N900 coming to Best Buy @ $599

For those in US interested in buying locally, or seeing the phone in person, I just noticed that the N900 is showing up on BestBuy.com. Backordered, with estimated delivery Nov. 30 to Dec. 14. Also says "available in most stores", so hopefully they'll carry at their retail locations. Priced at $599.

Wow. I'm impressed that they're getting an unlocked phone.

avoid Best Buy like the plague. you WILL NOT be happy with them if you have to return or warranty it.

Great news for N900 fans...even if you don't buy one from Best Buy, the fact that it will be getting mainstream exposure in such a ubiquitous store means ultimately more customers and (hopefully) better ongoing support for the platform as the revenue justifies the resources to keep improving it. Or so goes the theory, anyway :p

They sold the N95 and 97 unlocked too, so makes sense :)

Pretty sure they are 15% restock on unlocked phone returns.

Don't forget sales tax unless you live in the state of Oregon.

JW: Why?

Best Buy would not be my first choice. But I do imagine that returning it to a retail store would be much easier than an online one.

Best Buy got rid of restocking fee recently I had bought a laptop and did not like it so returned on the 9th day I had bought it no restocking fee. When asked was repliued with, " we do not have a restocking fee anymore".

Best Buy - another company I am not to keen on - ever since they had one version of the website for the public and one for inside the store. So you would go in saying - "Hey it says online this is 20% off" and they would check "the website" and show you that it didnt say that.

They were sued successfully for doing that kind of ****.

Best Buy does have some issues, but with no re-stock fee, would be a great and local "safe' choice to try the N900 out for a few days.

I bet they would match Amazon, but tax is still and issue. I will stick to my Dell deal gamble.

On a side note, the Droid has weak sound quality- my G1 blows it away.

I need to return the Droid back to Best Buy- hence the safe choice to try devices out. ;)

They must have gotten better about that. Last week I was in a Best Buy buying a network media player. The price online was $20 less than the price in the store. I told them at the register it should be $129.99 instead of $149.99 or whatever and they asked where I saw that price, I said "on the web site," and the cashier adjusted the price on the spot.

Good experience, actually. Usually I only buy video games there, and then only because Reward Zone is particularly good for video games. ($10 back for every $150 you buy, on top of the regular RZ points)

Their banner for the Nokia Booklet 3G is kind of sexy when you look at the N900 product page :)

This is (or might be) great news. In another thread I complained abou the seemingly total lack of American brick and mortar retailers carrying the N900. However, I am puzzled that searching for N900 still returns a not found message at Best Buy. One hopes this isn't just an orphaned web page recording an old possibility but instead a not fully activated web page recording a future possibility.

Well, for some reason it shows up when you look for "N900" but not when you look for "Nokia N900"

Uhm, it only seems to show up when I search from the initial entry page, not page 2 or 3 I´ve browsed to.

And the specs are wrong.

Re: N900 coming to Best Buy @ $599

I've been checking Best Buy daily, and today is the first time the N900 showed up under their Nokia unlocked phone section. BB sells unlocked phones at retail, and they don't take pre-orders at retail, so I have been hoping to score one at a local store (you can check local store inventory online).

That's how I bought a Canon 5D Mark II DSLR right after launch when pre-orders were still a couple of months from being fulfilled. Hoping to replicate that score cause I have a feeling Nokia will take a while to meet pre-order demand based on very flaky, highly variable responses from NokiaUSA customer service. I do have a preorder in at NokiaUSA & New Egg in case I'm wrong.

it seems that they're "setting things up" as its still not showing up in there store inventory database but a freind of mine will check tomorrow. But as usual, it all comes back to Nokia sending Best Buy there allotment of phones

Me thinks in that case Nokia doesn't understand what a preorder means then. Not to mention that would mean burning bridges with big online stores like Amazon.

Why?! Best Buy is probably the leading unlocked device sellers now that CompUSA shut its brick and mortar stores. Its where you should check FIRST when looking to try a device hands on.

Re: N900 coming to Best Buy @ $599

If I were Nokia I would try to impose terms on my distribution channel around preorders to avoid this kind of customer dissatisfaction driver, but maybe they can't. We'll see if those N900's show up at BB retail before all preorders across the channel are fulfilled. If they do, I'll be trying to grab one!

Maybe before, but with Circuit CIty closed down and Fry's growing, they've stepped up their service big time.

You can get 5% back if you access BB via Discover Card's web site, and order for in store p/u. Every little bit helps when you live in Chicago, where the sales tax is an astounding 10.25%.

Great Odin's Raven!

Also: that BB will have it is very good news, getting undecided phone browsers interested in it is much easier in person.

Lol they need to update their prices on the older Nokia phones.. The N95 NAM (not the 8gb) is still 642.99!!!! More expensive than the N900! lol

I'm glad that my local stores don't have the N900 in stock. I would have no way to resist the urge of canceling my Amazon preorder and paying the $50 extra.

Wow. This is telling of the N900. Best Buy has a very prompt site team that manages the HTML for their store front. They actually manage the web front as its own profit center seperate from their stores.

Their buyer must not have received a very good supply update. They do not just populate a product and then take it down unless they have a reason to do it.

I think there will be many pi55ed off people within the next two months. I think Nokia is not being as straight about the N900 status as they could be.

Nope. The device was pulled. Not getting a good vibe that we will have the N900 before December now.

Re: N900 coming to Best Buy @ $599

I have the N900 ordered in 3 spots, Amazon, Newegg, and in the wee hours of Monday morn I pre-ordered from BestBuy.com. I was called by Discover today asking if I would authorize the BestBuy charge to post to my card...which I of course said "YES!" :P I notice though on the BestBuy site I can't find it via search (never could actually) nor can I locate it by manually going to the unlocked Nokia phones under their mobile category, which is how I found it originally, after reading about it being available here.

It's still listed as backordered for me, but according to Discover they charged me. I'll keep any eye on my account to see when the charge actually posts (right now I just see a deficit from my card limit and currently available which is the correct amount for the N900).

Has this happened to anyone else that has ordered from BB? Hoping this wasn't a fluke, but we'll see.

Re: N900 coming to Best Buy @ $599

Ahh well, I need to not get myself too excited lol. I spoke with Best Buy and they don't yet have the phone in stock nor a date of when it maybe available. They simply authorized my card today. Back to the waiting game, but hopefully not for much longer.

I checked today and didn't see any distribution hubs that have it in my territory, so we don't have it yet.

Ouch! AND State income taxes on top of that!!
For a contrast, I live in Arlington, in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex (The center of the US telecommunications industry :D). Our local sales tax is 8%, and everyone is mad that it's so high. It was recently increased to help pay for the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, right after the tax rate was lowered after the Rangers baseball field was paid off. Oh yeah, we don't have State income taxes, either.

Now you know why everyone in the MidWest and coasts are running to the South.

Jesus Christ, and I thought North Carolina's sales tax of 8-9% was high (it's gotten to the point now when I'm on a family vacation there I don't buy stuff there cause I know it'll be cheaper if I buy it back in MD unless it's a really good sale that won't last or doesn't exist back in MD).

MD went from 5% to 6% last year. Still getting use to it even though it's been in place for about a year now.

Does MD have a State Income Tax? I won't live in a state that does. Worked in the Mississippi River Delta for a year doing seismic work, and the State Income Taxes raped me. Texas is paradise to me.
