Has work on Maemo Mapper stopped?

With the latest version of Maemo Mapper I'm unable to use the tap & hold function...just centers my map. I tried down-revving to an old version where it once worked, but that didn't help. I'm guessing there is a library file that has changed which is causing the problem.

Anyway, doesn't seem like Maemo Mapper is being working on anymore as I was hoping that this problem would eventually get fixed. Before everyone jumps in saying it works for them, it doesn't appear to be a problem for everyone, but while doing a forum search it also appears I'm not alone with this problem.

Was wondering if that was the case or not in terms of Maemo Mapper no longer being updated?

I'd love to get the tap & hold function back!

I have "tap and hold" on version 2.6.2, "gnuite" on this forum is the developer.

I can confirm that tap and hold stopped working for me as well. I'm on 2.6.2 now (also tried downgrading etc. - didn't help). The version I'm now using I compiled from sources, it's still got the same problem. NB: I'm using OS2007 on N800 but from the reports this may not matter.

Everything else is working just nicely (I built from source so that I could fix the problem with BT+GPS w/N800+OS2007).

I am running latest Diablo and have "tap and hold" on version 2.6.2

Maybe the development efforts have been put into the Fremantle version:

Good! More time to coding, less to hanging around here.

...Coding what, is the question. He's working in a place called Mountain View, California. Anyone know what corporation has its HQ there? Yeah. That one.

Nope he works for Google now. You didn't get a weird vibe when you saw Google Maps Navigation?

Absolute N900 showstopper for me. Must have MM.

Yeah, that was my point...

I intentionally stopped upgrading as of 2.5.3, which has worked great. Click and hold, for example, does what it should. You don't get the CB radio thing or whatever it was, and you aren't using the sqlite database. But I don't miss those and I've had zero problems. i believe the .deb is still available in the "garage."

Re: Has work on Maemo Mapper stopped?

maemo-mapper is open source and it seems that other developers are developing towards fremantle version:

"Tap and hold" works for me as well with 2.6.2...
However, with my N810 if I minimize M/M, after about 2 minutes the desktop crashes (freeze) requiring a re-boot.
It works fine in both full and short screens though. It only causes the crash when running completely in the background.

...anybody else?

Re: Has work on Maemo Mapper stopped?

Hi all!
I'm developing the fremantle port of MM. I'll try to address a few of the questions I saw in this thread:

1) Maemo Mapper development has not stopped. :-)

2) Indeed I do not follow talk.maemo.org regularly (shame on me, I admit!), I just don't have enough time.

3) The UI in Maemo Mapper for the N900 is going to be almost completely different. Tap & hold action will simply disappear, replaced by some other interaction modes.

4) I'm not actively developing MM for diablo, because the two platforms are rather different when it comes to UI and location framework; but indeed, if while developing the fremantle branch I'll find some issues that can easily be fixed in diablo just by backporting the code, I'll do that.

5) You guys rock, I'll do my best so that you won't have to wait too long before having at least some work-in-progress version of MM in your devices. :-)

Ciao,
Alberto

I'm happy for gnuite !
If by working on MM he got the attention of the big G : good for him ! he deserves it !
I hope he will port Google Nav to Maemo ;)
(or better may be the Dalvik VM)
Hope to see you here again gnuite !

My congratulations to John "gnuite" Costigan on his new position at Google. It's great to see someone that has given so much to our community be rewarded for his achievements with a job a Google -- he earned it. I for one will continue to use and enjoy Maemo Mapper on my N810.

I'm still using it on my 770...great app, but really miss the tap & hold feature :). Maybe I'll try the 2.5.3 version and see if that works.
