4OD on Youtube

http://www.youtube.com/4oD

4OD on youtube is now live. Can someone with a N900 test it out and see if it works as well as normal youtube vids in fullscreen mode?

This'll keep me going until iPlayer works better (or at all) on the N900!

Cheers.

Even the earlier videos of the N900 in action showed it playing SD videos! Where have you been! lol.

Hm, some people have shoddy sarcarsm detectors. Next time i'll add huge /s tags.

I mean, why is this thread even here? Thinks about it. If the N900 Obviously can play youtube flash videos including full screen, what makes you think these 4OD youtube videos will be any different than all the other hundred thousand videos on youtube?

A simple "n900 youtube full screen" search nets you at least 3 thread talking about full screen flash. This could have been asked in those threads. Even better, the question did not even need to be asked as simple deduction skills will lead you to knowing that 4OD videos will play fine just as others.

For all I know the 4OD videos could be a higher bit rate than standard Youtube videos, thats why.

Tried it quickly and no joy. Page opens up nicely but the player part just doesn't work. (old proto and fw mind you...)

Some people shouldnt respond to a genuine request for info with "sarcasm". I dont think anyone could have spotted you were being sarcastic there to be fair.

So, Will Flash 10 support come to N900 soon?

Hi guys with regards to MSN stuff. It uses Silverlight from what I know... In Linux there is a plugin for firefox called moonlight. I could be wrong but maybe some one can port it over to N900.

Re: 4OD on Youtube

Just thought I's post an update here to say that my experience with www.youtube.com/4od is that it doesn't play very smoothly at all and is as unwatchable as iPlayer.

The rest of youtube, as shown before, works fine. Even the advert at the start of the 4OD content (tried a couple of peep show eps) played fine, the audio plays fine too but the video plays at about 2fps!!

Guessing that they use a higher bit rate than standard youtube vids.

Slightly, off-topic, but when we get flash 10.1 (that I am to understand brings hardware acceleration to flash meaning the GPU can be used) how much difference will it actually make? Are we taking, "Wow, this works amazingly better!" or, "OK, I'm getting another 3-5% boost in performance."?

The videos on www.youtube.com/4od are definitely different from normal youtube videos, as they cannot be downloaded using keepvid.com or youddl.com for example.

Indeed, which I can understand. Shame there's not some way to expose the 4OD videos like the normal streams (such as those used in zoutube) whilst keeping them "secure".

Ah well, hopefully they'll be more watchable once we get flash 10.1. Just hope it makes as much difference and most people seem to think it will.

From what I recall Moonlight requires use of the Mono framework to run so that would need to be ported first. I believe that at least a good portion of that was ported to Diablo so hopfuelly it shouldn't be too hard to upgrade that to Maemo 5.

Moonlight - Mono
