that article a few days ago. It would have been interesting if it wasn't so fact-bare that I had to go back to the beginning and doublecheck that the writer actually had the devices. It seems like one of those generic articles to pull in ad clicks.

Nice review. N900 wins hands down…

Re: Comparative test: Nokia N900 pwns Moto Droid and HTC HD2
I can't consider that a serious review... Pretty much no arguments at all.
Personally, I'm between the N900 and the Droid. I don't like Motorola, but Android seems really good, and Droid has decent hardware overall. Maemo does look interesting, but I'm affraid about it's future and market, and the N900 has 2 big flaws in my opinion: 1) Huge size. Seems like most top-end Nokia's are way thick. 2) Resistive screen. Yeah, I do understand it allows you to use a stilus, but let's face it, capacitive with multitouch is way more interesting in 95% of the time. Motorola Milestone (GSM Droid) was announced in Brazil (where I live), while N900 is still not being shipped worldwide. That's a big deciding factor in my case. I've played around with the Android SDK and was really impressed. My only dislike was the emulator performance, but everything else is awesome. As I want to do some apps for my phone, this is important too. I'm not very fond of C memory allocation problems ;), but that's probably because I'm a Java developer. If I go the Android way (Moto Milestone) I'll probably be happy with the screen resolution, touch-screen and Android OS, but I'll complain about the keyboard and camera. I'll definitelly miss the Maemo's video players versatility. That's a big con for Android for now. Good luck for us all. |
Re: Comparative test: Nokia N900 pwns Moto Droid and HTC HD2
Its pretty clear the reviewwe doesn't actually have the DROID unit. Notice the usage of the word 'reportedly' twice. Also the reviewer is in UK where the DROID would not function as a phone.
..."As for the last of the smartphones, the Droid, well, it reportedly does not support zoom in and zoom out gestures (i.e. no pinching - you need to double tap to zoom in and zoom out). Though Droid promises the "greatest web experience on the phone" and it has been designed to support Flash 10, the smartphone also reportedly will not come installed with Flash 10."... |
Re: Comparative test: Nokia N900 pwns Moto Droid and HTC HD2
Droid, known as Milestone in Europe, does support multi-touch and pinch/zoom, et al in that region.

Ah, so that review has made it here. I saw a link to elsewhere a few days ago, utter rubbish and the author/s clearly have very few clues. I wouldn't read too much into their opinion, no matter how much you'd like the N900 to come out on top.

What a load of misinformed rubbish.

Pwns? Is it because SSH server ships with an enabled user account with a default password?

Also, I think the Milestone only implements pinch-to-zoom. Are you sure it has other multi-touch features operational? |

Review of the Droid: http://www.mobile-review.com/review/...stone-en.shtml And this is the reviewers opinion: "Those who are looking for a QWERTY-enabled device jam-packed with features and a likable, speedy interface, the Milestone is the way to go. In fact, there aren't many phone like that out there - maybe the Nokia N900, but it's considerably slower, less stable and doesn't offer comparable functionality out of the box. In my opinion, the choice is very clear and Nokia is not what's on my mind. "Milestone" is a very fitting name for this phone - it will make an impact on the market and won't go unnoticed. Those who are into expensive and well-crafted things, should definitely put the Motorola Milestone on their short lists". So now does the Droid win with hands down. I can not explain this , can you ? |

I like mobile-review, but I'm feeling a little skeptical about the review. For example, this is what he says about the keyboard:
