Resize partition

Has someone any disk manager tool for maemo?

1. unmount /home/opt
2. unmount /MyDocs
3. delete /Mydocs partition
4. resize /home/opt (10GB)
5. create new EXT3 partition for /MyDocs

Has someone already tried it?

There is another thread about the partitions of the N900, but why do you want to do this? :-)

Its just a question. I dont need the whole 32GB as a mass strage. It is dangerous, when you attach n900 to the pc via usb. :)

Am searching the whole forum for the answer.

Re: Resize partition

Well there was partitioning software ported over from Linux onto Maemo. Gparted. But that's because we were usually in flash and partitioning for booting onto SD. Not sure if it's different than the previous tablets (though it'd probably be closer to the n810 since the n810 had memory built in as well).

Even if there wasn't anything I believe you could just do it in any linux distro with gparted.

Re: Resize partition

I'd imagine the Linux commands in Xterm would do it, though you'd need to run it from the external card as it'd be impossible to unmount /opt with an app running.

Re: Resize partition

1. edit fstab config file, move /opt to an other partiotion
2. copy the files from /opt to the new /opt
3. reboot the system.
4. remove and resize the partition old /opt
5. fstab config back and copy the files to the resized partition
6. reboot the system.

???

I'm not sure EXT3 is a good idea on flash memory, the journal would reduce the lifespan with little to no gain.

Personally I am considering deleting MyDocs AND Home/opt then just having a large /home partition, so I never need to think about it. Then just have a microSD card mounted as mass storage for those times its handy to slap things on from Windows.

Can you expand the swap partition for more virtual memory?

/home/opt is flash memory...

Wouldn't removing swap mean you'll have problems with entering sleep mode or whatever hibernation-like feature the unit may be using?

Re: Resize partition

use ext2 instead of ext3 (pretty much the same without the darn Journal >¦-)
Method 2 should give you a crash intro... :D
put a swap partition on your MCSD and
Code:

root
swapon /dev/mmcblk1pX
swapoff /dev/mmcblk0p3

where X is most likely 2, but ... the sky is pretty much the limit there

EDIT: the swapon above is only to activate the partition; you will need to create the partition 1st with fdisk (type 82)... obviously, as in Method 2 above you will have to delete all partitions on the MCSD in order to make room for the extra SWAP one

EDIT2: (added code)
with the swapoff mmcblk0p3 you will spare your build-in flash

Well, this is a quite ancient thread...

Swap is essential for a proper function of the device, there is no mentioning on this forum anywhere about removing swap. I highly doubt it would start at all without a swap partition or file.

Do not remove it, but you may think about moving for the resizing of the other partitions, or having your swap on the external card. Here are two threads where swapping methods are discussed http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...highlight=swap
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...hlight=ereswap

amazing how that question could remain three years without a proper answer, huh :D:rolleyes:
