Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900
I currently have an N95 8GB and wanted to see if it was possible to easily transfer all of my numbers across?
I know with all my symbian phones I could use the Phone Switch utility to very quickly and easily sync all of my contacts using bluetooth. Does anyone know if this would work with the N900? Thanks |
Re: Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900
I'm assuming you can push your contacts into Ovi and then back down to the N900 when you get it. Or you could always dump them into GMail and then use the Exchange functionality to push them back to your device.

Re: Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900
It may be possible to transfer via SIM if the phone is smart enough. My sony ericsson uses all sorts of gimmicks for that, like putting /M /H /W suffixes to show it's the same contact, just different numbers. Which will probably not work well when transferred to the n900. But then again, this is nokia-to-nokia

So a month later is it correct to say there is no way to export text messages from Symbian phones to N900?

Re: Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900
I was able to transfer about 3800 contacts from my E90 to the N900 via the transfer app.
It didn't work the first time when I initiated the transfer from the E90, but I think the 2nd time I initiated the transfer from the 900, and it worked beautifully. Of course, you'll have to BT pair the phones. |

Simplest way... (even works between nokia and sony ericssion as my OH descovered!)
Make a backup of contacts onto your mico SD card on your old phone On S60 goto contacts -> options->mark/unmark->mark all then.. options->copy->to memory card. Now.. simply pop the microSD into the N900 and restore from backup. Dont know for sure if the N900 has the restore from SD card option but i'd be very surprised if it didnt! |

Nope. I'm famous.
No, I'm not famous. But I do know a lot of people. |
Re: Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900
I'll try the memory card contacts backup copy suggestion. By that same logic we should be able to copy the same way for text messages right?
Does anyone know if the a bug has been entered in bugzilla for the issue with not being able to copy sms/ emails from S60 devices? |

Re: Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900
1: SIM cards can only take a limited number of phone numbers (not contacts), maybe 100, maybe 200 (depending on SIM card).
2: And those are numbers, not contacts: Each entry is one name (not too long), and one number. If you want a proper transfer of contacts, then dump the contacts list through bluetooth or something. I can send a list from any of the older phones I have, to either my N800 or a laptop with bluetooth, and I end up with a .vcard file with all the contacts. This contacts list can be ingested or massaged back into a new device. If you try to do this via the very limited phone number list on a SIM card you will lose information unless your contacts list is really just a phone number list, and short. |
Re: Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900
The transfer app on the N900 works fine bluetooth. Not quite the huge list above but just under 600 transferred fine and quickly too from an E61

Re: Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900
I have a question, sorry it might be an easy one. I have had my n900 for about 2 weeks which I got from nokia for like 720$. I just received my order from amazon for 150$ less and I am going to return the nokia one. How can I import my contacts from the old n900 to the new one. sorry, I am a linux noob. Thanks.

Re: Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900
My wife has all of her Touch Pro 2 contact and calendar info uploaded into the Windows Mobile Desktop Software that we have on our computer at home. She wants to have that all transferred to her new N900. How do we go about doing that?
