Vote for Bump for N900/Maemo 5

The "Bump" application for the iPhone which allows users to share contact information or other data by "bumping" their phones together is now available for Android as well. Bump Technologies appears to be open to releasing Bump for any device with the necessary hardware sensors.

If you're interested in seeing Bump on the N900/Maemo 5, consider voting for it here:

Can't you just use bluetooth ?

The bump probably uses the accelerometer and bluetooth to send/receive the data. How does it work with lots of phones in the area? And do you have to keep bumping say 10 phones if you want to send the data to all 10 people ?

According to their FAQ, the application uses the accelerometer to trigger the passing of your contact data through the Bump Technologies servers to the other device. So, it's using the data connection, not Bluetooth. And yes, you'll need to keep bumping to pass your info to everyone. In fact, you may need to bump more than once per person.

And Bump Technologies just needs to monitor your location and have access to your full contact information. They're good folks though, so there's no cause for worry. Really.

In the end it's just a workaround for missing Bluetooth functionality. :)

That makes sense... if the iPhone doesn't have the functionality.
Can't see myself using something like this when I can just bluetooth contact cards etc, but hey, if it attracts more users, why restrict choice. This isn't the iPhone after all.

I've voted. I probably wouldn't use this app myself, but (at least here in the UK) Bump is one of the apps that Apple mentions in its TV adverts, so I assume is popular amongst iPhone users, and might attract them to N900.

would it be possible to make a "bluetooth-based"-ump for N900 then?

hmm, would love to try that out!

bumping a device is so macintosh. why not at the same time create an icon of your microsd card which you have to slide in the trashicon to let it pop out.

Sorry for the pun...

Bumping this thread since there's now an open API for the functionality (http://bu.mp/api.html) and LinkedIn has demonstrated this using bluetooth (http://www.mobilebehavior.com/2009/1...tact-exchange/).
