Connecting bluetooth keyboard to the N900

Hello everyone, new to the forums.

I have been using Palm PDA's for many years, and I'm now switching to the N900. I have been using the Palm Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard (3245WW), which in my opinion is one of the best external Bluetooth keyboards I've found.

I’m now wondering, would it be possible to connect it to the N900? If it is, how much work would it require? From what I've read it seems like atleast the N800 supports pretty much all HID compatible keyboards out of the box, is this perhaps also the case with the N900?

I found a plug-in similar to what I would need for the Nokia 770.

http://770.fs-security.com/maemo-bt-plugin/

Would it be possible to install this one on the N900 just as is, or would it require porting?

Thank you in advance!

I opened a project at garage.maemo in order to write a enabler for the HID keyboards, not need to mess with the system files :P .

By my tests everything works fine, as long the keyboard is supported under Linux[1], it will also works in the N900.

[1] Note some keyboard manufactures doesn't respect the BT HID standard, so their keyboards normally doesn't work out of the box in Linux, that's happen a lot with the fruit company keyboards for e.g ;).

What exactly do you refer to here, please?
Impossible to answer without knowing what you ask for...

Sorry, I was refering to VDVsx post regarding the enabler for HID keyboards. I don't have much experience of Linux, so I would like to restrain from messing around with system files as for now as I'm not sure I can fix it if I mess something up

Doesn't the Blue Maemo app add this functionality, or is it not for the N900?

As far as I've understood, Blue Maemo does more of the opposite, it makes the tablet (n900 etc.) work as a keyboard and mouse for the computer.

The enabling part is finished[1]. I didn't packaged the app yet, because it is almost useless since you can use only letters in the majority of the BT keyboards. I contacted the responsible for that area in order to know more about the reasons for the removal of the generic keyboards, but didn't get any reply so far :(. I can try to dig more about this but can be a great waste of time if they removed it for a reason :(

Thank you, let's hope they'll answer soon. I can't really see why they wouldn't allow anything but letters, let's hope it's just a bug.

I got a reply today, the responsible was in vacations.
For the record here is the related bug report: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6685

Hi everyone -

I hope the BT keyboard issue will gain traction. It's practically a deal-breaker for me if it won't work. I use an Apple BT keyboard on an e61 and it's godlike, even with an AZERTY French layout. There is another thread on this topic in the forum: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...tooth+keyboard

I would help if I could, but what can I do but wait?
