After a few unexpected delays, we have finally set a time and date for the DFW Nokia N900 Meetup! If you’ve never been to a meetup, it’s just a gathering of sorts of nerds like us, talking about and obsessing over our favorite gadgets. This meetup will be focused around the Nokia N900, and we’ll have at least 2 of them on hand, perhaps more (still working on that). It’s free to attend, but I do need to get a count of how many to expect, so an RSVP is required.

The DFW Nokia N900 Meetup will take place on Wednesday, November 25, at 630pm, and go until 830pm (though you’re welcome to stay later). I realize this is Thanksgiving Eve, but it was the only time that worked, so hopefully you can make it. We’ll be gathering at Champps in Las Colinas, located at 855 West John W. Carpenter Freeway, Irving, TX 75039. A big thanks goes out to Nokia WOM World, who is helping out by providing appetizers and munchies for us. Drinks are on you.

If you’re in the area, please come by to check out the Nokia N900. We’ll have access to an HDTV that we can test the TV-out functionality on, and there should be WiFi in the restaurant, as well.

Ouch, being on a weekday, I'm not sure if I'd make it before you even finished for the day with having to drive up from Austin.

Yeah, I realize the weekday is a bit off, though the next day is Thanksgiving, and most businesses will be closed, so it's *kinda* like a weekend. ;)

Unfortunately not for my work, we only get Thursday and Friday off. I do have a couple use-or-lose vacation days that I'm thinking of using one for this.

If you guys can't make it, don't feel bad - we may try to get something together again after the holidays, maybe on a weekend or something. But definitely try to make this one. :)

I'd love to, but since I'm so broke and had to sell my beloved Audi, and live in transportationless Arlington, I'm stuck like Chuck. Anyone passing through Arlington willing to give an impoverished techie a ride? I'm dying to go. Maemo plus free appetizers could really cheer me up...

We used Yahoo's map directions from the Meetup page, and they were horrible. I didn't make it because I couldn't find it. Got home, used Google Maps and Ovi Maps and got much better directions. Hate I missed it. Wasted lots of gas looking for John Carpenter Freeway...

Got lost using sucky directions from the meetup site since I don't have a working mobile atm. Never found the place. Google Maps directions were flawless, but well after the fact. I really need a mobile. I forgot what its like to not have a GPS in my pocket. Who gets lost in this day and age??

I wish mapping software would use generic highway names. If you aren't from Irving, how do you know John Carpenter is 114?? Or Tom Landry is I-30 in Arlington? The maps on the RSVP page gave impossible directions, since you can't turn right onto W John Carpenter without first exiting Valley View. Might try linking to a better map than trusting Yahoo next time.

I'm going to print the impossible route they gave me on MF. I would've had to jump a bridge to follow their directions.

Sorry man, we wondered where you were. We did talk about doing another meetup soon, so don't stress about it too much. Perhaps do one in January after the holidays.

Unless I get my N900 tomorrow, I won't be travelling much. Might get lost again... LOL.

Funny you mention St. Paul, since Minneapolis/St. Paul is like a miniature version of DFW. DFW is like Twin City Metro II, only much bigger and not nearly as cold. (I've never been anywhere colder where people were expected to live)

I ended up getting into town very late and I also had problems with my directions. I don't think I would have made it at all if it wasn't for my n95 and google maps. The address listed doesn't work right for some reason. It places the marker way further down the highway when it should be further north right next to MacArthur.

not the problem. the meeting site you used used Yahoo Maps for directions. Google or Ovi were more reliable. Its my fault for pawning my last device, assuming I'd have my N900 by then. Got one now, and my personal should come in the next couple days.
